I graduated in 1980. I was my class secretary. Does you husband remember Mr. Saterlie (I know I spelled this wrong) We used to say that he came with the school. My brother graduated in 1972. My maiden name was Beach.
Dh isn't home right now, but I will ask him. Dh's older brother graduated in 1973 and his younger brother in 1979. Rick, Roger, and Ross Beatty.

As for snowcones in NC, you should try Pelican's on HWY 401, between Garner and Fuquay. YUM,YUM!! :tongue_smilie:
We live on the opposite side of Raleigh, so Garner and Fuquay are a hike for us. But if we happen to be down that way in the summer, I will keep Pelican's in mind! Thanks.

I grew up in Columbia, and I remember playing Parkville in out of region games. It is so fun to "talk" to people from Maryland.
My Dad used to work for a landscaping company based in Woodbine, and they did the landscaping around the Columbia mall. We lived in Garrett County (175 miles west of Baltimore), so he and a couple other guys would drive down to Frederick on Sunday night and stay in a hotel all week, then drive home on Friday after work for the weekend. He did that for 18 years, until he could get a decent job close to home. We lived on a farm, so my mom and us kids had to do all the barnwork when he was away. :glare:

We used to duel eggs. Both of my grandparents were of German heritage. Yes, I know where Carney is. I grew up in Phoenix, near Loch Raven Reservoir. Do you know where that is?

Funny story about the LR Reservoir. When my oldest dd was 4, we were driving around the Reservoir and we came to the dam. DD says, "Look at the waterfall!" Dh says, "That's a dam." There was a moment of silence, then, "What's the dam waterfall for?"

and we LOVED Mi-T-Fine Snowballs! I know exactly where that is! AND, my mother grew up in Highlandtown, too! I remember growing up, thinking it was "Hollandtown" b/c of the way she prnounced it! Did you go to Parkville High? I went to Overlea. Back then OHS wasn't the "drug den" it is now. Very sad. Small world, huh?
My dh graduated from Parkville High in 1975. When did you graduate? I wonder if you crossed paths with dh or his siblings.

Karen,
I will miss you! Many of your posts have been helpful to me.
Best wishes,

Do you know where Careny is? I could walk to the Mighty Fine Snowball stand on Joppa Road from my house.
Yep. I lived in Parkville and Timonium. Dh grew up in Parkville. Do you know where Maria's on Taylor Ave is? They have the world's best cheese steak subs and french fries! I miss snowball stands - I've never seen one in NC. :chillpill:

My dh grew up in Baltimore County next door to his German grandmother, and I have never heard him mention egg dueling. I lived in Baltimore County for 11 years, too, and I've never heard of it.

We just bought a Nissan Quest from Carmax in January. Very positive. They fixed the couple of things we wanted taken care of before we picked it up, plus we took it back within the 30 warranty period because one of the tires had a slow leak. We've also bought a Saturn in the past. Saturn and Carmax are both very low-pressure, low-stress dealers.
Nan, is a trade-in fee a Canadian thing or a Carmax thing? I've never been charged a trade-in fee, and I've never seen a trade-in fee on any invoices I've seen for clients in the 20 years I've been an accountant.

For those who don't believe in abortion, would you put this on your car?
No, I would not.

My Dad had an 8th grade education and my mom graduated from high school. I have a BS in Accounting from U of MD. My brother didn't go to college, 3 of my sisters went to a hospital school of nursing (but one of them finished her BS later), and my youngest sister has 2 Bachelors degrees, one in public health administration and one in education.
ETA: My Dad was born in 1918 in a rural area where an 8th grade education was pretty common, esp for boys. He was a smart guy, though, esp in math. My mom was always impressed with how he could keep track of how much they were spending while shopping. When the cashier would add up their purchases, my Dad's estimate was always very close. He was a reader, and I can still picture him sitting in his recliner with his reading glasses on and a book in his hands. Two of my favorite pictures are one of my Dad reading to my oldest daughter when she was 2, and another of my daughter at age 4 reading to my Dad when Alzheimer's had stolen his mind and he was no longer able to read even the simplest books.
On my dh's side, his parents did not go to college, but dh's paternal grandmother had at least a BS and maybe an MA degree. She taught in one-room schoolhouses when she wasn't marching for women's suffrage or prohibition. She was a pioneer in special education. Dh's aunt also has at least a Bachelor if not a Masters degree in Education. Dh went to college for one semester when he was young, then went back when he was about 35. It's taking forever, but he has a BA degree and is 2/3 of the way through an MDiv degree. None of his siblings went to college. One of his cousins did go to college and she also played cello for the St Louis symphony. Dh's other cousin, who is dh's age, just finished a degree, I think an Associates. I think dh's grandmother would be disappointed that all of her grandchildren didn't value education and finish college, since it was very important to her.

But I'm not sure that this isn't confusing what we know as Baptist today with the anabaptists... I'm not sure what the connection between the two are, if there is one.
The Anabaptists primarily became the Amish and Mennonite denominations.
-
My dh had a class in seminary on the history of the Baptists. The book he recommends is called The Baptist Heritage: Four Centuries of Baptist Witness by Leon H. McBeth. It is a seminary text so it is quite comprehensive, but he says it is excellent.
HTH
I think that's the same book my dh used for his seminary Baptist History class. He is also at a So Bapt seminary. His class did not teach that the denomination itself goes back to the time of Jesus. But I think it taught that the belief system and theology does (kind of funny considering the varying theology among So Bapts). Also, very few of the modern Baptist denominations grew directly out of the Anabapist movement, but most Baptists do identify very closely with the Anabaptists.

As a CPA, I think Quickbooks is great for small businesses. There are several price levels, depending on what kind of features you want. If you have questions about how to use it, find a CPA firm or independent QB consultant to give you some training before you start. It will make a world of difference in your comfort level and accounting fees.

The doctors are concerned because Carrie is not coming out of her coma as expected. If there is no improvement by 2 am Wednesday morning, they will do another CT scan to look for and assess brain damage.
She is breathing on her own, but they have not removed the vent yet. When they removed the tubes from her head yesterday and stapled the cuts shut, tears fell from her eyes. The drs think she felt the sting of the staples going in. So there are some hopeful signs. Please continue to pray for her complete recovery. Thanks!

So what can you clean it with?
Nothing abrasive.
-
We did, and it looked great. You just have to be really careful with what you put in the tub and what you clean it with.

There are tons at google books that you can download free. Just go to google books and use reader or primer as your search term.

I went to HEAV in Richmond one year because it's not as big as NC's convention and I really don't like big crowds. I'm not sure how the cost compares, though.
Do you know about the Dayspring used curriculum sale at Colonial Baptist on April 26? I always get some great bargains there.

My VSL loves Rod & Staff grammar and she loves diagramming sentences. If I tell her to do only so many, she'll ask if she can do more.

My Dad was full-blooded German. Even though he was born in America and his ancestors were here since the 1860's, he spoke German before English. My mother is about half or more German, but also Irish, Scottish and English.

Dh says he does remember Mr. Saterlie, but he can't remember what he looked like. Was he a math or science teacher? Dh is pulling out his yearbook to look him up. Do you remember an English teacher named Mr. English?
