  1. 9:30pm update....Our extended family just left.  The party was great, but I am exhausted. As soon as they were down the driveway, I was upstairs putting on pajamas.  I am now settled on the couch and do not plan on moving until I'm ready to go upstairs to bed.

    SLEEP

  2. I am up after 9 hours of sleep trying to get rid of a hideous migraine that came on last night after dinner. I know the cause is stress and lack of sleep.  The headache is gone this morning, but I feel like I've been hit by a truck.  As much as I want to take it easy today, I have a lot of things that I simply have to get done (I'm hosting a family birthday party for my dad this evening and the house HAS to be clean, presents wrapped, food made). I think I'm going to put the schoolwork on hold for today and just stick with the things that must be done.  I cannot have a "migraine relapse" or a rebound headache...there simply isn't time in my day for that.

  4. I've worked nights for almost 4 years now (usually only a few nights per week, but I also do childcare during the day, so I don't have the ability to sleep in past 7am.  Honestly, you're going to have to make some compromises.  If you work till midnight, you need to be in bed by 1am.  Sleep till 8.  That's 7 hours of sleep.  Get up, get dinner ready in the crockpot. Set on low and it will be ready for 5:30 dinner.  Wake your children up ....don't wait for them to get up on their own.  Start school by 9, 9:30 at the latest.  That would give you an adequate amount of time for schoolwork. and hopefully allow you to get your children back on track, academically.  That would still give you a little free time in the afternoon to either take a quick rest or get housework done before dinner & work.  You need to communicate your needs to your dh.  If he wants you to continue working, then he's going to have to be on board with helping--especially getting the kids to bed at a decent hour.

  5. Happy Thursday! My morning started off well--checked for October SAT scores (available online now) and found out that dd16 raised her scores by 130 points and exceeded the goal that we had initially set! I'm so proud of her! I'm not sure if we'll even make her take it again or not.  She will have to take the ACT again since that meets our state's testing requirements for annual homeschool testing.

  11. Thanks, everyone.  I'm feeling a bit better in some respects.  I'm going to work hard at not overtiring myself today.  I'm at that crossroads where I could start to get much better or could relapse into something like bronchitis, which is not on my to-do list!  That's life experience for you - you know all the ways things can go south. . .

    (((hugs)))

Try to take it easy, Jean, so that you can get through this "crossroads" and on the road to recovery!

  12. 12:30pm update:

Almost time to take a break for lunch....we've had a fairly productive morning.  It's difficult to find a balance between getting housework done and plodding through our planned schoolwork.  Adding a daycare child into the mix only makes that more difficult! I'm praying that she takes a nap this afternoon so I can do schoolwork with my 6 year old (who has been playing with daycare child most of the morning).

  16. Oh my! I think you need some more smileys, like: :svengo: :w00t:   :leaving: .

Tress, don't worry, we do it with lots of help from other members of our church.  We've helped with it for about 8-10 years, but this is our first time being in charge of all the food. (Another member is in charge of the delivery routes and drivers). It will make for a very busy November for us!

  17. Wow, it's Monday already??!? I'm not ready!

Ok, whine over....putting on my big girl panties and tackling the week ahead!   :smash:

We're off to a bit of a slow start, but here's what is ahead...

  18. So - what does your family eat when the mom is sick?

Sick? We're allowed to get sick and not cook?  Unless I'm hospitalized, life usually has to go on.

And how do you entertain yourself when you're sick? See above

What day is your garbage pick up day? We don't have trash pick-up. We live in a rural area, so we would have to pay for trash service through a private company. We opt to make a dump run once a week.

I hope you feel better, Jean!

  19. 11:30pm update:

Had planned to stay up and wait for dh and dd9 to get home from their church activity, but I'm too tired! Calling it a night.,.,.,

    • exercise at Y
    • school (math/English)
    • take kids to Chick-fil-a for lunch

    • empty/reload dishwasher
    • vacuum upstairs (including stairs)

    • dd9 has a church activity tonight (pizza, corn maze, midnight bowling, and then going for ice cream. Dh is chaperoning.  They are not staying for the overnight "lock-in" portion because dd has her last soccer game in the morning).
    • While they are gone, I need to find something "fun" to do with the other kids (according to dd6, who is very jealous that she can't go on the church event (too young).
    • mop kitchen & bathroom floors
    • pack soccer bags for Saturday morning (two games for ds and 1 game for dd9)
