  1. Cynthia, Thank you so much for your response. I already have the SL Science for Core 4 which covers a great deal of Physical Science, elec/magnetism, light/sound, which are also covered in EE. Do you remember what the study of elec/mag & sound/light covered in EE? What were the experiments like? Thanks for letting me pick your brain!...Mindy
  2. Have you looked at All About Spelling? It's taken from SWR. I've used SWR with all 5 of my children. Actually, with the older ones, I used Romalda Spaulding's Writing Road to Reading which was waaay too complicated. SWR came from this and was made simpler. Anyway, I've found the same problems with my 11yo son that you've described in your post. I think that all of my children made many of the same careless errors at this age. The older ones outgrew it, and hopefully he will to. Back to All About Spelling, (sorry ;-).....there are manipulatives, ie. phonogram tiles, to use on a magnetic board. It sounded really young for me to use with him, but it is helping. Check out the site http://www.allaboutspelling.com They will explain it much better than I can as I am short on time. Hope this helps.....Mindy
  3. It would be such a help if someone has knowledge/opinions on comparing both programs. Thanks so much....Mindy
  4. I like the idea of dictation of sentences and phrases instead of a list of words. This program sounds like a common sense approach. I'm off to do my search of the forums to find the posts on AAS. Thanks for your response.
  5. I'm a natural speller as well. It must be so frustrating for my kids to be taught spelling by me. My Stephen sounds like your Becca. He wants to know why.
  6. Thanks! I'm off to do a search now, but I'll probably be back with a ton of questions....Mindy
  7. I can just about see the Gulf, well almost. Houma to be exact.
  8. Bless you, Sweetie. I'm praying for you and yours....Mindy
  9. Just heard about this new program. All I know is that it uses the same ideas from Spell to Read & Write, which uses ideas from Romalda Spaulding's Writing Road to Reading. Anyone?? Thanks in advance....Mindy
  10. but I just had to comment on Potters School and how much we LOVED our experience with them. My older boys took science and English classes and they were superb!! My boys really, really enjoyed them. My sister, who was a public highschool English teacher for 25 years, sat in on their classes from time to time and thoroughly enjoyed them. She said that these were quite equal to the AP courses she taught in her public highschool. I can barely wait until my 5th grader is old enough to take a couple of classes. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be pleased....Mindy
