  1. Ready? I'm coming out on the ice with you... The evolutionary theory is that there is a common ancestor and humans and apes are branches from that ancestor. Fossil evidence of that ancestor does not exist. Fossil evidence of the intermediary steps between that ancestor and humans does not exist. Fossil evidence of any intermediary step in determining the direction a speciation took (macroevolution) does not exist. That's why it's a theory. Mutations have consistently been shown to decrease/diminish the information in the genetic code, not increase it. So, if you call mutations "evolving", then yes, we are evolving, but not into anything more complex than we already are. We're actually disintegrating which follows the theory of entropy. Just like the fish. It can be argued that the fish which had eyes which mutated to be smaller, could only survive in the cave, so that's where they thrived and are found. That mutation decreased the genetic code... it did not enhance it. Brrrrr.... it's cold in this water!
  2. I'm a Christian, and I've only recently started implementing the Christian publishers into my curriculum, because IMO they've just now started reaching the academic standard I want for my kids. So, to say that secular publishers are substandard is short-sighted. Academically speaking, secular books used to be far superior, albeit teaching evolution and such. My curriculum now is a mix. I don't need my Math and Phonics books to teach a Biblical worldview. History and Science? Yes... To the OP, you've gotten some good suggestions on quality secular materials. Good luck in your transition! Melissa
  3. Thanks for asking this question! Another silly mom here, wondering the same thing! Bummer about Rainbow... me too! Melissa
  4. Holy Mackeral Andy! I'd say yes.... why do you want to do both programs? Both of those programs are time intensive, especially for a student who isn't a whiz at math. For one who is, it might be possible, but I'd venture a guess that your whiz kid would burn out pretty quickly with all the drill and repetition. What's your dilemma about each?
