  1. We are using TT3 and TT5 and both boys enjoy it. We stopped when Grandma came to visit and need to get back to it;)

    My only problem is with Ethan, he keeps playing around with the little animation stuff and I have to remind him to LISTEN to his lesson but other than that we like it :thumbup:.

    I especially love that I don't have to grade the lessons. I can go into my teacher account, check to see what he missed and if too many were have him do those problems again. I can also print out his grades.

    My oldest son Josh tried this two years ago and couldn't stand it because the math problems {the numbers} didn't sit on the yellow notebook paper and that really bothered him :blink: and the animation was too much (I think he has some sensory issues though). Over the summer we tried it again but only used the workbook and that was much more quiet and uncluttered for him.

  2. Two weeks and loving:

    PAL/Writing and Reading {actually haven't started the reading because I am waiting for the printed book but have started some of the reading games. The writing portion is a hit}

    WinterPromise LA-6

    WinterPromise LA-4 {only using the grammar portion on this one}

    WinterPromise HIH {just started but am liking it already. Won't be making the big hideaways though as we have a small house.}

    Delightful Reading {I have been using this for 4 weeks and will use it for 4 more weeks and then start WinterPromise LA-1. He has had lots of phonics but just needs a boost}

    Writing with Ease 1, 2 and 3 {using 1 with Ethan, 2 with Caleb and Brent and 3 with Josh and Annette. Lance will start WWE1 in a few weeks}

    Math-U-See Gamma, Delta and Epsilon {why did I ever switch}

    TT3

    TT5

    Systematics Math {this is the first math program that Joshua likes. It's no frills or distractions}

    Math Lessons for a Living Education {Lance, loves this}

    Analytical Grammar with the dvds

    Latin Primer A {using this with my four older dc and they all love it!}

    I am happy to report that our first two weeks of school has been great!!!! To think I was scared to start school this year.

  3. Thanks so much. Your reply was very helpful. I am trying to decide if I want the e-book download or the regular book. Which do you prefer?

    I actually purchased both :tongue_smilie:because I like the ease of printing out a clean page but prefer the printed book to carry around, flip through and see where things are going.

    I just think of it as a TM {hard copy} and student book {download copy} ;).

  4. English, Reading and Vocabulary I would do three or four times a week. Can art be a Friday thing?

    History and Science what we are doing is switching off. Day 1 History, Day 2 Science, Day 3 History and so forth. This way I'm not stressting out.

    I would write down which subjects are most important and make sure those are the ones getting done on a regular basis. Not meaning every, single day but try to make them priority for every day {I leave room on Friday for make-up day}.

    For the younger grades 4th and under I'm pretty relaxed with science and history. My kiddos listened to lots of audio books and checked out books at the library but we didn't follow a history cycle.

    In the early years history and science are so fun that they are almost not a school subject. If I read history or science on Sat. the kids don't mind. Maybe, you can read some of the history lessons over the weekend and do more of the map work M-F.

    If one day your are tired or things need to change it's okay to put the books away and go to the park. Spelling will still be there when you get back. Maybe just taking a break will refresh the children. Some times I find it nice to do a subject in the evening with one of the kids. It's quiet and we sit together and get it done. Just the child and me having school time:001_huh:

    I also set the timer for 30 minutes. When it goes off we put the subject that was being worked on away and pick up where we left off the next day.

    I'm just throwing some ideas out there:001_smile:.

  5. My dd sorta likes them. She has been reading them for over a year (started in 5th grade) she has mentioned that some of them are scary. I haven't read them since I was young and don't remember. She said the Hardy Boys are scary too.

    My oldest son (8th grade) reads both Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys.

  6. I looked at the samples and thought the schedule was nice. I am the kind of person who needs things scheduled out, otherwise they don't always get done;). I like the duck theme of the samples for the month of April. They are cute. The schedule is clean and uncluttered, another plus for me.

    The sample I was sent looked to be for Pre-k to K students. It had learning letters but also copywork. Edited to add:Could be used for 1st grade too. Looks like they suggest MUS and if you were teaching a first grader you would omit the letter sounds and do more of the copywork, grammar and vocabulary. It wold just be a good idea if they put the age/grade levels on the website. There is also writing included (about a pragraph). {I haven't looked through the whole sample yet}

    I do agree that the website could use a little more information. I didn't see what ages this is for. It would be nice if the samples were available on the website.

    Looks fun to me!

  7. I do the research, planning and teaching. Dh is very supportive. He works 45+ hours and handles our apartments which can be another part time job at times. He does most of the shopping for clothes and food too. He takes my packages to the post office:001_smile: and will help around the house when he can.

    So, no, he doesn't help with the teaching and I'm fine with that:)

    The only schooling he does is when the children need extra help in a subject.

  8. I'm excited to start Prepared Dictation with my kiddos. Not sure if we will use Spelling Wisdom or Simply Spelling but leaning toward Simply Spelling because it gives more direction.

    Another thing I'm excited about is using WinterPromise Hideaways in History. Not exactly sure if I can fit it in but I'm excited anyway ;) and using two of WP's Language Arts programs (1st and 6th).

  9. Agreeing with the other posters with regards to grammar and math. I usually do more of an informal history and science study at this age. Maybe purchase the audio books for SOTW. This is what I did. My kiddos love listening to them. At one time Brent, listened to them daily for months :001_smile:. Science is a bit harder to find on audio. I used the Jonthan Park cds and I found a few at Amazon. I hear Apologia will be adding audio soon for the elementry books (can't wait):thumbup:. I have tons of science books on our shelf too with lots of pictures.

  10. My 6th grade dd will use:

    History:America the Beautiful-will outline

    Science-Apologia Zoology 1-will outline at least once a week (hopefully)

    Grammar-1 semester of AG the rest of the year WP LA-6 this includes writing, spelling, grammar, literature etc.

    Copywork: Copywork for Girls and Verses from Queen Homeschool

    Math: MUS Epsilon and hopefully start Zeta

    Latin-Latin Primer

  11. Sure.............

    History-America the Beautiful from Notgrass

    Science-Apologia Flying Creatures of the 5th Day

    Grammar-Shurley Grammar and a semester of Jr. Analytical Grammar via dvds

    Penmanship-Classically Cursive

    Math-TT4

    Writing-Easy Classical Writing Early History to Modern Times.

    Latin-Latin Primer A

    Spelling-Spelling Workout or Apples and Pears (my dd calls it Apple and Peaches:D)

    Copywork-Copywork for Boys, some included in science using Apologia Notebook.

    Bible-Tracking Your Walk and AWANA

    Extras if we have time WWE finish 2 and start 3. I would also like to add twice a week narrations.

    I think that's everything!

    Thanks for asking :001_smile:

  12. :iagree:

    Yep, I don't see the point without the cd's. Kind of like Math u see without the dvds.;)

    I would like to point out that TT has all the instructions in the workbook as well. Math-U-See does not (if I'm remembering correctly).

    One can use TT without the cd. Of course you don't get the benefit of the instant grading and all but it's not as if there is any math instruction missing.
