I just purchased it last night and I think it is a lot of material for the price! I know some you can find for free but it is worth it to me to have it layed out nicely to print off. All of the money is also going to help their ministry so even if I received nothing it was a good use of the $27.
If you want to know specifics about something just shoot me an email.:)
How are the maps? I'm looking for some good maps to go with WP HIH.
Thanks,

I hope to use QAW next year with my boys, so I haven't used it. I do like WP though. I have used three of their programs in the past. This year a few of their LAs. Like another poster said, I have had everything come in a timely manner but other times I had to call to get my last few books. This year I only purchased what I couldn't find elswhere. I normally like to order the whole package but I wasn't sure if I'd have to wait or not.
With all that said, this year I am usig HIH with my four younger children and we are enjoying it.
With people saying it's disjointed, I have heard the samething said about MFW, SL etc. :tongue_smilie:. This kind of thing doesn't bother me. I'm just happy that someone else put it all together (found the books and scheduled them) for me.
I think almost every homeschooling mom tweaks things to fit their family (myself included) ;).

With my younger students I am going to use bible crafts books like Cut & Tell, Bible Stories to Draw and Tell, and Bible Wheels this year. I don't have them in my hands at the moment, they are on the way ;)
I am wondering if there are any similar for my 4th and 5th graders.
Currently all I am using for my 1stm 3rd, 4th and 5th is Leading Little Ones to God but I want something a bit more meatier for the two older but that will also keep the interest of Lance and Ethan because I school them all together for Bible.
Next year I plan to use How To Study Your Bible for Kids by Kay Arthur and Janna Arndt.
Anyway, I wanted somthing fun this year and was wondering if there are any big kid crafts :)

I'm using Ann Voskamp's Volume One right now. We are in lesson 5. The kids are loving it! I was able to order about 75% of the suggested additional reading books from our local library which is a huge cost savings. But you don't need these book to use the curriculum effectively.
In the lesson about the layers of the atmosphere, I made my own wall chart of the layers of the atmosphere for the kids because they just couldn't visualize it on their own. But they had a great time pretending to be walking through the layers and floating out into space with me. We are a very kinetic household when it comes to learning! LOL
I was able to find youtube videos or free interactive games that went along with every lesson. You can find my bookmarks for these videos and such here: http://www.symbaloo.com/mix/crimsonbelovedgeography . I've used symbaloo for years and it's user friendly interface makes creating visual bookmarks easy for my children to find exactly what they need without messing with my own bookmarks.
I also bought book two but I haven't had time to read it yet.
Thanks for the link, I'll have to check it out today.

Thanks ladies, I'm trying to decide between A Child's Geography, Map Trek and Expedition Earth. :ack2:

I have not used the TM. With purchasing the extras I believe it depends how in depth you would like to go with ETC.

I plan to use Latin Road with my 12 and 13 yr. old dc next year. Both have not used PR.
PR sells The Bridge to the Latin Road for those who haven't used PR before LR.
I haven't seen LR but I hear that the child should have a strong grammar background before starting LR.
Sorry I have no real experiance but thought at least it will give you a bump and hopefully others will chime in.
Blessings,
Linda<><

My kids like for me to grade their work :tongue_smilie:. We do have a few programs like AG that use grades. On the AG test I add all the points and give dd her grade.
Latin test I give grades too because my kids want me too. It's nothing real serious. I just gauge by how many they missed. Although I have an EZ grader as well :001_huh:.
I do have my children correct missed answers and it will bring their grade up:D.
It's actually a motivater here, they want A's or 90% and above.
I don't record it in a ledger or anything (I probably should).
But then again this is the homeschooling mama who uses a bell, stands at the whiteboard to teach, has the children raise their hands etc. :leaving:

I read the first two pages, then I had to stop since I didn't want to register to get the third page.
I know from reading various other articles and books that this article is saying what many other articles are saying. Basically that boys like 'boy' books.
But these articles just don't fit into my family. I have two boys who love the typical 'girl' books. I read my 5 and 7 year old the whole "Laura" series including "The Little House on the Prairie" and it was a all time favorite. They just wanted more and more.
I guess I was just turned off by the fact the author of the article was stating to NO 7 year old boy would like "The Little House on the Prairie". I think it also said all boys would like "Captain Underpants" which was a total flop here.
I would have taken the article more seriously if they said, "Most boys". or "We surveyed so many boys and found...". But the fact the author is basically saying NO boy could like books like my boys do - is almost like he is stating that there is something wrong with them. So I gave the article a thumbs down.
:iagree:my boys love The Little House books. We have the whole series on audio and they listen to them weekly. I think Brent has memorized the series:D. And some of my boys listen to Elsie Dinsmore as well:001_smile:.

I say jump ship if it's not fitting your dc learning style. My son has a hard time processing information and as much as I wanted him to fit into the Classical/CM type student it was not working for him. His brain doesn't work that way :001_huh:. This is why I switched him to textbooks for every subject.
When he was younger I was trying to use a math program that taught the why's (Singapore, RS, MM etc.) when he needed something more straight forward like R&S, CLE. I'm not saying that he can't learn the why's of math but I think he needed to see the steps first and learn why later.
For history/science I was using programs like SL, WP, MFW when he needed something more textbookish. With so many components with using a more literature approach it really overwhelmed him. He needed one book, with a table of contents :D it's organized and his brain can handle it. Not to say he doesn't read a lot of living books because he does.
For writing he is using The Paragraph Book, if WWW was available earlier I know that would have been a good fit for him.
I'm so thankful that my son loves to learn and enjoys school. On his own he will take notes from the dvd lectures and rewrite them later. This is fun for him. I think he knows that it will help him retain the information because he learns differently.
His sister on the other hand wants know the why's behind math and the English language.

Merry, do you know where I could find the links to print off the Progress Chart? I had found it on the AAS website a few weeks ago, but now I am unable to locate it.
Not sure if you have to be a member for this http://www.thechatterbee.com/group/allaboutspellinglevel2
If the link doesn't work, I'm sure you can email AAS and they will email the link.

Is there diagramming in AG?
Yes.

Thank you ladies!
How many times a week did you do this and about how long to complete a lesson?

Shurley English and Analytical Grammar.
My dd will finish AG (season 1 and 2) and then use Bob Jones next year.

I'm using the Little Man in the Map. I have the book and will hopefully purchase the map soon. I have only read some of it to the kids and now when they look at a map they can see the little man:001_smile:
-
This is the first year that I'm not purchasing for the next so early. The last two years I purchased early and changed so much of it by the time we started in Sept. Because of this I'm going to wait until it's closer to the next school year.
I'm really happy with this years choices and have enjoyed teaching (most of the time:001_huh:) that I don't feel like researching right now.

My 12yr. old dd can with some of the shorter ones but usually I have to say the longer passages about 4 or 5 times.
We are on week 15 but looking further at future weeks and seeing how long some of the passages are, I'm wondering how she'll do.
