  1. Attuneup sounds very interesting. Did it work for you? It looks like the website hasn't been updated in a couple of months, so I am a bit concerned that it might not be a valid option anymore. Any insight on that? Thanks!
  2. Thank you for your input. I think you are all probably correct. It is just going to be difficult to get the scholarships we need. At least I know now - before the second kid starts high school. :001_smile: Just for clarification: the school is producing a transcript. I request one after every semester and have had to have them make changes each time. My current problem is that their computer system is not accurately averaging the weighted GPA and thus the class rank is also incorrect. We've been round-and-round over it and, at this moment, I am about ready to concede defeat. I guess the good news is that I'll be ready to fight again in a couple of days.
  3. If I have used an online charter school for high school classes, do I state that school or homeschool on things like college and scholarship applications? Should I create a homeschool transcript? I homeschooled my son through the 8th grade and then we started utilizing an online charter school. He is currently a senior and we are working on college and scholarship applications. The charter school is publicly funded and his classes have been online, however, he has been at home the entire time. One reason we decided to use the charter school was because he would have an accredited transcript. Unfortunately, the school cannot seem to produce a correct transcript. I am beyond frustrated and I am now thinking it would be better to have a homeschool transcript. What do you think? Can I legally claim that he is homeschooled on these applications and create our own transcript? I certainly don't want to lie on any of these applications and I am very torn. Just for some background: He has always said he is homeschooled. When people ask me, I say that I homeschool but "we use an online charter school". The folks at the school are adamant that the kids enrolled there are NOT homeschooled. Also, I don't know if it matters at all, but we are in Oklahoma. There are very few laws regarding homeschooling. We are not required to file grades or test or use any kind of umbrella program. Thanks in advance!
  4. Thank you so much for the responses. Food for thought for sure. I have made an appointment to see a vision therapist and we'll see what happens from there. We will also go back for further consultation with the first doctor and get some more questions answered. Hopefully, after talking with both and comparing their plans, we can make the best choice for our daughter. OhElizabeth, I am fascinated by the brain tone information. I will search to see if you have other posts on that topic. If not, how do you test for such a thing? We are just beginning to figure out some of our issues and only want to the first vision doc to rule out vision issues. I was shocked to find out that there was truly something there. I don't know that vision is the only issue though and I'm not real sure which roads to travel. I will be gleaning lots of info from this board. Thanks!
  5. I recently found out that my DD has some vision issues - convergence being one of them. The Dr. we saw does some sort of vision training that he insists is not the same as vision therapy. He claims that traditional vision therapy does not have long-term results. IE, it doesn't actually solve the problem and there will be regression. Can I get some experienced opinions? Please share what problems were being corrected, how long the VT sessions lasted, and how long the VT results have lasted if you can. Thank you very much. I look forward to hearing from those of you who have already been down this road.
  6. http://www.letteroftheweek.com - great list of books for each letter as well as activities, snack suggestions, songs, etc http://www.dltk-kids.com - printouts of all kinds, activities, handwriting, coloring pages galore (they even have sign language color sheets) Both are FREE!!!!
  7. Will you be using Year 1? I also have a child similar to yours. He is 11 but reads extremely well. We started TOG Y1 in August and have greatly enjoyed it. I did buy materials for both UG and D because I wasn't sure where to put him. So far, I have kept him mainly in UG with some D. I plan to switch that in the next semester - mostly D with some UG. Do you have a good library system? Be sure to check the resources there first. I found that our library has many of the literature and history resources. I do strongly recommend the Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of the Ancient World. There have been several weeks my son has read both that and the D level history book and said that that one was better and even more informative. For the literature, I agree that some of the worksheets are difficult. There have been some weeks that my son has read both UG and D literature. However, I don't think I have ever given him worksheets on both. If you stick with the program, they will have another chance to cover the material. Some of the worksheets will be more valuable on the second read. The important thing to remember is that you are the teacher. You only need to assign what you feel ought to be done. I'd be happy to discuss this with you and give you other specific recommendations if you would like. Feel free to email me. God bless you in this transition and in your schooling!
  8. Thanks so much for the replies. I'm going to give it a go without them. Thanks for saving me some money, time, and stress:001_smile:!
  9. We are starting Zeta in January. I have a starter set of blocks and the fraction overlays. I do not have the decimal inserts. Do I need them or can I get by without them? Thanks!
