  1. I just bought it at Sams Club for $50 with free shipping.
  2. Yes, if I could guess, I would say they are at about a 6th grade level. They would probably need help with paragraph/essay writing and math starting at about pre-algebra. They haven't had any science or history though.
  3. Any suggestions for a 9th grade unschooler wanting a more formal education? My ds's friend wants an actual curriculum. If you had to start with remedial work and get them caught up, what would you suggest for high school? They may even want to go to school for 11th and 12th. Thanks in advance for any advice I can pass along! :)
  4. Thank you so much for the lengthy reply cbolling! I will either use this, or the Cozy Grammar DVD's over the summer so I can make sure she has a high school level English starting in the fall for 9th. It's actually the writing I think she will need more help with. I'm considering Brave Writer online, but hoping to find something a bit cheaper. Thank you for your suggestions. :)
  5. I'll admit I'm clueless about high school credits. I read somewhere that someone's child used Bridgeway Remedial English and earned a credit for it. Is this possible? I was told it was always a good idea to use what is written for high school level children if they want to get into college. I ask because my child may need to use this in her freshman year, but I didn't think she could earn a credit for it. Can someone please advise? I'm just beginning to learn about graduation requirements. Thank you in advance.
  6. In your opinion, what is the best nationally normed test for a child that has sever anxiety when testing? TIA!
  7. Thank you so much for the replies. She's in the southwest Indiana area. She is definitely doing research herself, I just wanted to see if I could get advice from veteran homeschooling folks. I've sent her links to local support groups, so hopefully she will connect with others in her area. I appreciate anyone taking the time to reply. I will definitely forward all the helpful information!
  8. I've posted on the high school board, but thinking I'll get more more replies if I post here. I have a friend who would like to pull her sophomore out of school, and let him homeschool the last 2 1/2 years of high school. Mine are younger, so I don't have much advice as far as curriculum goes. They do not have a strong internet connection where they are, she is probably only interested in accredited, and she wants something that has a "teacher". She is considering Bridgeway Academy, and also asked about Alpha Omega. I've mentioned Abeka and Bob Jones so she can research those. Do you all have any advice? She is quite nervous and overwhelmed, but would like to pull her son out. Thank you in advance!
  9. If a child has had no formal grammar or writing, would it be possible to start in level 6 and skip level 5 altogether? Do you think if they moved slow, they would be fine? Or do you think they might be overwhelmed? TIA
  10. I want a little less screen time, and more reading. :) It will be just for fun.
  11. We've just started and I have a question please. Do you all have the child do the "Lesson Practice" alone, and THEN watch the DVD to make sure they got the answer right? -or- Do you have the child watch the teacher do it on the board, follow along, and THEN do the "Mixed Practice" alone? What does it look like in your home? TIA.
  12. We are loving Hake Grammar so far. http://www.hakepublishing.com/
  13. My daughter loves playing with the apps on my phone when we are out and about. Her birthday is coming up so I'd like to get her her own device. I have NO CLUE what to get her. She doesn't need a phone. Is there something that will allow her to get apps, Netflix, and maybe text? Will I be paying a monthly fee for service? She is turning 12. Thanks for your help!! I can't keep up with all these devices! :001_unsure:
