That’s a good idea. I randomly chose a book and got The Great Passage. If there are no objections, let’s do that one.
It’s a little over 200 pages and looks like a quick read. Could we start discussing on June 4th, or do we need more time? The 15th?
6/4 works for me!

Oh, sorry, Everyone! I’m almost always on my phone. I forgot to “request desktop site“ before I pasted the link. Hopefully everyone figured it out. I haven’t listened to it yet, but looking forward to it.

Audible just released 30 minute follow up/after show episode to West Cork.
It’s free!

I loved the clear, direct, unadorned writing style. When I tutor incoming college freshman in composition, I generally counsel them to forego the flowery language and get to the point. Perhaps I'm a little jaded in that regard.
I think the entire book was a big River of Darkness. The poor author swam and swam, but only ended up in virtually the exact same place as he started. I have never read a book on North Korea before. This one was terrifying. It left me feeling extremely empty and unsatisfied that there wasn't some sort of "conclusion." I wasn't expecting a happy ending, just not so much unknown. I think, as a reader, I am spoiled to memoirs by people who have "overcome great odds" and this is really about an average marginalized individual who did the best he could with the hand he was dealt. It was a very stark look at reality, not reality TV, but REAL reality.
I'm glad I read it.

I passed my licensure exam today! I was sooooo nervous. As soon as I got into my car, I called my Mom and burst into tears. Graduation is next Saturday. I guess I’m really going to have to find a job now. Wow.

I soooo feel for you! I have never done well in group projects. I admit to being bossy and controlling, but I also work hard. People love to sit back and let me do EVERYTHING. I actually don’t mind the work, but it burns my buns to share the credit.

I started listening today. I can see why critics are calling it the next Serial.
It’s VERY different from Serial, but VERY good on its own. Worth every minute.

I graduate in about 3 weeks.
I’m taking my LMSW exam in 2 weeks.
I just need to finish my internship hours at the VA mental health clinic.
Graduate school has literally been the most horrendous and fantastic experience of my life. I thought homeschooling was an adventure. It’s nothing compared to post-40 grad school, LOL.
I think my family expects me to get a job this summer!

It’s so crazy! I have a BIG paper to get done by next week. I haven’t even started my research. I spent this past weekend rewriting a group paper that turned out to be a group disaster. I am sure my entire group thinks I’m a huge narcissist, but I’ll take that label if it comes with an A, LOL.
Im also trying to squeeze in preparation time for my licensure exam in a couple of weeks. So many balls in the air!

Hey look! I thought I was in here by myself. I have 3 weeks left but they are probably going to be the most action packed weeks of my life. BOO!
Sounds like the end of your semester will be a breeze. I'm so sorry your Mom's passing has made school so rough. I sometimes wish life would just pause a bit so I can gather myself, but . . . then it wouldn't be life at all, would it.

Sorry for so many tests, everything looks so weird and I’m having a little trouble orienting myself. Smooches!

I seem to be myself on my laptop, but not myself on my phone, which is where I view the forums most of the time.

Most of my clothes hang in the closet. I hang them up inside out so that I know they have been worn once before. I guess this could also work with folding clothes. What about once worn clothes? What do you organized folks do with those?
They are too clean to be washed but too dirty to be put back in the closet or dresser with clean clothes. What do you do with them?

I personally have no opinion or judgement on other people’s homes, unless they veer into hoarder territory, which I consider a mental health issue.
I like a very clean home to live in. I was raised in a clean home and so have many decades of experience. It comes very natural to me. I also would like to point out that one can have a very clean home and still value and enjoy their people.

Way too messy for me! But I like a super-clean house AND I don’t have children at home anymore. Just a lap dog and he’s neater than all the people that live here. He has middle class doggy privilege, LOL.

I think usually you have to purchase the Kindle book first and then receive a possible discount on the Audible book. You will know in advance by clicking on the Kindle summary page on Amazon. There is a little blurb where it talks about “whispersync for voice.†I always know if there is a discount in advance, it’s never a surprise.

Rebel, I’m so sorry that this has affected you so personally. HUGS.

Ok, I’ve been wracking my brain to figure out what you’re saying. I know, starting a couple decades ago, Houston’s city wards went through a lot of gentrification, to the point that many original residents were pushed out due to property taxes increasing greatly.
These bombs were all in east Austin neighborhoods. And I know how ridiculously expensive it is to own/rent a home inside the city there. Could it be some maniacal way of scaring these residents enough to move? That sounds nuts, but I know scare tactics have been used before to do the same.
I tried to PM you but it wouldn’t go through. Yeah. Pretty much what you said.

It’s wall to wall nonstop coverage.
The city is insane already this week because all of the schools and universities are on Spring Break and we have 1000s of visitors in town for the Rodeo and SXSW.
I actually think it’s only tangentially related to race, but more directly related to something Austin needs to have an honest discussion about. But that is another conversation for another venue on another day.

The School of Social Work at UT Austin is so small that the BSWs, MSSWS, and PhDs are all individually recognized at one ceremony. I was super proud of my MSSW, but seeing the INCREDIBLE moment on stage given to PhDs was *almost* enough to make me circle back inside the building and get back to work, LOL.
Now I guess I have to move on to the next phase of my life. I haven’t figured out exactly what that is yet, but I wanted to thank everyone here for their support.
It’s too bad we lost so much of our group due to the forum/site stuff. I hope this post finds all those for whom it’s intended.
Smooches!
