  1. Do you do this on a treadmill or outside? Do you do your work out in the morning or afternoon? I have been wanting to start walking. I don't enjoy the treadmill. I am afraid to walk alone..just me plenty of women do it in our subdivision. What do you do with your kids while you are walking/running? How did you work yourselves up to jogging? I would love to jog, but never have been able to get my breathing right...so I am not gasping for breath!
  2. We are in our 2nd week of school and the dc are at the table right now doing school work. They have been doing this all week! Dd LOVES math..using TT. Ds doesn't mind his, but it takes him a while to do--Chalkdust. They both love geography. They don't mind doing grammar(R&S)..we are doing 99% of it orally. They have asked if they could stay up 20mins later to do more school work:thumbup: I have them scheduled until 3:30 doing school work, but they have been finished by 1 at the latest!!!
  3. I was wondering how you use this. We are just starting and ds will be finishing up mod. 1. Do you work on this when you do the study guide or do you do it while working on the mod.? Did your dc enjoy doing the lapbook or did they find it busy work? If they enjoyed it..did it help them?
  4. If so how do you go about having them do it? Do you have an assignment book or just a notebook? Dc are in a weekly 4-h group, they do have homework to do. Last week they forgot half of what they were suppose to do. I told them they needed to write it down for now on. They just looked at me like I was crazy...maybe they thought I should write it down for them like I do everything else. I want them to know how to do this type of stuff. If they ever have to go to ps I don't want them struggling because they don't know how to do simple things like this. What other simple things like this do you have your kids do?
  5. I know this has been asked many times, but I can find the post. Those of you who work outside the home or from the home. What do you do? How do you schedule work and the kids? I need to find a job paying around $800 a month. I was thinking about delivering local papers, but could not find anything on the net, BUT the gas...anyone do this now? do you get paid for gas? I also have heard of people working from home inserting ads into the newspaper...which would be a job I wouldn't mind doing, but not sure that it is true. My SIL did this, but did it at the warehouse. Most online jobs don't seem legit. I think someone on here said they have a job doing something online. What do you do? Do you have to have a degree? (I don't have one) My problem is dh works long hours and could work longer than regular shift, sometimes he doesn't get a day off. So I couldn't schedule working on his days off. My kids are not that young--12 and 10..18 yr old will be in college and working, so he will never be home. I still feel like I need to be here with my kids. I have been thought about babysitting..but I am not sure this would be the answer. I will need at least 3 kids to make around the amount I need and that is a lot of work and having to do school work! If I have to do it I will, though... How did you get the word out that you wanted to watch dc in home? Thanks!
  6. we started Pre-Algebra on Monday. I am confused at what to do! Ds watched all of 1.1 on the dvd. He completed 1.1 between Monday and Tuesday. He is now working on 1.2. which is going to end up taking him until tomorrow to finish. He is only working on every other problem...there are a LOT of problems. I thought (for some reason) ds was only to watch a portion of the tape and then do his lesson. Are we doing this right???
  7. I have never found a lipstick/lip gloss I like. I end up wiping it all off because I feel like I have to much make up on, so I end up going with out. But my lips get so dry.
  8. What do you use? I have the TM, Student Notebooks, Uncle Josh's and A classroom atlas. Do we need the Ultimate Geography and Timeline Guide? I want my dc to get the most out of this, since we are covering history this year, just focusing on geography. Thanks!
  9. Matt Lauer say something about how everyone was cheering..nothing about booing. I did hear booing with some of the other teams, though
  10. Ds can not go to this school unless he has financial aid. They say we make to much money for him to get the aid, but we canNOT afford it! They told him he is not eligible for the Hope Scholarship until he has completed 30hrs and maintained a 3.0 average..since he was homeschooled and they don't know if what is on his transcript is true or not! We don't know what to do..I am so upset about this whole thing..he applied back at the end of May and just found yesterday that he had been accepted. He is suppose to start on the 25th of this month! He/we are suppose to come up with at least $600 just for tuition..that does not include his books or whatever else he needs! What else is out there that he can do????

  12. It was also sent to my aunt. I thought it was funny and would share with y'all....Sorry I did not post this in the original posting!! I am assuming it is something that goes around the web...
  13. POWER OUTAGE DURING A MAMMOGRAM I actually kept my mammogram appointment. I was met with, 'Hi! I'm Belinda!' This perky clipboard carrier smiled from ear to ear, tilted her head to one side and crooned, 'All I need you to do is step into this room right here, strip to the waist, then slip on this gown. Everything clear?' I'm thinking, 'Belinda, try decaf. This ain't rocket science.' Belinda skipped away to prepare the chamber of horrors. With the right side finished, Belinda flipped me (literally) to the left and said, 'Hmmmm. Can you stand on your tippy toes and lean in a tad so we can get everything?' 'Fine', I answered. I was freezing, bruised, and out of air, so why not use the remaining circulation in my legs and neck and finish me off? My body was in a holding pattern that defied gravity (with my other breast wedged between those two 4 inch pieces of square glass) when we heard, then felt a zap! Complete darkness and the power went off! 'Oh, maintenance is working. Bet they hit a snag.' Belinda headed for the door. 'Excuse me! You're not leaving me in this vise alone are you?' I shouted. Belinda kept going and said, 'Oh, you fussy puppy...the door's wide open so you'll have the emergency hall lights. I'll be right back.' Before I could shout 'NOOOO!' she disappeared. And that's exactly how Bubba and Earl, maintenance men extraordinaire, found me, half-naked and part of me dangling from the Jaws of Life, and the other part smashed between glass! After exchanging polite 'Hi, how's it going' type greetings, Bubba (or possibly Earl) asked, to my utter disbelief, if I knew the power was off. Trying to disguise my hysteria, I replied with as much calmness as possible 'Uh, yes, yes I did thanks.' 'You bet, take care' Bubba replied and waved good-bye as though I'd been standing in the line at the grocery store. Two hours later, Belinda breezes in wearing a sheepish grin. Making no attempt to suppress her amusement, she said, 'Oh I am sooo sorry!' The power came back on and I totally forgot about you! And silly me, I went to lunch. Are we upset?' And that, Your Honor, is exactly how her head ended up between the clamps....

  16. No flaming please! YES, I do know that dogs bark!!! We have a dog that loves to bark at ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and we need to break her.
  17. that they do not cover grammar in school!!! She said they use to, but stopped. She was saying how horrible she was at it, so she didn't do anything in class! She is the same age as my youngest son..12 She had told me about 2yrs ago about what they did in a language arts class.. they stacked oreo's...I asked what she learned from it and she said, "how to stack oreo's"! She also said they had an egg rolling contest in the same class as well. I just looked at her funny and she said that her teachers are weird! I have heard a few things similar to what she told me from other people! I am so glad my kids are home studying with me and not at the school they would be attending if they were in ps!
  18. I am looking for a 5th grade reading list for my dd...any suggestions?
  19. I am wanting to make the first day special. I was planning on going school supply shopping today, but I thought I might wait until I could go alone to purchase special things for ds and dd. What do you purchase to make them excited to start back? Dc will be 5th and 7th grade. If it isn't school supplies that you do...what do you do to make the day special?

  21. I know some of you are pretty open with your dc, but a ? to those who aren't. Dd is 10 and will be covering Sonlight 5 Science this year. I have the book Almost 12 and the book The Complete Book of the Human Body, which also talks about s*x. How do you go about teaching this? Dh told me to HIDE the Almost 12 book..he was shocked to hear about its contents. We have not even talked to our 12yr old ds. We didnt talk to our oldest until he was 13/14. We have talked about puberty with both dc, but nothing else!
  22. How do you use this with your dc? Do you go over the Teachers lesson and have dc do every problem?...this is how I have been doing it and it takes them FOREVER! I was wondering if anyone has a better way of doing this and dc retaining the info.
  23. We are looking at getting one to put in the wall. I read somewhere that we don't need to get one that is made for the wall. We will have to frame it so it can work. We are constantly letting our dogs(3) out, since they don't all have to go at the same time. I am wondering if this will save us in electricity/gas. Thanks for any advice you can give! Where do you have it? Was it hard to install? Was it hard to get your dogs to use it? Do you think it is a energy saver?
  24. I know you are suppose to do at least an hour a day of work. BUT, I like to have things scheduled. Does ANYONE have a schedule for Pre-Algebra...that they wouldn't mind sharing with me??????
  25. I was planning on using LLATL for my 5th grader, I just started planning out everything and was looking through the book and its definitely NOT what I want! I want something similar to Lightning Literature. Anything out there like this?? I have grammar, writing and spelling covered.
