Sounds like thyroid to me. Is it hard to swallow pills? Any other thyroid symptoms like tiredness, dry skin, weight gain?

Gorgonzola, gouda, brie with a layer of walnuts.....
You are not nice to torture someone (op) addicted to cheese.

I, too, love cheese. When I gave up dairy several weeks ago, I thought it would be really hard. Surprizingly, it has not been nearly as difficult as I thought.
But YMMV of course. And good luck.

While I am not a certified teacher, I would like to comment.
The most important prerequisite for teaching is having yourself mastered the knowledge or skills. While this may be accomplished by having a degree (but is certainly not guaranteed), it is also possible to gain the knowledge by research and reading.

Even though you tested negative for dairy and gluten allergy, I would consider a trial period such as 4 weeks without each of these. You might be surprized that it has a considerable effect without being an "official" allergy.

One thing I've found from eating (a lot) more vegetables while also doing low fat. It takes effort to eat enough calories to keep you going until the next meal. Beans and fruit can help with the calories. And nuts are a much healthier fat source than cheese. Walnuts are especially high in Omega 3 fatty acid. Also, raw veggies such as greens and tomatoes add bulk without adding many calories.

Veggie platter: appx. 12 oz. fresh broccoli/cauliflower, sauteed/steamed in 1 tablespoon of olive oil, garlic, and a splash of water, then topped with 1 oz. of reduced-fat cheddar.
I would think the veggie part was very healthy, but that it had too much fat. 1 tsp. oil would be more what I would consider a healthy amount. Would it keep you from being hungry until dinner? It wouldn't for me. Personally, I would use lemon juice instead of the cheese and add a black bean and corn salad and some fruit.

Does anyone plan on taking in their parents when they are unable to care for themselves adequately?
In 2002 dh flew to his home state with the plan that he and his db would do some fix up work at their mother's. It became clear that she was not attending to her basic needs, and was spending $$$$ buying mail order stuff, with the majority of it still in the original shipping cartons. After much heart wrenching discussion between dh and his brother, it was decided that she would come live with us. She has been with us ever since.
I expect that my mother (74) will be with us at some point, although for the time being, she is living with her 98yo mother who was independent until last year, but still considers it a wasted day if she can't get out and weed her garden on her knees.

Where do you get your calcium from now??
Diets rich in vegetables and fruits contain adequate calcium. Limiting animal protein, caffeine, etc. that prevents calcium loss is important in achieving calcium balance. Think about it: societies that consume virtually no dairy also have among the lowest rates of osteoporosis, and those that consume the most dairy have the highest osteoporosis rates. We are not being protected by drinking lots of milk. See The China Study and Eat to Live for more/better explanations.

Yes, but some of those taxes were supposed to be set aside for later, to deal with these issues. They gave x dollars for their futures and the government spent it as it came in, instead of putting it into some sort of savings plan. Now, do we say, golly they screwed you, sorry, and leave it at that? Or, do we pay these people what they are owed based on an agreement with our government, and simply make it clear that from today forward, your SS/Medicaid money goes to pay whatever DC says it should and is only titled SS/Med money to make you feel less sick about having to pay it?
I agree, that is how is was billed. You are paying for your future. Unfortunately, I think it was a "big lie" to get people to buy into the arrangement. IMO the unintended side effect was a deterioration of self responsibility. I certainly don't put any eggs into the basket of "my future is secure" in the hands of the government. Are there any easy answers? Of course not. Should we throw Grandma under the bus? THat would hardly do. Do we need to reevaluate our social policy? Absolutely.

Milk is big business. Get out The China Study and read further. The author has some insights into how big business can influence the nutritional information we are all given, especially about dairy and milk. Another interesting source in Joel Fuhrman, author of Live to Eat, and Disease Proof Your Kids.
Believe me, I was as shocked as you- I grew up on milk, the "perfect" food. But since I've been off dairy, my allergies have cleared up.

What happens to your elderly parents or grandparents is an admittedly emotional issue. The broader societal issue is who will pay the cost. If we believe that the government- read taxpayer (you and me) should bear the cost, then that is a system of income redristribution. I make x dollars and pay y taxes, supporting your parent in a nursing home, or 2x dollars and pay 3y taxes. If your mother's nursing home bill can be paid by someone else, why not? And if your mother can then leave her land to you, then great for you. But what if there are so many mothers and fathers and grandfathers and grandmothers that need nursing home care that the system is about to implode? And the burden must be born by increasing your taxes, to the point that you can no longer afford to live as you desire? Do you put 2 and 2 together and realize that you can't have it both ways?

Really?? Wow!! How does it cause you to lose calcium?
The short answer is that intake of animal protein (from milk, for example) results in an acidic imbalance in the body and calcium is pulled primarily from the bones to help neutralize the acid.

While they do use finger numbers, they definitely teach note reading. IMO Bastien, with its emphasis on positions is the method that most likely leads to a dependence on finger numbers. Faber introduces playing the same note with different fingers and playing all over the keyboard to avoid equating a note with a particular finger.
I started with Thompson also, and it is considered "old school" for many good reasons;)

Another factor in favor of Faber is that they maintain a website that has video demonstrations of Nancy Faber teaching the Primer level lessons. http://pianoteaching.com/teachers/index.html Look on the left.
I see they also have videos for the My First Piano Adventures series. Replaces Primer for young students (5-6).

Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman. His point is nutrient density; which foods provide the most nutrients per calorie.

According to FB, I'll survive a zombie attack. I can sleep well tonight.
Oh, you must explain for all us dimwits.

one container of fat free vanilla flavored yogurt
one half cup of low fat milk
one cup of frozen strawberries (you can use peaches, berries, whatever)
one-fourth cup of dark chocolate chips
blended together into a smoothie
Don't forget there is a bunch of sugar in flavored yogurt.
I went off all refined carbs recently and my family was ready to have me commited. The worst symptoms lasted about a week, and were gone by 2 weeks. So worth it though. Now I am much more calm and even keeled, even less depressed.

I might try standing the book up with the cover open, getting some air between the pages, and leaving it on an outside table (sheltered) for a day.
Just don't forget about them, like I did, and have a thunderstorm come up and blow them around and get soaked and ruined. 2 new books down the tubes! I couldn't tell for sure wether or not the outside air had any effect on the odor:glare:.

My dd, 12, is supposed to practice 50 min a day, 6 days a week, so that is also 5 hrs per week. She will avoid practice unless I specifically tell her it is time to play. every. single. time. When do they start taking the initiative themselves?? Oh, and she loves to perform, so that is not the problem.

As someone who comes from a family of women who perpetually look pregnant, (including my sister who's never had kids) I'm blaming it on the genes. Currently, my waist is only 2" smaller than my hips. Try finding pants to fit that kind of figure. I don't have the answers, but you have my understanding and sympathy.

I've cleaned my stainless steel coffee pot with diluted automatic dishwasher detergent. It came really clean, but there is a place where undiluted detergent came in contact with the surface, and it permanently etched it, so be careful.

Rant: Salesman who ignore your "No"
in General Education Discussion Board
Posted
IMO if a salesperson ignores basic social etiquette as part of his/her job, that relieves me of strictly complying with etiquette. Not that I'm nasty, but closing the door or hanging up after the second "no" is not the same as closing the door or hanging up on someone not trying to sell you something.
