  1. I am using SL 100 and am thinking about having my daughter outline Hakim, and was wondering if anyone has done this before. We have not done any outlining yet, so any examples would be great!
  2. She completed the current level of Saxon 87 Donna.. Your pastor's advice is what I was thinking the whole time. Hmmm Can I really say that she has the concepts in 87 and 1/2 solid... sigh... um no, I can't. In fact, she has asked to NOT do Algebra and do 1/2 instead. So, I guess I will do that?
  3. I was wondering what others did after they completed Saxon 87? I am trying to determine what the best route for my daughter is... She completed Saxon 87 with about an 85% mastery... she did ok.. seemed to be confused a bit. I am wondering if I should give her another year of pre algebra, or go on to Algebra 1. What did you do?
  4. Just wanted to say thanks.. I am going to give it a try:) Jennifer
  5. Thanks for the replies... still unsure as to what to do..
  6. We have always used Saxon Math, and have made it through grades 1-Algebra 1. My 14yo daughter is not a math person at all and she hates saxon. I am really thinking we need to switch. I am leaning towards Teaching Textbooks, but all the bad rap has me fearful. Here are my thoughts though... I know they are "behind" but if I used it for pre-algebra through pre-cal... won't she get everything she needs. I am thinking she needs the slow and steady approach to math. Right now she feels like a math failure. She really wants to be a nurse, and knows she needs lots of math to get there. However, she told me yesterday that maybe she just needs to be a beautician or something because she will never get through math and understand it.:001_huh::001_huh: sigh sigh sigh I am not proficient enough at math to teach it either... which is another reason Teaching Textbooks appeal to me so much. Thoughts?
  7. I would love your opinions on this. I love the fact that they are reading bible stories while learning to read... Opinions?? pro's con's?
  8. I am planning High School and would love what you will be using/doing for all four years of High School....
  9. I am planning High School and would love what you will be using/doing for all four years of High School....
  10. I may be using Sonlight Core 100 for my 14yo daughter, who does not like to read much. I am wondering if it is just too much for her. I had my husband look at a sample days worth of reading, and even he said it was a ton of material. He was really shocked. The again, maybe we are just being too easy on her?? sigh.... I guess knowing that she is not really a "reader" I just hate to make her hate reading even more. So, I thought about either ditching Core 100, or just weeding out some of the books. advice:confused::confused:
  11. Linda, Thanks for the reply. Will you share with me how you scheduled these?
  12. I am wondering if it would be too much to have my 14yo daughter do Sonlight 100, Apologia Physical Science, and Runkles World Physical Geography? She really needs a good geography course, and I have considered doing Runkles in place of Physical science this year. Then I would just have her be a year behind in science. For example, she would do Physical for 9th, biology for 10th ect... She just turned 14 so we classify her as an older 8th grader. So... Should I have her do both runkles and apologia or just one of them??
  13. Thanks for the replies... We don't plan to use the composition portion. We are using IEW for that. Thanks everyone...
  14. Just curious if anyone has had success with Abeka grammar. We have done Rod and Staff for a few years, but I really wanted a workbook approach. So, we are going with Abeka for grades 6 and 8.
  15. We use the Explode the Code books here as well. I usually have them do the Before the Code books and then move on the ETC. I don't try to make it match OPGTR, just do both "seperately". My kiddo's have all loved ETC!!!
  16. My daughter does not enjoy reading. She will do what is required of her though. She would rather be writing songs and playing her guitar or piano. I was going to have her do Sonlight core 100 this year but am now thinking it is just tooooooo much reading! My thought was to have her do The Story of US books following the Hewitt Schedule and then pick out a few novels for the year. However, I am uncertain as to how many I should have her read? I have even thought about just ordering lightning lit 8th grade for her... Sigh.. Advice??
  17. I happened upon this program and it looks really good. I would love to hear some opinions... Here is a link: http://www.bgfperformance.com/Books.html
  18. I placed my order last Friday, and have still not received a shipment notice!! I was just curious how long it has taken for your order... sigh!
  19. We are going to use MFW HS here as well. This is what I have done the past few years... 7th grade - Core 7 8th Grade - Core 100 Then she will move into MFW HS My younger daughter will do the following: 6th grade - core 4 7th grade - Core 5 8th Grade Core 100 9th grade MFW HS IF... I had it to do over again, which I do  (I have 3 littles moving up) I would have just started and stuck with MFW all the way through. I have used MFW ECC and Rome to the Reformation. I switched because it felt way too light. However, when I asked my older kiddo's about their favorite years of homeschooling... well, it was those two years of MFW. They said it did not feel rushed or crammed and they learned so much! I guess we really did. We really learned so much in the RTR year!! Probably more info that you asked for... hope that helps.
  20. I will be using Core 100 this coming year and have a question for those who have/will be using this core. I am debating on using the writing that is scheduled in the Core. It looks very interesting and I can see how it will stretch my dd!! So, I would love to hear from others who has used the writing in the core and how it worked for you. I was also planning on using US History based lessons from IEW... I am wondering if it will be too much to try and do both. I just really like the way the writing in core 100 makes the child think!! Opinions???
  21. I am right there with you!! It is hard to let go of our homeschool fantasies!! Lol. My oldest is headed to public high school, which is so hard for me! But, it is the right thing for him. My other 5 will be home and I just don't think we will get around to learning Latin. Ha. But we do know quite a few Latin/Greek roots!! Also, my kids love each other and we are happy and very close knit. What more could I want???
  22. I have decided to use GWG this year for my children, but am unsure of where to place my oldest daughter. She has completed Rod and Staff 4th, 5th, and then we hit a wall in the 6th grade book at about lesson 5:tongue_smilie:!!! She went to public school for 6th grade last year, and did NO grammar at all! So, for 7th grade I put her in the Rod and Staff 6th gradebook. If you ask her what any of the parts of speech are, she can kind of tell you what they are, but truly does not have a grasp on it at all. Sooo, what level should I put her in? She will be an 8th grader this fall, but I am thinking the 8th grade book may be above her? Any advice would be great!
  23. I am trying to decide if I want to switch my dd over to TT from Saxon. She is in tears with Saxon and I just don't think she is really getting it. She has completed a few sample lesson online of TT and really LOVED it! However, I have read the reviews of TT and either people hate it or love it. I just want to make certain that she will be prepared for SAT's as she is college bound!!! Thanks, Jennifer
