  3. I have looked at MFW and I love how that and HOD put God and the Bible into everything. Im not sure MFW will be enough for my older ds though. I already got the preschool package for my 3 yr old and it is adorable! Im working on getting the next HOD package for my 5 yr old.
  4. ugh! Everytime I think I am following a topic I find out Im not! lol I am so on the fence about Core 100!
  5. Hi! So cool to see you here! :hurray: haha! My ds finally pl'd!!! Woohoo! OK, anyway - I am going to try it out with my 12 yr old on Monday. I am looking for something for him for the fall and I was seriously considering SL, but free is a bonus. I really wanted to do Apologia for science, so I am interested to see how the science and math goes. It looks really neat. I went through a day on my own just looking so I am excited to try it out. I am working on CLE K for my 5 year old, but maybe I should check out Easy Peasy and see what next year would look like for him. He's almost done with CLE K and its just super easy for him.
  6. I would love some reviews on the Easy Peasy All In One Homeschool. I have been looking through it and it looks kind of awesome. Thanks!
  7. You know I didnt even think about looking at the reading level for the books. doh! lol I was trying to go over the sample of the guides, but I was a bit overwhelmed. There is so much in one week to read in the guide!
  8. He was tested for reading and scored at 9th grade level. He has always been about two grades ahead. But he has a hard time focusing on school and is easily distracted. He does live yo read and love to learn though.
  9. I am thinking of trying Sonlight next year and would like to do American History or early American history. I dont really want to use Story of the World though, because we started on Vol 3 at the beginning of this year and I didnt really like it. So Core 100 looks like it meets most of those needs. I am not sure if it will be too hard for my ds though. He is 12 and will be in 7th this fall. I was thinking I could spread it out over the next two years so he would do Core 100 for 7th and 8th, then do Core 200 for 9th. I would love some advice! Thanks!
  10. If so, how do you make it work? How do you alter the schedule? Especially for an older child. I was considering possibly doing Core 100 over two years for my soon to be 7th grader.
  11. Yeah I was starting to realize the books will get pricey unless I get them from my the library. They are only doing science, reading, math, social studies, and its basically just reading and answering questions.
  12. Im wondering if anyone has ever used Heart of Dakota as a supplement to a public school curric? Or as a supplement at all? My two oldest have been trying out an independent study program for the past couple of months (after almost 3 years of hs'ing) and they like it alot. They go to the school a few times a week for core classes (just one class per subject), then the rest of the time they do the work at home. The problem is they don't give them much work. Not enough work to even last a week. Anyway, they really like it, but I am torn between bringing them back to hs or letting them stay and supplementing. I was seriously considering using HOD because I it seems so great and I plan to use it for my two youngest. Im not even sure if supplementing with HOD is a good idea or how I would even do it.
  13. Yeah im not too keen on the all workbooks idea either... but i am trying to make a plan for next year and i like the idea of having everything all the same, lol
  14. Has anyone used Christian Light Education as a full curriculum? I was thinking about trying it for 1st grade. I have used some of the K workbooks and some of the 5th math/LA workbooks and like them fine. I'm not sure how it would fare as a whole though. I am looking for something Christian and I know its inexpensive compared to some. I was actually really considering Heart of Dakota, and I know CLE is quite different as it is all workbooks, but its cheaper. Im curious about the Science an Social Studies for the upper grades. How is it?
  15. I can see that learning ahead could help, but that doesnt help me learn what I dont get, lol
  16. Is there a math that would work better when a parent isn't good at it? For 6 grade and up I should add. If my ds needs help with math sometimes its hard for me to help him. It depends on the teachers guide. I'm worried as my ds gets older it will get too hard for me. We can't afford a tutor.
  17. So there is the study of inventors and then also Exploration Education? So you could skip the inventors part? But then that program could use more to beef it up?
  18. yeah its very light. my 8th grader isnt doing much more. he reads a chapter for science, answers several pages of questions, for LA he reads a chapter in a book, answers questions - thats about it. I think they might do some grammar on the day he goes in for class. For history he reads a chapter and answers questions. So he basically has more questions to answer, lol.
  19. My two oldest sons are now (as of a couple of months ago) doing an independent study program through a charter run by the school district. They both like it, but they dont give them much work. Neither of them has enough work to get through 5 days. My 12 year old has two extra days off a week because he finishes his school work so quickly. He wants to continue the school next year, but with what he's doing Im not sure its a good idea. So I am hoping to maybe find ideas to add more to what he is doing. I am at a total loss though for ideas. He is taking the basics: history, science, math, LA. Im not sure what he will be doing next year, but this year he is doing Ancients for history. He reads a chapter and answers some questions. Science he is doing Life science I think? Again read a chapter answer questions. And LA is spelling (writing words 3x each and sentences), read a very short story and answer questions, and then a grammar practice book. I think that is all he does. So its all just very basic and easy work. Any ideas for supplementing (to really enrich what they are doing more than anything)? Im not sure about really adding much else to it. We can add Latin and maybe music appreciation or art appreciation or something. Im just not sure. I feel kind of out of the loop with school now! Or do you think it would just be easier to bring him back to hs? I was thinking of trying Heart of Dakota or My Fathers World with him instead (which I will be doing with my two youngest). Thanks!
