  1. I would decide on different things from month to month as new ideas and needs became apparent to me. Today, I would donate to a new charity I just heard of for the first time- The Purple Leash Project. I think it’s sponsored by Purina, and it helps women escape domestic violence situations with their pets. Apparently most dv shelters don’t accept pets and many people trying to get out of a violent situation won’t leave without their animal. Last week, it was charities in India helping with Covid medical needs and vaccines. Next week, who knows?

  2. Are you sure the facility won’t be providing masks? My DD recently participated in research at her university and before beginning, she had to take the mask they provided and have it tested. It was really interesting and involved spraying something in a bag that was over her head to see if she smelled it or not. They didn’t like the original mask and changed it to another one during testing. Then, they had the supervising professor order more of that kind of mask so they would be available to her later.

Yes, the kids went home.  I had my brother look through jackets, shoes, bags, and his van for them but he is a notoriously bad searcher.  I have been looking for 4.5 hours.  My downstairs is spotless and no one went upstairs except dh and myself so they just can't possibly be up there. I have gone through every bin, cabinet, drawer, couch, etc and they are no where.  They have to be at my brother's house.  I text him letting him know I won't be able to take his and my kids to dance tomorrow morning without the keys so maybe he'll search a little harder this time.

The worst part, I'm pretty sure our other set of keys is locked in the damn van!!! Dh and I will be breaking into the van when he gets off work or tomorrow morning.

So frustrating to work with people who won’t look as hard as you would....and no one is as skilled as a mom in finding lost stuff.

Really hope the keys turn up before you have to break into your van!

  4. DH works in healthcare and anecdotally, people in his office  who have had covid react worst to the first shot while people who haven’t had covid are having a harder time with the second dose. Nobody he knows has had a severe reaction to either, but their opinion on which dose is worse seems to correspond to whether they’ve had covid already.

  5. I think you should force them to make it right- whatever that means to your family, or drag their name through the mud on every form of social media you can find. And maybe your local news station, if they do one of those “on your side” type segments. There is no way they didn’t know what they were selling to you.

  6. We let dd get a dog in high school and it has been a great decision. She did take it to college, and is now a junior. She obviously lives off campus, but has made several great friends because of conversations that began while walking the dog. As a kid with some social anxiety, I truly believe the dog has helped her meet people and get outside for some fresh air once in a while. I will add that we dogsit during finals week so she has more study time. ( Her school is only about 3 hours away)

I love the French Picardie glasses from Williams Sonoma except I didn't pay that much for them. I lucked up on a full set for $30 at the Williams Sonoma outlet about 15 years ago and they are still going strong.

We have these too! I just bought them a few weeks ago from Costco where the price is way better. They may even still be on sale. I really love them so far!

  8. Look on Amazon. I found several pairs of nice jeans for my son to start college in. It was great because we could return anything he didn’t like for free. His favorite pairs ended up being the Buffalo David brand, which were on sale for about $43. They are very stretchy and he ended up sizing down in the waist as recommended in the reviews.

eta- several are on sale for cyber Monday!

We are going to try this.  Marinating now.  What kind of pan do you cook it in?  A roasting pan?  Any water in the pan?

I use the Pampered Chef deep covered baker. It doesn’t have to be that pan, but to give you an idea. A Dutch oven style would work, or probably a 9x13 with foil over the top if you had to. No water- it creates a ton of juice on its own (so don’t use a super shallow dish).

  10. Our town has a grocery store with lights that affect me that way. I finally realized they have a slight flicker going on constantly and I think it’s the blinking that gets to me. I don’t shop there anymore, but more than once I had a headache and had to go to bed after shopping there.(Both times involved having to look hard to find a product, so that I was stationary and focusing my vision In one area more than average.)
