  1. Betty- was your dr. by chance Dr. Alessio Fasano? He was at our conference last fall

Dancer67- endoscopy would show if there was damage from celiac but not intolerance. Intolerance would require different testiing.

Medical testing in the US is-for the major part-funded by drug companies. Cd is a hereditary, autoimmune disease controlled by diet. There's no magic pill so basically no profit. That is changing though. My dd was diagnosed with cd 3 years ago.

  2. Here's my tried and true recipe that's especially good even with hard water. Heat 1/2 cup vinegar till hot (doesn't need to boil) add 1/2 cup clear Dawn. Put in squirt bottle & spray on shower/tub. I usually do it after a shower then just wipe it down the next day. It is slipper so be careful!

  3. we're hoping this might be the last piece in dds health issues. Her hyda scan came back normal, however, she has had ongoing nausea/pain issues for the last 2 1/2 years. Her underlying condition is celiac disease which caused severe damage to her system before it was diagnosed. The prep for the hyda scan made her extremely nausous, the gall bladder area is very tender w/pain radiating through to her back. It's gotten worse since February but she wanted to hold off, if at all possible, till she finished up her freshman year. The surgeon said 3 days to 3 weeks recovery. Anyone here have any stories that won't freak out an already worried mom?

  4. Sounds wonderful! What a great server-I would have left a great tip too!!! I just had a great low carb dish at Puccini's in West Lafayette yesterday. My dd finished up her freshman year at Purdue and we were celebrating. She has celiac disease and is able to get a gluten free pizza that she loves. They're extremely careful with her order and she's never been cross contaminated. I'm happy we have somewhere we both can eat!!

  5. As a retired homeschooler and former cashier at our library, I don't believe homeschoolers deserve any special benefits. I guess I've heard too many excuses and accusations from the same people with fines over and over again. Returning items on time and renewing on time are just things I taught my dds as part of being responsible library patrons.

  6. I posted on this same issue about a year ago. Collections management has become a popularity contest. There is almost ZERO interest in the actual QUALITY of the collection. Our library is consistently chosen as one of the top 3 public libraries in the country. But that is mostly based on usage per capita, not any commentary on what it contains. This library, citing space concerns, has been culling books with low circulation rates. However, they are not replacing them with items of similar content. Books that I had checked out for my older boys were not there for my daughter when it came time to study that time in history. There were huge gaps in content. They usually directed me to their databases, which were basically glorified encyclopedia articles - light in content and interest. Oh, and those space concerns? The shelves are only about 60% full. I think acquisitions has mostly been for dvds (another thing that irks me.)

May I ask which library system you use? We have no space concerns-especially now!

  7. I'd like some input on this topic. Our director, in my opinion, has been very heavily weeding out collection. I feel that we're heading towards a top 10 list centered collection without any depth. Because of my strong opinions on this subject, I like other input into what you believe the library collection's role is in serving the community. The changes in our system are very disheartening to a lot of us but maybe I just need to look at it differently. Thanks for any help you can give me!!

  8. HappyMomofBoys- I just had to say I love your comment-"I teach my kids that we're all on the same team, but we can't all play the same position". Every member contributes in his or her own way. Without actually verbalizing it, that's how we raised our dds.
