  1. Thank you so much I will most likely go with TT but option 1 is dead and gone but Option 2 and 3 are now up for grabs. Knowing me I will most likely take Calc starting March/April and finish by August /September my 11 th grade summer so that I can do AP Calc. I am planning a STEM major Bio to be exact with a minor in lit so I need math.

  2. And taking 2 math courses will not be a problem I have taken 3 sciences courses before 2 are AP in its not a problem. I just did not get Geometry with keystone. Also I will be retuning to ps for 11th and 12th. The math program at that school is hell but I have already looked at placement test and will be more than ready by summer time. I have sumpplmented TT with Khan academy and I am taking AP Chem and the book I am using does more math than my actual math course

  3. If you want independence I suggest Keystone maybe not for all his classes but 1-2 like a test run. Its better he learns now how to do things on his own than like me who struggled and suffered her 9th grade year due to very stupid mistakes and learning how to do things by herself. (I am still struggling with this but I am much better). Think of his 8th grade year as a trial run he is testing out these harder classes without the fear and worry of colleges watching his every move. This is a good year to see what he can and can't do, he might surprise you and be ready for AP in 9th or ready for CC courses. As far a mommy grades go I would not worry. Some of the harshest graders I have ever encountered are homeschool moms :D. Now that being said keystone has the advantage that you don't have to hover over him and can keep tabs on him with the weekly progress reports. I recommend some sort of Composition course on top of an English course or just tell him what I take to heart as a person who lives to bring pen to paper "Never say, do or show what you can create with words" ever since my sister has taken this to heart she is a much better writer. Oh and before I forget tell him this -writing is like art sometimes the weirder the better:lol:

  4. Thanks guys. I already scheduled all the exams and took the late testing date for chem giving me an extra 18 days to study :D. I took the AP Chem with an online school and really cant re name the course. My only comfort is if I mess up this year I will have next year for a re take. My goal is to pass the Chem and get a 5 on all the others. I find exams to be very stressful and just don't do well its a shame that its pretty much the only way for colleges to see your ability. I have taken the ACT before and passed. It was not bad but if I was not so bad a taking exams I could have done a lot better. Also I plan on taking AP Bio next year and the thought of taking AP Bio AP Chem along with 4 others AP's is enough to make me faint. :leaving:

  5. Hello I was not sure were to post this but oh well. Anyway if your DD and DS have taken any AP Exams and did well how did they prepare? I am already losing sleep over how to prepare and was wondering if you guys had anything to offer. I am taking:

    AP English Language

    AP World History

    AP European History

    AP Environmental Science

AP Chemistry (Think I would rather claw my own eyes out than take this exam :glare:)

  6. I read the series starting when I was 12 and did not find it scary. I throughly enjoyed it and found it to be a nice change from the love sick books my friends were reading. That being said I have always been extremely mature when it came to reading material and movies. I was reading personal accounts of the black death and yellow plague in third grade but I would never expose my lil sister to that since she is much more sensitive. I think its ridiculous that someone would rate these books 18 and up. The world is a very scary place and the things going on in it make this book look like childs play. I also found it a bit odd that the parents were not actively helping their children but then again look at the horrors of history and you will find similar cases of people standing by as their family and friends suffered painful deaths.

  7. Option 2 for sure. I am in 10th grade now and taking AP English Language, its a very good course. I am taking it through keystone online school and I plan to take AP Lit in 11th and will most likely throw in another science course during 12th and take a course at the CC. The first option is not rigiourous enough if your DD is even considering Option 2 is shows she has the drive to do it. Tell her AP Lang is fun :D

ps I am typing on my phone so please excuse any spelling errors.

  8. Hi guys well so far I have been loving TT for Algebra 2 although it is a bit easy I have been suplementing with Khan academy. Here is my problem last year I did geometry online and really did not get it. i passed with an 89.5% (the teacher took of 5 points in my assignment because of the font used :glare: I would have had an A) but anyway I really did not grasp the concepts and now I am worried I will not be ready for the SAT. My question is which math sequence do you think it best? I plan to go into medicine.

    Option 1

    8th Pre Algebra

    9th geometry

    10th Algebra 2/ pre calc

    11th calc Honors/ AP statistics

    12th AP Calc

    Option 2

    8th Pre Algebra

    9th geometry

    10th TTAlgebra 2/ TT Geometry

    11th Pre Calc/ AP Statistics

    12th Calc

    Option 3

    8th Pre Algebra

    9th geometry

    10th TTAlgebra 2/ TT Geometry

    11th Pre Calc/ AP Statistics

    Calc over the summer online

    12th AP Calc

Do you think I could do Pre calc and Geometry at the same time after I finish Algebra 2?

  9. What do you guys think?

Eagles are some of North Americas most beautiful creatures. Not only are they some of the most beautiful creatures of North America they are the National bird of the United States of America. Due to this they have been protected diligently since 1940 under the federal Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Until 2007 the bald eagle was considered an endangered species and the US has taken extreme measures to protect their endangered species. In fact the U.S. has spent $1,537,283,091 toward conserving threatened and endangered species in 2007, plus another $126,086,999 in land purchases for habitat preservation. So why is the government granting permission to kill them after spending so much time and money protecting them?

At first glance it may seem like a contradiction, caring them for years and then allowing them to be killed. There is a catch to this law, since the only ones being granted the permits to kill the eagles are Native Americans and even then they are only allowed to kill or capture and release to eagles a year. The reason that the Native Americans are being granted the privilege of killing these eagles is because they “need†them to perform their religious ceremonies. "It has been since the beginning of time with us, and we respectfully utilize the eagle in our ceremonies," said Harvey Spoonhunter, a tribal elder and former chairman of the Northern Arapaho Business Council. "We get to utilize the eagle, which we consider a messenger to the creator."

There are two important issues when evaluating this situation. Can we as not only Americans but people deny the Native Americans their religious rights which were forcibly taken from them. The second issue being how far we will allow religion to influence our decisions even when we are allowing native people to deface the symbol of the United States of America. The answer, is we simply cannot makes this decision will simultaneously pleasing both Native Americans and Americans.

We as a nation created a double standard for ourselves. We pride ourselves on religious freedom but at the same time are known for our fierce patriotism. Although in this situation we are forced to grant Native Americans this right for a multitude of reasons. We have constantly been ignoring the treaties we proposed with them and they stigmas towards Native Americans are extremely violent neither can we violate our promise for religious freedom. Even though religion one this round we must ask ourselves how much we shall allow religion to govern our decisions.

  10. Allergies are a bummer but tell him there is nothing to embarrassed about. I am allergic to wheat, egg, milk, and anaphylactic towards apples I have a million others but those are the hardest to avoid. I can eat wheat egg and milk but usually the stomach cramps and Naseau are so not worth it. Can he get away with eating the things in stuff like the milk in cake? Or does that mess with him the biggest one to not mess with is soy shellfish and nuts he will just become more and more sensitive. When I was more sensitive to apples I would break out going through the produce section. Yeast I am allergic to and my allergist told me to avoid things like Malta and when I am older avoid beer and other fermented drinks. I suggest he look at bob mill for sweet treats or baked food. Amirs has some good stuff also. I hope I have some good info :) but I am a little sidetracked right now.

  11. Alrighty first off let me mention he can do whatever he wants here any choice will be OK. The reason he should take bio before marine bio is because marine bio is a branch of bio. He may not like learning about the plants but marine bio will cover sea plants. It important he understand the basics before he specializes. Sort of how I want to study epidemiology but I need to know chem before because I need to understand the chemical processes. Hope I make sense and if he takes bio this year he can take AP Bio next year with marine bio like an elective.

  12. I am taking AP's this year and they are listed in my sig. I am doing this because I might be able to save a little in college. Although I would rather not test out of some classes, a penny saved is a penny earned. Since most of my choices want 50,000 dollars a year and my degree needs dr. if you want to go somewhere I am doomed. I am also taking SAT II's because my colleges require 3 of them :)

  13. Hey well I go to keystone and it really is a good school. Sometimes I believe they give to much "busy" work like 33 paragraph long definitions and 7 essay questions but thats for an AP . Anyway the regular and honors courses are very easy but you learn a lot. There is just not all these essays and projects that suck time into a black hole never to be found again. If your kid can not be independent DO NOT DO IT! I really mean this it will be torture for him and for you. You will have to be on top of him the teachers here do not contact you EVER... unless you contact them. Now if he is independent or you are willing to watch him go for it. I have had to learn how to be independent on this system and most of the keystone kids I have talked to said that their freshman year was a big mess up. The would fall behind and mess things up mainly because its hard to get used to it. I wish you the best and if you would like to see example keystone assignments look at my blog (I think I posted them there:confused:)
