  1. My daughter has an interview with the Honors College at Texas A&M Commerce next week. She is 16, and she will be graduating high school this year. She will have 22 college credits from dual-credit enrollment, which we have been advised to minimize due to the Honors College requirement of entering as a freshman. She is a nervous wreck. What types of questions are they likely to ask her? Any tips or advice?
  2. Well, by the time my son graduates high school this May, he will have 37 college credits from the community college because he's been enrolled for dual credit. I don't know if he would qualify for the 4 year military scholarship. We are not a military family. I am starting from scratch looking into all of this, and it is extremely overwhelming. Do I just talk to a navy recruiter? I've heard not to trust a single word they say unless it's in writing. Is there a navy ROTC recruiter at each school? I just have no idea.
  3. I've been looking into Navy ROTC schools in Texas, and the closest ones to home are in Austin. I've just been told that ROTC is for tuition and books only and not housing. Also, anyone have a recommendation for a Texas school? April in TX
  4. That's funny, I've been using Spelling Workout all along, but I've lately been reading of people liking other things better so I've been thinking of switching. Every week is a different lesson, and they cover a different rule each time. Every 6th lesson is a review. I guess we're used to it, but sometimes I think they're just memorizing for a test and not really learning to spell. It's so hard to know if I'm using the "perfect" curriculum for each child. :001_unsure: April
  5. Sorry, I don't think it would be boring, but I know my kids, and I think they need something a little lighter. I just don't have the time or concentration levels required to absorb all this right now. I have 6 kids, with 3 day care kids. Plus, it looks like it would take a full year, and they already have a US History credit. However, even if we go with Notgrass I don't think I would want to sell the SL books because they look so good. I do dream of reading them someday. Maybe I'll wake up.
  6. The more I look over this SL 400 (it's the Civics/Govt. "basic" from 2001), the more I think it's too much and looks boring. It took me awhile to accumulate everything I'd need, so I'm kind of frustrated thinking of not using it. Notgrass looks so much better now that I'm looking at the SL study guide. I never do very well making them discuss the questions with me. They pretty much just read the books without even looking at the notes. So, I'm thinking the (Not)grass is greener. You know? Has anyone else felt this way?
  7. I used Bob Jones for Algebra I and won't be using that one again. The only thing I found that they seem to have left out was an explanation for how they came up with some of their answers. This would have greatly helped me teach my kids. Instead, I had to pretty much figure out how they came up with some of the answers on my own, and I just don't have time for that. I have a Lial's book, but it looked like too much. I may pull that out and try with that next time. What I thought I would probably really do was go with Math U See. I'm using that for Algebra II this year, and if I like it, I'll probably use it for Alg I with my next kids.
