  1. I am so prepared I have read and reread all the documentation. I made sure we knew exactly what to do and what to bring. However, I thought the test was yesterday! I dropped my dd off and drove away! She called me a few minutes later, saying I got the date wrong. I think it was/is nerves on my part. Well, it was at least a good trial run. Today is the big day (yes I'm sure). Prayers for all.

I guess that's better than dropping her off a day late! Hope today goes well for her!

  2.

Now is the list perfect? No! But it is a perfect starting off point. ;)

So true!I was thinking about making my own list, but for now I think the best plan is to use this one.

Yesterday I put out two hot spots that had just become part of the background of the room. Every time I've walked in the room today I've been surprised at how much more space there is and how different the room feels.

(A cautionary tale to remind myself not to drag out piles of things to sort through when I don't have enough time to do it. Especially at the beginning of a school year! The books are not organized like I had plan, but they are better on the shelves in any order than in stacks on the floor by my desk!!)

  3. The countdown begins... (Well, not really...it's been going on for quite some time.   ;) )

I really wish so much didn't rest on one shot exams.

Steady nerves, steady pencils to the test takers. I hope they all wake up well and thinking clearly tomorrow.

I'll be happy when we're all posting that the test is over.  :cheers2:

  4. I think my goal is to trust my plans and not panic or start looking at other things when things get difficult. What I've planned for my son is what will work best for *him* so I need to just relax, watch his progress and not micro-manage.

Yes!  I had a moment (hours) of panic last week and had to talk myself through why we made the choices we did for the year. Growth isn't easy. Difficult times should be expected, but sometimes that's easy to forget and the panic sets in.

  5. I wish we could start over and we're only six weeks into the year! My goals are to

Try and relax and put some fun back into our lessons, in my quest to get things done, I've managed to remove a lot of the good things.

Be excited and rejoice when I see progress! Point out what he's doing right more than what he's not getting right.

Realizing there needs to be a change 6 weeks into the year is much better than realizing it 6 months into the year!

A great reminder about pointing out the good. It's so easy to overlook the good and focus on the bad.

  6. Sorry for another late posting. Saturday I woke up with such a sore throat that I immediately went back to the doctor. Turns out I had strep though it didn't show up on Friday. So I nursed myself to health and here I am. DH is away on a business trip starting today (ending Thursday). I am not flying again yet, and I can't tell you how it stinks when you see things you should do, but know you don't have the energy for it. Amoxicillian is doing wonders though. I feel a bit better with every pill. Makes me wonder if people died from strep throat in the past. However I hope that translates to me starting to fly tomorrow.

Sorry for the life story, but I thought everyone deserved a reason for why I was away.

I was wondering if you were feeling worse. Glad to hear you're on the path to wellness! I hope you continue to rest as often as possible. (Which I know may not be nearly as often as you'd like.)

  7.

So, this year, her schedule simply shows when she has online classes. It is set up just like a college schedule - where she has to fit her assignments for the week in between her live classes. So far, she's treating it like a disorganized college freshman does - and cramming her schoolwork in right before it is due while "enjoying" her time "off."

I tell myself that someday she'll learn her lesson. :confused1:  Right?

    Right?

    :leaving:

I keep telling myself that one of the benefits of online classes is learning to manage a college type schedule while parents are readily available to provide scaffolding and support. That realization helps.  (A little. On some days....  ;))

  8. This is our situation. I tried so hard to make weekends work free, but we still end up wrapping one thing or another and it usually takes longer than we want. Aops writing proofs for class come to mind. They are known on occasion to suck up entire Saturdays.

Much depends on your reasons for wanting weekends to be work free. Do you feel that there is not enough free time during the week? Is there too much work overall? I had to start looking at our weeks as pies rather than calendar grids. Thinking of pies automatically makes things better.  ;)

Are all the areas of importance getting a good slice of the pie? Academics, sleep, hygiene, nutrition, relationships, exercise, extracurriculars, etc.  If academics get more than a fair share of the pie, something needs to change with the proportions. If everything looks to be in healthy balance, it might be that a mindset shift is needed. Granted this may not work if there are religious or other set weekend expectations at play, but it's sometimes helpful to remember that every day is valuable and full of possibilities for fun, leisure, and restoration -- not just the weekends.

We're still tweaking our schedule and routines for the year, but it is quite possible that for us the pie is sweeter if at least a bit of homework/studying is done every day of the week.

  9. I think I like the hot bath and tea idea. I should make that my routine :)

In the winter, this is mine at least a few times a week. Other times during the year I love to read outside in the late evening. (I don't do this as often as I'd like, but I try to make it a priority.)

I usually have chamomile tea in the evening. Sometimes spiced apple cider, hot cocoa, or hot carob, but most usually an herbal blend tea with some combination of chamomile, rose, lavender, etc.

  10. My teen almost always does homework/studying on the weekends. She usually has two or three days during the week that she is in class for several hours in the morning and has commitments in the afternoon and/or evening. That combo leaves little time for studying. If she will be gone all weekend, she sometimes needs to skip one of her outside commitments during the week to get her schoolwork done.

She tries to have at least one weekend day when she doesn't need to do any work, but that depends on many factors, including stress levels and whims of the moment.
