Just a random curiosity of mine. I'll make this quick and easy with this fill-in-the-blank. I'm listing the same "thing" twice in case people quote and want to tell about more than one sibling set. :bigear::001_smile::bigear:

We're going with Saxon Grammar and Writing for grade 5 - 8.

We're trying to decide which year to go to Disney.
At what age is a kid too old to love Disney? Too young?
I've never been, so just wondering prime age range.

With all due respect, that is the most convoluted explanation I have ever read. I don't think anyone was going to give examples of people suspected of being gay....
How silly of me to assume that this ever occurs!!! You're right....NO ONE would ever ascribe her own opinion as to another's sexuality based on observations/third-party-opinions/gossip/etc. Thanks for reminding me!
-
My oldest is gay (not "claims to be", but IS). Her friend in youth group is transgender and is also the oldest in THAT family as well. The youth leaders daughter is also gay and the oldest in that family.
So, no. And they do not "claim to be". They are. I don't 'claim to be' heterosexual.
I used the word claim to denote that individual's self-described/pronouncement of his/her own sexuality. Finding out what that person HIMSELF/HERSELF CLAIMS about this is more of an accurate description/portrayal than third party observations/opinions of others on the subject, thus the use of the term neutral word "CLAIM." This is a subject about which many (including parents/teachers) can lend an opinion quite easily, so to me finding out a person's own CLAIM is an important distinction. So, when I ask people to think of people who personally claim to be gay/etc., I am, in effect, making this point of, "Don't give me examples of people that you think seem gay or others say that are gay....rather, please give me examples of those give their own personal testimony/CLAIM/ownership of being gay/transgender/etc. so that the example is credible/relevant/legitimate."

Did anyone else see that special on ABC Primetime a few nights ago about the transgender in children?
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/extraordinary-family-inside-transgender-world/story?id=14414656
If you didn't, it was about children who, at a very early age (preschool) show signs of preferring to be/act like the opposite gender than their birth gender. The two kids covered on the show were both boys and they were the 2nd born in their respective families (and, incidently, the youngest/last born as well). The first child covered (who's mom authored a childrens book called, "My Princess Boy") had an older brother who appeared to be about 4 years his elder. The second child covered had an older sister who looked to be about 2 years his elder. Anyway, the show didn't discuss birth order and the issue at hand, but it got me to thinking that, of the 4 people (males) I know well enough to know about their home life/birth order/etc. who claim to be gay (not necessarily trans-gender) that all 4 of them are 2nd born children. Also, 3 of the 4 I know have older brothers. I just thought it was an interesting thought and I wondered if anyone else had similar observations among people they know who claim to be gay/transgender/homosexual (i know these terms are not synonymous).
I'm curious if there is any data out there regarding what role, if any, do birth order and genders of siblings has on gender differentiation/assumption/preference in individuals who claim to be gay or transgender.
Can you share information regarding those you know of (know well enough to know family/birth order) who claim to be gay/transgender regarding their birth gender and birth order and the gender and birth order of their siblings?
(NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT share any personal names/location/or any info that could POSSIBLY reveal identities --- just general info please).
Any thoughts?:bigear:

(I don't know if this thread is even legal on here or not, but I'll give it a try; I figure if I keep it clean and anonymous it might be ok).

I'm curious as to when a woman experiences a decline in her sex drive(libido).
In the poll, the percentages refer to the PERCENT of your lifetime's MAXIMUM (Peak) sex drive/libido.
(For example, if your peak was age 21, then what percent of your age 21 sex drive do you have now?).
This poll is anonymous.
__________________________
I'm posting more than one threads to cover the several age ranges as the poll only allows 10 spots/options.
Thanks.
(BTW, I have 4 different polls from women aged 25-64, so if you're not in the age group and want to vote, there's a poll on here for you too). (I thought I was editting my thread post here...ooopsie).
-
Well, I am 45 so I assume you don't want our opinions. :tongue_smilie:
Oh no...I wrote on the first thread that I'd be making several polls to cover up to age 64. Just look for your age thread please.

(Also...I wrote on the first thread for 25-34 year olds that, if you're older than 64 and wish to chime in, please do. I just didn't
assume that there would by very many homeschool moms older than 64 on here to respond to a libido poll; and I assume
a decline in libido after age 64).

Huh, nothing for us "old ladies"? :D
I'm 43, and think I'm peaking right about now. It's really a shame too, since I think dh peaked about 20 years ago, when he was 26!
No...I'm working on it...I'm going to age 64ish with this inquiry -- just takes me a bit to do it (with kid interruptions esp).

(also...there are four of these polls going up to age 64 so if you're between age 25 - 64, I'd appreciate your vote!..and if you're over 64 and
want to add a comment, feel free to chime in....I just figured that there weren't likely too many homeschool moms over age 64 on here and I
assume a decline in sex drive after age 64).

I know that the K book says to keep page upright/straight when teaching print. Does this page position change with cursive or does it recommend keeping page upright/straight then as well?
Thanks
-
I settled this debate myself because I knew my child was not reading for the writing required in 1. So we're doing K but we're going to speed it up a smidge a try to do about 10 lessons a week so that by Christmas we're starting on 1. I knew he'd be ready for the concepts of 1, so I didn't want to wait until we began 1st grade in Aug 2012. Thus my speeding up math K and starting 1 in early December.

We have 2 indoor pets and they have (on the rare occasion) urinated on our floors. In our new home we're about to build, I know I'm not going with carpet for this and other reasons. I'm thinking about stained concrete but I've heard that pet teewee in absorbed in it and stinks permanantly (is this true even if it's properly sealed????).
I'm considering:
stained concrete, wood, or linoleum throughout.
(I dislike concrete tiles.....I know, its just me, but I just don't).
I want something pretty and pet friendly.
I'm going to have LOTS of large area rugs so whatever's under it won't be ALL one sees. My area rugs can be taken out and thoroughly cleaned, soaped, sprayed, sun dried, etc.
Any flooring suggestions?
Anyone on here with concrete floors and the occasional teewee from pet?

I made a batch of brownies. The original recipe said to pour the mixture in a 9x9 square pan for 20 to 25 minutes on 350 degrees. I made a DOUBLE batch and poured it into a 9.5 x 13. How do I change the cooking time now that I've thickened it (area wise)? Do I need to cover in foil part of the time?
I used a regular metal baking pan.
thanks.

Good suggestions from you all. Thanks!

My son (turned 5 two weeks ago), began chewing on the neck/collars of his teeshirts recently. Can't think of any new anxiety/issue or what brought this on, but he's chewing/deforming ALL of his shirts. Anyone experience this? Will this just pass or do I need to put some nasty tasty stuff on the collar or what? What's up with this? I don't see any new teeth either. How do I stop this habit? I even bought him a circular TEETHER and he'll use it when I bring it to his attention, but he prefers his collars. He'll have a huge wad in his mouth and it'll be so wet that you can hear the water being crunched out of it. By bedtime, the shirts are wet in the front. He stops when we tell him, but 15 minutes later he's gnawing away.:glare: HELP!!!

For those of you WW experts.....on the new Points Plus program, once a person reaches her goal, how make points do they "add back" (typically) for her to maintain. I know it varies somewhat, but as a general rule, do you know the number?
-
Thanks all. So, as is, it won't hold goats.
I confess I know little to nothing about goats. We're just considering buying this place and I'm trying to think of something to do with the pasture and the barn. Seems a shame just to mow it when it's so established for livestock. I was just trying to think of some animal that would keep the grass down and be low-maintainance. I don't think we're candidates for horses. I thought about maybe two cows. Just trying to think what I could do with it --
cows?
(someone mentioned sheep). sheep?
Hmmmmm?

If you are familiar with Saxon Grammar and Shurley Grammar....
in K-8 Curriculum Board
Posted
I'm thinking about Shurley Grammar 1st-4th and then switching to Saxon Grammar and Writing for 5th - 8th. I've heard of several complaints of a lot of repetition with Shurley and that we'll be ready to move on by 5th.
Anyone out there who has used/explored both of these programs who can give me a pros/cons and comparison of the two and why you went with one vs. the other?
