Glad I'm not the only one! I'm hoping it's just because it's too easy....and that it will be better when we get to the higher levels. We're still in Level 1!

When you finish up Rightstart B what level in MM and Singapore would a child start at??
Also, what grade level would you consider RS B?
Thanks!

I thought Math Mammoth was pretty much laid out for you? Why are you trying MM and Singapore together?
I'm not really using them together. I have tried them over the past month and the whole Asian thing is too different a concept for her.

I'm having a hard time settling on a math for my dd7. She's been in ps for k and 1st. This past year, her 1st grade year, her school used Houghton-Mifflin for math. She never struggled with it, however, she doesn't grasp it easily. She still doesn't have a solid foundation in math. At all.
I've been trying MM and Singapore. I think it's just so different from what she's used to.
So, I'm wondering if there is a math curriculum out there that is scripted that resembles OPGTR or FLL. We've been using both of those and it's so easy for me to teach her. Right now I think we're both dreading math and I know it's the one subject she needs the most help in. I have Abeka, but there is just sooo much on the page in the TM that I get overwhelmed. And I do not have any experience teaching so I feel like I can't just toss the manual and go with it.
Are there any scripted math curriculums out there?
So far...what's not working:
RSB
MM
Singapore
Abeka

I haven't had that issue.
No issues here either:001_smile:

The materials/content are top notch and the actual products themselves, are absolutely super quality and quite beautifully done.
The puppet is of high quality, the books are hard-bound and beautifully illustrated, the alphabet posters and letter/picture cards are sweetly done. Even the box that stores the cards is precious. I even appreciate the beautiful color palette that they selected to theme the program with. It is just good quality, beautiful stuff and I feel like I absolutely got what I paid for.

You can spend all the time in the world googling sample schedules and asking others how their days are scheduled but it is all time wasted. In my opinion!! What works for one family may not work for you. You just have to take it day to day until you see that you are getting into some kind of rhythm and keep that going until you see that you need to make some changes. Not only that, one day will always be different from the next.
:iagree:
We're just starting...and it is waaay too stressful for us to try to stick to a time oriented schedule. I just made a list of every subject that I want the kids to do that day and cross it off as I go. I'm not sure we will do it this way forever, but for now, it's working:D

My dd7 could use some extra practice with writing. I thought I saw SWB mention somewhere about no more than 3 or so sentences. Is that for one subject or daily???

Was what a deacon?
I think it is safe to assume Renee in FL is assuming you 'saw' an adult altar boy and that is why you're describing it...

I read through the posts of those who are are using curriculum for children around the level of my DD. I like to see which curriculums others think will work well together. I also like to see who has similar taste in curriculum as I do and see what other things they have picked to go with them. :)
:iagree:
I, myself, LOVE threads like these. Since it is my first year, I love seeing the types of curriculum out there. Although it might not contain pros and cons of curriculums...I can see a lot of different sigs and see how many dc they are schooling. I think what curriculum may work for an only, may not be the same that will work for a family like mine. I see no harm in it:)
That being said, we're still not 100% decided. We'll be using a mix of:
AAS
FLL
GWG
WWE
MM
SING

I received an email last night containing the full color cover page:001_smile:

I'm looking through it now, and it looks like the main one to purchase would me Smart About the Fifty States. Then there are 10 other read alouds...which seem to be pretty easy to find at the library.

I agree.Has anyone downloaded it yet? The first page is blank, and I was hoping for the full-color cover pages. I emailed them to see if I could get that. -
The new Elemental History is now available in download form:)

We're only about 2 weeks in...but I really like it so far. However, this is our first year, so I have nothing to compare it to...

I'm going to have to agree and say I don't think it's worth it. Is it fun? Yes...my ds4 likes it...however, he knows his letters, and most sounds. I do have 2 more coming up behind him that I can use it with so that helps justify the price.

I've been going crazy trying to decide what math to do with my dd7. She doesn't struggle with math...but things don't come easy either. Very average student. PLEASE take a look at these and tell me which one(s) to go with!! I have them all purchased already...

I could of wrote this myself today!!!:tongue_smilie:

Good. That's what I'm thinking! I know she can do more than 1 lesson a day willingly...so we'll just work on FLL1 during the summer and then whenever we finish we'll just ease into FLL2!
Thanks:D

Ok. I have both PR1 and OPGTR. As much as I want to like PR and start it...I am just having such a hard time getting going with it. I see OPGTR sitting on my shelf and can't help but think it would be soo much easier to start...then be so much more open and go. I do like teacher intensive programs...but the whole DVD thing is really making me feel like I should be doing something else. I like scripted...and open and go!
Anyone use both and have any thoughts on which one they liked more??
Tell me about McRuffy math!

I'm thinking about trying McRuffy color 1st grade for dd. 2nd grade looks a little too advanced for her.
