  1. You all just need to come here where there are two bakeries within a 7-minute walk from my house.  The croissants are hot in the morning and again at 4:30 and they always have pastries filled with ham and cheese, chocolate, cream, caramel, and all sorts of fruits.  Not to mention the best crusty rolls ever. And I bet they'd put peeps in anything if I asked nicely.  Which I wouldn't, since Peeps are of the devil.

Ohh, yes! The reason the chocolate croissants appeal to me so much is that they remind me of what I ate in Europe. Yum!

  2. I suppose I should not tell you that Peeps make the best darn S'mores…because the sugar on the outside caramelizes.  We used to make them in the toaster oven.  It was kind of disturbing to watch the little bunnies and chicks cook…but then once you took a bite, you got over it. :)

That wasn't helpful either. You don't even know me. Why are you trying to wreck my resolve not to eat junk???

    Thanks for the suggestions  ;)

  3. I like SW Duration, especially when it's 40% off. BM's Aura is lovely, but it's a bit tricky to paint with--sort of like spreading thin pudding. It's really, really nice paint, especially if you want a matte finish. It never goes 40% off as SW does (maybe this weekend?), so SW Duration generally wins.

We went to SW last night and bought the trim and ceiling paint and bought 4 gallons of untinted paint to take advantage of the sale. We saved a ton! Still working on my colors though....

Thanks to whomever mentioned buying untinted paint (I think it was in the other thread).  :)

  4. Stay away from Behr for dark/bright colors, my red bedroom took 7 coats to cover- with primer! Meanwhile I used Sico red in my ds bedroom and it covered in 2!

Thanks! I'm wondering if that is the cause of the varied reviews about Behr and Valspar. Perhaps they work better for light colors and lighter coverage?

  5.

Just be sure to pick a store that is within a reasonable distance from your house. You will be making a lot of trips!  Expect to pay a cringe-worthy amount for decent paint.

Enjoy the fresh and new look of your house. :)

No kidding! It's ridiculous just going back and forth for samples.

  6. We just got done painting a rental house last week. We have been using Olympic One Semi Gloss on all of our rental houses. My former tenant painted a room HOT PINK! This Olympic One pretty much covered it in one coat. We had to just touch up over that. We do semi gloss in rentals because I am not sure what the heck happens with my walls there. In our house, we generally use satin. We have also used behr with good results, but now only shop at lowes because of location and discount with credit card.

We had a hot pink closet. Gross!

    Thanks for the info.

Thanks for that warning! We (probably DH!) are doing the painting ourselves so that is very good to know.

  8. I knew a woman whose last name was Smith and she said that since her first name was kind of boring, too, she had hopes of marrying someone with an interesting last name. No such luck. So then she planned to choose uncommon names for their dc. But they decided to adopt an older sibling group and the dc already came with names. :D

I had a professor with a very common first name whose last name was Smith. All of his children have unique names or unique spelling, and two middle names  :)

  9. My friend and I started a meal planning challenge at the beginning of the year. She says it has changed her life  :001_smile: We both use themes, to some extent. For example, I have Mexican, Crockpot, Soup, and Breakfast each week, but my actual meal is not set in stone. This has worked well for me. My friend has different themes, like a weekly pizza night.

    HTH!

  10. I am hosting a book discussion group in my home for couples of young children. I have offered decaf and a variety of hot teas and had several people each time who were disappointed about the decaf. I don't have the logistics to serve both either. The people who preferred regular coffee either drank the decaf or had tea, so they weren't totally out of luck.

  11. I'm a homeschool graduate myself and I originally joined this forum when I was researching curricula for a college project. I do intend to homeschool, but that's still years away. I hang out sometimes because I like homeschoolers and I sometimes share my perspective as a graduate. My mom has been on here for years, but doesn't post much lately. (Hi Mom!!)

  12. Have your tried a Pioneer Woman cookbook? Her step by step pictures are annoying for some, but might be nice for reference. You could always try recipes from her blog, first.

Also, what if you invite your MIL to your house? You may both be more comfortable  :001_smile:

  13. I want to do this! I have an 8 month old and I'm not sure I can pull it off right now. Maybe this summer when I can get out of the house more.... I tend to eat more when I'm in the house all day long, but if I'm out, I don't.
