I've heard several people say this, but I don't buy it. I do think that maybe long term snow days may go away in some areas. Maybe you won't get a snow week anymore after a big storm. But just from a practical perspective, kids are going to go back eventually - even if online learning expands, this is not going to be a permanent state of things. And it's simply not practical to shift to virtual classrooms for a single day or two in most places. It doesn't work as well overall, some kids still lack access, when there's snow day weather there's more likely to be internet outages and power outages, coming up with a schedule for an individual day will take work... I just think snow days will continue to exist in various forms in most places.

The bolded.  Accessability is problem in many communities.  For some kids their phone is their only wifi connection and it's nearly impossible to write a paper or do a test on your phone.  Some famillies have one computer in their household.  Parents & multiple children sharing it.

  2. I visit my family member's graves every so often.  Most of them are a short drive away.   I'd like to make it more of a habit, but its not part of my family's tradition so I didn't grow up doing it.  It is very much part of my religious tradition.

I recently found my great grandmother's grave in a completely different cemetary.  She died young as a result of a gunshot wound and never saw all her 5 kids grow up.  The family were immigrants and had no money so her grave is probably in the cheapest spot and very simple.  I felt a very special connection to her.

I usually say a prayer at the grave when I go.

I'm not currently eating keto, but I'm considering starting again. All the recipes are motivating me!

When I did eat keto, I needed simple dishes with relatively few ingredients but also big on flavor. Rubs and sauces saved me. My favorite rub is from this recipe for sirloin tip roast, but I have used it on other meats.

Both types of north Alabama BBQ sauces are keto friendly. Here is a link to a recipe for a vinegar based sauce. Just omit the brown sugar. It doesn't need it. Actually, true N Al pulled pork doesn't even have butter in the sauce, so you can cut that out too if you are moderating fat. I personally really like the butter in it. 🙂 You don't have to have a smoker either--a slow cooker will do. Just scale down the recipe.

White BBQ sauce is just mayo, cider vinegar, black pepper to taste (pretty good bit), a splash of water, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Most recipes online have a bunch of unnecessary ingredients. Just mix it to a pourable consistency. Yummy on grilled or roasted chicken. We also eat it at Thanksgiving with roasted turkey.

Thank you!   I also prefer simple to make.   Thanks for the rub recipe. Tonight I made the Brocolli Cheese Soup mentioned upthread.  It was delicious.   I paired it with a new recipe for Keto bread by HeavenlyFan (she's Vegan Keto).   It was a bit more work than I prefer and was just okay.  I may try to tweek it more because the consistency was similar to real bread (it had yeast), but it was bland.

I'm so envious of folks who lose copious amounts of weight on keto. I have Hashi's, which is mostly under control with meds, but the one thing that has never recovered is my metabolism. 😞

This time I am struggling to lose weight too.  I've lost 10lbs since July 🤔  I have Hashis and I'm overr 55 so I know those two things are major contributors.  However, I have lost inches and puffyness.  My jeans are loose and I can wear some rings I haven't worn in years.   I also feel much better and I'm starting to have a better sleep cycle.   After I turned 50 it seems like everything takes longer.

    Thank you Debbi!

I will definitely check out all the recommended information listed.

So far, I am enjoying the food and not missing the carbs, but I am feeling the headachy-possible keto flu-at the moment.

Do you possibly have a liquid stevia recommendation for adding to hot tea?

    Thanks!

I like Sweet Drops brand and NatriSweet liquid Stevia.  I have caramel flavored.

I use orange flavored stevia drops to make orange flavored cheesecake fluff.  Yum.

Also, I reccomend you get several different flavored extracts - such as orange, maple, lemon, peppermint... any of your favorite flavors.  It will enhance your sweet recipes without adding the extra carbs of the real thing.

The keto flu is a real thing.  Hang in there... and have lots of snacks on hand.  Don't worry about interminted fasting until you're well under way with Keto.  I'm sure it will come up in some of the things you're studying.

Am I the only one who this song drives me crazy?  Like, I *WANT* to like it.  But especially when it's sung by a man, it just sounds insulting and man-splaining.  And also, I want to yell at the radio, "YES!!!!  Yes, she knew!  It's RIGHT THERE in the Magnificat in Luke 1: 46-55!!!"

I shouldn't complain.  It's still better than "Christmas Shoes."

    But still.

I dislike the song very much.  I agree.... I want to yell at the radio... "Well, Duh... yes she knew you idiot....Read Luke please."

  7. I was LC starting in 2002.  I stuck with it for many years but in 2006 I started falling off the wagon.  I would go back to it whenver my weight would creep up without any issues.  So, I would say I was *mostly* LC until about 2014-15 or so.  Then I slowly stopped.  I put on about 20lbs. mostly around my tummy.  I was also having issues with Hashis - and Keto is usually suggested for Hashi's as a first line defense.  It doesn't always help but it usually helps.

Just before the lockdown I knew I needed to do something, but I didn't really get started in earnest until this summer.  At first I was going to do Keto then SouthBeach, but after reading about different studies I decided to stay with Keto.

Having YTers has been a big change from my previous LC lifestyle.  I find they all offer something different.

    I do like:

2 Fit Docs - I really like their content and Dr. Becky has a lot of good videos pertaining to LC studies.

Serious Keto - down home and relaxed.

Highfalutin' Low Carb - he has weekly recipe comparisions where he tests popular Keto recipes and gives his opinions.

Keto Focus - Keto mom with great recipes

Dr. Cywes the Carb Addiction Dr. (although he can be a little salty)

Ginger Keto in the UK.   She has some good content about Fat (the newer stuff).  But it can be intense.  She also has non tolerance for anyone who disagrees with her... so I had to walk away for a while... but watch her stuff about fat and calories.

Ketolicious Life-  is more day-in-the life of a keto mom. There's lots of those.

Violet Rivera - the Keto Psychologist - I like the way she discusses the psychology of the lifestyle changes related to Keto, of course.

I also enjoy Dr. Eric Berg's short videos.  But, he's one that sells his own stuff so I am mindful of that too.

I just stuck with MyfitnessPal because I've had it for years.  I tried CarbManager, but I found it difficult to switch.  Besides, I already had a lot of recipes and things already plugged into MyFitnessPal.

I would encourage you not to buy into anything that wants to sell you Keto menus, etc. at first.  There's a lot of free content available online and it's super easy to find recipes online.  AFter a few months if you want to support someone or feel you need some expert advice, then go that route... but I just think there's so many content makers "selling Keto for beginners" that is unnessessary.

I'll dig into that a bit and see what I can find out.

I suspect it has to do with the fact that prior to Noah humans eat Vegetarian or vegan.   Look at Genesis 9 - early on???  I wonder if Jewish people interpret it the same way as some Christian do.

  9. I eat vegetarian/pescatarian about 50% of the year due to religious practices.

Otherwise, I'm full Keto and I eat low carb vegetarian during Lent & Advent.

I have never been drawn to vegetariansm for moral reasons.   I care about the environment, I just disagree with vegetarians about what the  problem is.  I don't like mass-production though and try to get locally sourced meats whenever I can.

Since I've done a deep dive into Keto and intermittent fasting for my health I suspect I'd disagree that vegetariansm is more healthy.  But, I think you can find studies that support both POVs.  - which is frustrating.   Find info about Dr. Jason Fung.  he talks a lot about intermittent fasting, insulin, and the rise of diseases in the 20th century.

Having said all that, I also do not think there is a one size fits all when it comes to diets.  Every person's body reacts differently to different ways of eating.  Add in things like allergies and auto-immune diseases and it's really such a personal experience.  YMMV.

  10. I've been eyeing them myself but wondered about the cleanup for the bigger ones (Breville and Ninja).  It seems like a toaster oven on steriods.  I used to have a TO and the bottom was easy to clean because you just pulled out the tray and washed but the rest of the oven was a PIA.  I'm wondering if there's grease splatters everywhere.
