  1. And in answer to the OP's question, I love our Kindles. I haven't looked at the Amazon reviews lately, but when I was ordering ours, almost all of the 1 and 2 star reviews were from people who were upset that they hadn't gotten their Kindles yet--even though it clearly stated that they were backordered and had said that for weeks (I'd been pondering getting one for a while and watched the backorder time grow as I waited).

    Thanks!

  2. If being able to borrow library books is important to him, first find out if your library system (or any others in your state that you might be able to join) even have the capability. Not all libraries have ebooks, in fact many do not. Those that do often have a small selection, and the wait can be as long as the wait for a physical book.

I've heard of people who bought both the Kindle and a Sony or other inexpensive reader, so they can have the best of both worlds. Our budget wouldn't allow us to do that, so I just made a choice (dh asked me which ereader I wanted) based on what worked for me. Have you talked to your dh about it, or are you trying to completely surprise him?

I'm trying to surprise him. I doubt access to library e-books would be top on the list. He is more into church history and the Reformation right now. I did check...and, our library has e-book capability.

  3. If your library has a subscription to Overdrive, and you think your husband might want to check out and download ebooks from the library, consider a different e-reader. Kobo, Nook, and Sony all play nice with Overdrive, but Kindle doesn't.

The Kindle's lack of library ebook support was a deal breaker for me, and I preferred the Sony's touch screen over the Kindle's keyboard. I've had my Sony Reader for a little over a month, and I've already checked out and read over a dozen library ebooks. :)

Thanks. I'll take a look at those, too.

  4. I was considering buying a Kindle 3G for my hubby for his birthday...but, there are quite a few lower reviews on Amazon regarding problems. I understand that I have to put it into perspective here...out of 13,000 reviews...only 1200+ are a 1-3 star. However, I'd like some opinions from anyone here who has one.

I have three friends that have the Wi-Fi...but, not the 3G and they love theirs. Of course, I haven't asked if they've had any problems since I hadn't really done any research on them till recently.

    Thanks!

  5. If you "reply" to one of her emails, does she get it?

Could it possibly be that you have a minor typo in your address book that you've missed? That happened between two of my family members.

Have her check her spam and trash folders - I have occasionally found legit emails there that were from my friends.

No, she is not getting "reply" responses from me. No, I don't have a typo. She has had the same e-mail address since she got a computer...and, I have it saved in my address book. it's the same one I always use. I have asked her to check her spam and trash folders...but, I'm not sure she knows how to do that.

    Thanks!

  6. Do you ever have issues getting e-mails from people? My aunt has a Juno e-mail account...and, in the past 2-3 weeks...she has not been getting any of my e-mails. However, she can send them to me and I receive them. We can't figure out if the issue is on our end or her end.

My other friends and family members are getting everything I send, but they do not have Juno accounts.

    Any help?

    Thanks!

  7. I made them last year frying them in oil on top of the stove. It was a bit of a mess, but my family sang my praises for days! They still ask me when I'm going to make them, again!

Here is the recipe I used:

    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/A-Plus-Fair-Corn-Dogs/Detail.aspx

Make sure to read the tips / reviews on using a cup for dipping the hot dogs...cutting the hot dogs in half before dipping, etc. Also, I followed someone's suggestion about rolling the dogs in flour (or corn starch) before dipping. Also, I did not use as much oil as was called for in the recipe.

  8. Yes. Since I was starting the program with my girls, also...I decided it would be easier to do it with all three of them at the same time. Also, I knew my son needed to start at the beginning to get all the spelling rules.

I told him the first level was going to be very easy for him...but, he needed the foundation for the program. I think the fact that he was very successful with the first level helped his confidence, also.

If I had been doing it with just him, I think we would have finished that first level in one month. It took closer to two months since I was also doing it with my younger girls.

I have a feeling there will come a time when I have to move forward with him and slow it down for my girls...but, we'll see.

    I hope that helps!

  9. Does anyone know if Target will be carrying the Lego Harry Potter Daigon Alley set? I've asked at our local Target store...plus, I even called Lego to ask. Target had no idea...and, the Lego rep said, "...(pause)...MAYbe. However, we can't assure you their price would not be higher than the Lego On-line Store."

Now, to me...that pause with the "maybe" answer meant "yes." But, I could be reading into his answer. I know Target carried all the other sets... ??

Does anyone know for sure? I just hate spending the money on shipping if Target will carry it for the same price. My son is chomping at the bit to get that set!

    Thanks!
