  1. OK, so what I understand is that I could be teaching the girls two programs each day or I could view Miquon as a way to get a more thorough math teaching education. I love RightStart... it's been perfect for my two girls and we're cranking along nicely. We do the lessons and play the games at home but there is one day each week when we do school out & about. I've been toting along our stuff or just picking a game to play but I think a worksheet would be more convenient. Plus the girls like the simplicity of a worksheet sometimes. That's the impetus for supplementing RightStart. So often I see RightStart and Miquon mentioned together that I figured they were the best fit. I'm all about reading teacher's manuals that help me teach, so I think we might dive right in to the whole thing. I'll just present as much of the information I think they need to work through the workbook and rely on RightStart for the foundation. Thanks all!
  2. OKay, now I'm more confused. Teacher's guide is needed to understand the directions on the worksheet? Lab sheet annotations are how to present concepts? If you supplement RS with Miquon, how do you keep from working two programs every day? Or do you? Thanks, Kelli
  3. If you supplement RightStart with Miquon, do you buy the teacher's manual or is it explanatory enough on it's own? Also, if we're about 1/4 into RightStart B, should we still start out with the orange book? Thanks! Kelli
  4. Does anyone have a recommendation for a Greek curriculum that goes beyond Song School but that is spoken, rather than written? We started listening to the Song School Greek CD and my girls love it and want to progress to more phrases and vocabulary. They're still learning to write legibly in English, so we haven't done the Greek book portion of Song School Greek. I'd love to find something that has conversational Greek on CD. Something that is geared toward daily life would be great. Thanks! Kelli
  5. I just went through the summer/fall clothing transition & I limit the number of items each child has so that our laundry doesn't get out of control. I have three girls so their clothes include dresses, etc. Each girl has: three play dresses three skirts two trousers/jeans six long-sleeved shirts two short-sleeved shirts two pairs of shorts two church dresses two pairs of tights/leggings a pair of dress shoes a pair of sneakers a pair of mary janes one swim suit one fleece coat one warm sweater We live in a warm climate so that's all we'll need until after the new year. I also put a few extras (long-sleeves for short, sweatpants for the shorts) for the rest of the winter in one bin so I can pull it out when it actually gets cold. Good luck with the inventory management! Kelli
  6. Hi all, If you have used Story of the World through two cycles, what did you do the second time around? Is there a second set of books for grades 5-8? Or did you use the same book & activities as the spine and substitute more difficult readings? Thanks! Kelli
  7. Hi! I'm planning out lessons for the fall & my kids will be onto Getty Dubay Book B in a few months. I'd like to figure out how long it will take them to complete the book but I can't find a picture of the table of contents. If anyone has that book, would you mind sharing the number of lessons or the number of families (if it's arranged in the same way as A)? Thanks! Kelli
  8. Okay, hitting "purchase"! Thanks!
  9. Thanks! And did you get the math card games book or are they covered in the textbook?
  10. I'm purchasing Right Start Level B for my kindergartener and first grader to both use. I know I'll need an extra workbook & I'm thinking of buying a second abacus, but I don't know if there are other manipulatives that would be good to have in duplicate. Anyone have an opinion? (BTW, I'm right on the cusp of free shipping, so any additions would be free to me) Thanks! Kelli
  11. Being alone does help her to calm down, but what do I do when she refuses to go be alone? She was literally clinging desperately to me, refusing to let me stand up until I said I'd go look at the ingredients in her breakfast toast. I have a five year old who has very big feelings about things. I think she works herself into a tizzy & doesn't have the maturity to pull herself out yet. I try to work with her on taking deep breaths, standing with her feet firmly on the floor, scrunching her shoulders up and letting them go, etc. It really helps short-circuit the crying/flailing/clinging. I don't want to minimize her feelings but I love having a way to help her move past them more quickly. -K
