  1. My husband has rotating shifts.  So, half the week he isn't here.  He cooks at work instead.  We never eat meat unless he is here.  He works really hard now and insists he needs meat :glare:   I hate cooking meat.  So, I might throw a cheap pack of thighs in the oven and cover them with barbecue sauce.  I made meatloaf and he liked that...of course it was bacon covered.

We have to cut our budget somewhere.  We don't qualify for food stamps.  Meat is expensive.  I usually budget $10 for dinner for our family.  So, if he wants a pack of meat and it costs 7-10 that ruins my budget.

Hit me when some recipes please.  Casseroles and crockpot stuff would be awesome.  Things that you could freeze in microwave portions would be awesomer.

  2. When you open a daycare, you can choose to accept payments from the Gov't to pay for the cost of foods for children.  But, everyone must eat those foods unless they have dietary restrictions which must be recognized by a health care provider.  If you want to send food with your kids, then you need to choose a child care that does not accept those gov't payments.

  3. We have had a rough last few years and a huge move.  I even tried to convince all the kids to go to public school  I need to make homeschool easier on me.  I do have some special needs.  So, my I have to keep after my oldest and I have to sit and do all schoolwork with my 3rd child.  My younger two just need to have some time with me.  And, the stress of the last 6 years has caught up with me.  I have been trying to figure out exactly where our difficulties are.

I am interested in using SOS for Science for the oldest two.  They use Apologia currently and they won't get it done.  The only way is for me to do it with them.  I don't have it in me anymore. I just don't.

What will I have to do with SOS?  Does it check everything?  Do they still fill out lab reports?

  4. I love this split pea soup. I just use regular slices mushrooms.

My potato soup is Yukon golds, onion, garlic, corn, canned coconut milk, veggie broth.

Taco soup is good and it is my pantry meal. Red beans, black beans, hominey, veggie broth, canned tomatoes etc. in the crockpot all day. Serve with tortilla chips, avocado etc

  5. When my son was in school they didn't think there was anything "wrong" with him. I was told many times that he didn't need any therapy besides minor speech therapy. His speech therapists told me point blank I was wrong that she had professionally worked with children for blah blah years.

But, when at home or getting ready for school it was horrid. Someone told me later that many spectrum kids are on their best behavior in public.

The second time we tried ps he would fall apart the minute he got home and be so tired.

I don't know what is up with your nephew. But, I would say you are awesome sauce and are giving him a great and safe place for himself.

  6. When i was a child, we lived in TN near Ft. Campbell. The previous occupant in our house had died during one of the runs they did in full gear for the First Airbone. We found that out much later from a neighbor.

We often heard a man in combat books walking from the back of the house on the living area and it was when we would be sitting there.

We knew that sound because it was the same sound my Dad would make just heavier like if he had a backpack on.

Other things have happened to me and I might think I was a little looney. But, they happened.

My mom thinks that some people and some families are somehow more sensitive to that world. We are Christians. Not sure what it is. I often wonder if something like purgatory (I gre up Catholic but am no longer) exists where people are just hanging out.

As a child I often wondered if it would be lonely and that is why they do what they can to just say hi.

  7. We finally have our own insurance. But, it looks like they won't cover orthotics and genetic testing. But, the state will.

It just seems crazy to me that after all this hard work and money we put into we are going to have to do state insurance again. We used it in our previous state. It was really nice. But, my husband was so proud to get our own.

  8. I love KONOS albeit I am way more relaxed than most people when I use it. I only pick easy activities and read a bunch of books or assign reading. You can do a bulletin board or poster during the unit to collect bits and drawings and photos.

My kids adore SOTW on Audio. Just listen in the car and put it on for when you are doing something like making lunch and they are all nearby.

  9. I am not good just sticking to something. We have tried unit studies, unschooling, Waldorf, and TWTM. This year I think I am doing Ambleside with the oldest, TWTM with next child, my third child is mostly TWTM but I am seriously considering doing KONOS again with the last three. If you ask my kids where they learned the most, they would say KONOS and STOW audio.

I am going back to MUS for Math which I used for the first 6 years. I was using Teaching Textbooks but I think I just prefer MUS.

  10. I actually did end up getting planners this year. I wasn't going to because planning ends up being a big failure.

So if I made plans on my computer for the year or quarter, printed those and then just filled out the planners by week...might that help.

I am having a really difficult time. I need some help. I am going on year 11 and I am supremely frustrated.
