  1. We are starting up more formal stuff today. My niece came for the summer and I didn't keep track of anything.

I got Discovery Streaming and hope to use it a lot this year. I am coming up with more computer based stuff, as well.

This is the year I admit who I am. This is year I embrace our learning and choose to not be ashamed of our journey.

  2. My phone is super helpful to keeping me on track. We are just starting back to school. So far, I made a notebook for each kid in Evernote and a note for the month. I just plan to keep track of what books they do, shows watched etc. Plus, if they finished a book. I don't really have to answer to anyone and we are on the unschool side of the spectrum.

    Just curious :)

  3. Taco bar

    Potato bar

Enchiladas (my favorite are the pumpkin ones from Everyday foods. Just use whole black beans instead of chicken and omit cheese.)

Potato soup (Saute onion and garlic. Add diced potato. Cover with canned coconut milk. Cook till tender adding some water or gluten free vegan broth if liquid gets low. Add frozen corn and canned green chilies and cook till warm.)

    Rice and beans

    Salad bar

  4. The problem is the father/husband. I can't imagine my Dad kicking me out and keeping his new wife and her son in the house. That's a lot of pain no matter who you are. She should report the email to the girls therapist. Then she should ask her husband to leave. She needs out of that family. None of them are healthy.

  5. I really never read anything from John Holt that said my children shouldn't use a curriculum.  It bugs me to no end that there are unschoolers who see curriculum as a bad thing.  My children do use curriculum.  But, it is their choice.  We find things that work for them.  They help create their life and their learning. My children who want to go onto University do need fulfill those requirements.  I am not creative enough to help them do Algebra without a curriculum.

I do let my children decide their bedtimes and mealtimes for the most part.  Like I said we have some pretty crazy dynamics in our home.  My husband works away from home for 1 week and then back for 1 week.  Prior to this summer he lived in a completely different state from us for 18 months.

  6. Well, I came here because although Classical ala TWTM sounds idea it doesn't work well in our family. Our dynamics and personalities tend to default to an unschooling lifestyle. But, I keep TWTM ideas when I suggest, navigate, and encourage them towards subjects. Does that help?

I am definitely not a Sandra Dodd unschooler. I adore John Holt.

  7. I am the one who answered 20.  Feel free to pm me if you need to discuss that or get a load of your chest.  He needs that time.  My next son will be on track to graduate at 18 but I am certainly not enforcing that.  I wish more children had time to grow prior to University.  I get some flack for that.  But, I was an adult at a major University.  Those were children and they were not ready to be there and deal with all those adult challenges.  I had many of them tell me they wish they had been home educated.

  8. My dh got a laptop from the local CC.  The Windows won't update for us because it must be a copy licensed to the CC.  Anywhooooo.....

I am thinking it would be easier to use Ubuntu or Linux.  I like the look of Ubuntu.  Any thoughts or suggestions or preferences or......

  9. I moved from Western Washington to Montana.  It is so dry here, plus the heat going all the time.  My lips were horrible and my feet are cracking.  I have always had beautiful feet.  I have Rosacea that I keep pretty good control on.  If I don't it gets out of hand.  I cannot have my cheeks start to crack or I will become a mess.

I got a humidifier for the house and that is huge.  I am sensitive to smells and fragrance.  I get migraines from a lot of things.  I like Kiss My Face, Aveeno, Alba, and Neutrogena products.  I am using up the last of my Trader Joes Moisturizer.  It has a black lid.  I have no idea who makes it.  Usually I can figure out who makes a product for Trader Joes.

You can, also, try almond, sesame or extra virgin olive oil at night.  You can even massage it into your dry face, like you are washing your skin.  Then rinse lightly with a warm towel.  Then apply some more.  Just do it enough prior to bedtime so you don't mess up your pillow case.  Extra Virgin Olive Oil is so much better than coconut oil on my skin.  Coconut oil seems to make me drier and I think that is probably my rosacea.

  10. If Christmas lights make you happy, then put them somewhere all year long.  You can put a wad of them inside of a glass vase or hanging lantern. You can put them in the space above your kitchen cabinets.  You can staple them around windows.  You can put them out on the porch.

I downloaded Homeschool Tracker in November and it is so helpful.  So, I think I am going to get some more of their work on that.
