  1. Give them a call. I purchased all four years of Classic from them (before it was even called Classic!), and they gave me a discount on the new version. I ended up getting print plus digital because I wanted the convenience of digital plus the "offline" handiness of print. :tongue_smilie:

  2. That's pretty interesting...I've never seen a timeline with it listed that way. I'm a fence sitter when it comes to young/old earth stuff. When I started homeschooling my DD there wasn't any young earth stuff. Fourteen years later my son was born, and suddenly there's a big broo-ha-ha that I never knew about. I'm behind the times when it comes to the creation/beginning of the world timelines. Heck, I'm still trying to figure out where dinosaurs fit into the whole thing.... *lol*

  3. DS got a *terrible* burn just at the beginning of summer. He was at a splash birthday party, and for some insane reason took off his swim shirt. He's very pale because we usually avoid midday sun, and his little shoulders and neck were toasted.

I usually avoid sunscreen too, unless we're going to be out in the midday sun at the pool or zoo. I don't like slathering chemicals onto our skin unless absolutely necessary. Plus, I've been low in Vit. D for about a year and need exposure. I did, however, forget to put some on the top of my ears while visiting the Grand Canyon earlier this year, and practically blistered my ears. OUCH!

  4. I'm having to constantly tell my son to not put his Legos and other small toys in his mouth. Sometimes it's because he's using his teeth to pull apart the bricks, even though he has two brick separators right at hand. He's even swallowed a brick! :svengo: I had to tell him 5 -6 times just last night to take his Playmobil toys out of his mouth, he was just holding them while I was reading to him. Ugh...

He doesn't chew anything else, clothes, hair, etc. And he rarely put things in his mouth as a baby/toddler. So why is he doing this now? He's not been diagnosed with anything, although I have noticed that lately he's sometimes acted a bit sensitive to loud noises. Nothing extreme, just putting his hands over his ears when he thinks something is loud.

    Ideas?

  5. The new Well Planned Day software is eventually supposed to have apps that will allow you to use it on the go. I purchased the Beta, and honestly....I'm not too impressed so far. Nothing really works.

That said, if they are able to get everything working by August like they have been promising, it seems like it will be pretty awesome.

I have been experimenting with the Paperless app, that someone else on here mentioned. If you are a "do the next thing" type teacher you might like it. It's a to-do app, doesn't sync yet (phooey), but it does have a lot of flexibility for adding notes, etc.

Basically I add each lesson (plus notes) as an "item," then I can just go down the list each day and do the next lesson. I don't have to worry about dates or bumping...just doing the next lesson on the list. HTH!

  6. I've had my son using a binder for several years. We call it his "Hero" binder. Hero stands for "have everything ready and organized." :D

It's a view binder, and I design a new cover for him every year. It always has HERO on it somewhere, and this last year I was able to find a cartoon boy that looked just like him wearing a superhero costume. It was cute! My ds hasn't been into making his own cover, so I've been doing it for him. One of these days maybe he'll want to do it himself. :tongue_smilie:

  7. Well hey now....I just figured it out!

If you hover over "Shop by Department" a menu will drop down. The first item on the list is "Unlimited Instant Videos." When you hover over that, a side menu will pop out, and the first item on that is "Prime Instant Videos." Click on that, and it takes you to all the freebies.

BUT!!! They now have a "add to watchlist" feature on the video's page that you can manage from your computer AND is now available on their Roku Amazon channel! I just tried it out and it worked perfectly. Huzzah! :hurray:

  8. I made a wishlist of all the stuff I wanted to watch ... that works as my queue. But I don't know if the Roku has access to your wishlists?

So you can tell what is Prime (free) from the Amazon website? I haven't been able to figure out how to do that yet. (I'm usually too busy buying crafts, office supplies or books. *lol*)

  9. It's tough because it feels like there is so little you can do currently with some of the functions, that I don't even know where to start with suggestions. I feel like I'm brainstorming how the product should actually work instead of naming the things that I'd like to see finetuned. And with the continued delays in things being fixed or implemented, I wonder whether I should bother to point out that certain things aren't working right now. Is the thing I'm having trouble with even going to be there after the next round of improvements?

    :iagree:

  10. I can't even tell you how many years we have been Prime members. I've shared my account with my DD too. I've used it to send gifts to family far away, and since shipping is free I often have the item gift wrapped.

I do have a question about streaming.... I have a Roku, but does Amazon not have a que like Netflix? I rarely stream anything because it's such a pain to surf the Roku looking for stuff. Any hints, tips or idea?

  11. Too many have come here posting about how they should have gotten the bigger ipod/ipad because they didn't think they'd use that much memory since apps don't take up that much.

It's always better to have too much room than to not have enough for what you want to use.

    :iagree:

My new iPad3 has 64G, even though I never used up all the space on my iPad2 that had 32G. With more and more apps being developed every day, and more ebooks, PDFs, worksheets and curriculum that can be used in place of paper, I can see available space filling up faster in the near future.

  12. I only have one child (7yr old) I'm hsing, and just about everything we do is "mom intensive." I have a modified workbox set up that's worked well for us. I use some IKEA mesh metal magazine holders that I used to store each subject. Most of my curriculum isn't workbook based, so I don't have many worksheets.

We usually just go in order, grabbing the next holder off the bookshelf as we go along. Sometimes DS gets bored going in the same order every day so I let him pick the next one from time to time. I don't do any of the velcro numbering systems or tracking, perhaps because we do basically everything together.

  13. Adults - yes. (I don't think I ticked the right boxes in the poll) I made my DH go in for a well visit, because he never goes to the doctor. His last complete physical was when he got out of the Navy about 20 yrs ago. :001_huh: They did find some blood and ordered a colonoscopy, which fortunately turned out to be nothing serious.

I have other medical issues I deal with daily, so I go once a year for blood work and physical. My doctor has caught borderline BP issues, and very low Vit. D levels. He also ordered baseline bone density scans since I'm medically post-menopausal, and they've discovered a bit of bone loss for my age. None of these are particularly serious, but I'm glad my doctor tries to keep us in good working order. ;)

  14. I have one because I thought it would help with writing on the iPad, but it really didn't help that much at all. Maybe I'm just not a stylus person. Or perhaps I'm too use to the pointy plastic ones instead of the rubber smooshy ones the iPad needs.

Does she need it for a specific app? I've tried several and like Notability the best for filling out forms, taking notes and working with PDF files. Using the pinching motion, you can enlarge the screen making it very easy to fill in forms.

  15. When you pulled it off the frame, does the case still look good? I love everything about the gumdrop one except the screen protector. If I knew I'd have the option of taking the screen protector off if I don't like it, I think it's the one I'd go with.

At first I tried it without the frame holding the screen protector, but it let a lot of dust in at the edges. I was able to pull the plastic protector off the back of the frame because it was glued down, and popped the empty frame back in. It looks more polished, and helps protect the screen because of the "lip" it makes, IMO. Dust still eventually works it's way underneath (we have lots of pets), but I really like the grab-and-go function of the case. I take my iPad with me EVERYWHERE. I don't have a smart phone, so my iPad has become my brain. *lol*

  16. A friend of mine is hosting a virtual "party", and I'm considering getting a few things. Is anyone familiar with Thirty One Gifts? I saw a blog page where someone was using their utility tote sort of like a desk apprentice. I'm curious if anyone here has done something similar, and if they recommended their products.

I'm normally not a party person, and I've never seen any of these products in person. With tax and shipping my order is starting to be a bit expensive, and I'm worried about ending up with an expensive mistake. Thanks!!

  17. I've tried three different cases over the last couple of years. I really love my new GumDrop Drop Series Case that we got for my iPad 3. I liked it so much I got one for my DH too, who inherited my iPad 2. My first one covered the whole iPad, and the cover flipped over the screen like a book. I've tried several screen protectors, but IMO, they pixelate the image and it's very annoying.

The GumDrop does have a built in screen protector, and and did pixelate the screen a bit. However, I bought it because we were going on a three week road trip around the Southwest and I wanted something sturdy to protect my iPad. I love the GumDrop because while it protects it still leaves the important features free to use (ie: camera and speakers.) I had tried the Defender, but the flaps always fell back and made the iPad nearly impossible to use. Since we've returned from our trip, I pulled the plastic screen protector off the frame. If I change my mind, I can reorder a new one (screen protector only) from GumDrop for a few dollars.

My other MOST favorite iPad accessory is my Arkon Portable fold-up stand. It holds my iPad (inside it's case too!) both portrait and landscape. Plus, it's handy for ereaders and other electronics. It's really handy and lightweight.

    Hope this helps!

  18. I have a 14 year gap between my oldest and youngest, my only children. DD has lived at home until just last week, and I find myself wandering around the house, subconsciously looking for her.

The past few years I've gotten used to doing things without her, but usually they are smaller things....going to the library or a movie. But we just got back from a two week cross-country road trip to see the Southwest, and there were SO many times that I missed her and felt sad that she couldn't come with us. She couldn't go because of work and semester finals.

The day she moved out someone said to me "Well, at least you still have your son at home." I had to explain to them that it not that simple...it's more like losing your left arm. You're glad you still have your other arm, but it's still a big loss. (A bit dramatic maybe, but you know what I mean. *lol*)
