My parents were disconnected from my education but in comparison to the other ways that they were connected to us, our education was just the small quirky stuff that didnt matter too much. What did they do right? First & foremost, they introduced us to the love of the Lord. The second most important of all, they loved each other with such a deep passion. By doing so, they showed us how to love beyond the other's faults & have fun doing it. My husband & I make sure that we show affection(light duty stuff..lol) around our kids. Holding hands, a smooch, singing a part of a love song to each other, dance together...just those little things that make the kids laugh...as well as us. Just as I have, I pray that they will look back on this stuff & it will help them in their future relationships. We have tried to live the LOVE example, loving God, loving each other, & loving them, all unconditional loves. So maybe we havent screwed up in too many other areas..lol...We CAN live on love, right?...lol They kept us around extended family, such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, & cousins. Takes a village to raise a child. My mom taught me lots of laughter & how to approach people. My dad taught me to make others laugh & dont take crap off of people who dont have right intentions.

Need some advice on an ag course. We dairy farm so Ag is our life but my DD wants a structured Ag course(textbook). I havent found much. Does anyone know about Exploring Agriscience by Dr Ray V. Herren or have other suggestions?... Thanks & God bless!

I feel your pain. My girls attended public school & we have never been more happy with any other decision we have made for our kids than homeschooling...especially with diabetes!..Now that my dd is 12yo she is raging through puberty & that is a WHOLE different ball game with diabetes. She is cooperative most of the time about everything...but some days her hormones are on a rampage & being that insulin is a hormone..well one can only imagine the tears & drama that she presents us with. Puberty with diabetes creates such different problems that a person can only learn about & watch for. Nothing you can do to prevent or change it. Homeschool lifted a weight of my shoulders like I couldve never imagined. I would like to keep in touch with you. I dont know a lot of folks who have diabetic kids so its nice to share stories. So thankful we purchased our children's policies at birth. My dd was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes @ 7yo & life insursance would be costly now with this unforgiving disease in her life. I do advise it!

I am clueless about art of ANY kind. I have a 7th grader & 9th grader that I homeschool & I do not even know where to begin anything on art. I truly only want to give them a little visual on art. I dairy farm & simply do not have time to devote, nor do my kids, to studying art...Basically just need guidance on maybe a book or books, websites, etc that kinda hits the high spots of art. HELP!:001_huh: I do realize this is a WIDE ranged request..lol..Anything you have will be better than myself.

Some local ppl & I have started a small homeschool group that we have big plans for. There really isnt anything in our area for homeschoolers, we seem to be a very small minority. (Not really surprised though,LOL.) What I am looking for is a place that I can set up a web page for our group to refer to calendar dates for field trips, archery club practice, etc... Also we would like this to be a place that others in our area who may have questions or interest in homeschooling to refer to our site for contact info, etc... So I am hoping that some of you veterans who have experience in this category can give some guidance on where to start, like where is the best & easiest (& free) place to set up such web page. I am clueless when it comes to any of this so ANY info would be helpful as I need ALL I can get. Thanks & God bless!

Hey, I am just outside your area, Bledsoe Co(Pikeville), TN, 30 minutes south of Crossville Walmart toward Chattanooga. It is SUCH a small town that I do all of my shopping, etc... in Crossville. I don't know a lot of people, especially many who homeschool. I would love to get to know you & then hopefully we could meet up. I have 2 dds, Kenzie, 12.5yo, Autum, 11.5yo. We just started HSing in Oct2010, we love it. I don't know if we will be able to attend your bonfire. We dairy farm & it's hard to get away sometimes but we will come if possible. SOOOOO happy to hear of someone HSing local. I know others exist, I just don't know them. LOL Blessings!;)

As a matter of fact you are exactly right. She is a right brain learner. Sometimes it's great but mostly not so great. She can 'count up' the answer 4x4=16 but 2 math problems later if she encounters the same thing, she doesn't remember that she just 'counted up' the answer & wants to count it all over again. This creates some long term work even on very short pages, 5-6 problems. I search for new ways to help her. We can do drills, play multiplication games & really feel like we are getting somewhere. She will be nailing them but then when it's time to put it to use on school work---she goes blank & has to 'count' everything as if she has never saw the problem before. That's why I was wondering if 'learning' multiplication facts the MUS way would change the way she used them or understood them.(She gets how x's tables works she just can't remember them.) Maybe I am just grasping for straws but i don't know what other way to turn. Blessings!;)

Now that I have settled for sure on EG, anyone know how successful Math U See would be for an 8th grader who has went to public school up until 7th grade. In the fall my dd will be in 8th grade & I want to use MUS but the only reason I am leary is b/c I read that sometimes a child who has been to PS for this long then tries to change their way of doing & viewing math the MUS way just gets totally frustrated & confused. PS teaching nothing like MUS, what do I do? I am soooo tired of not being able to decide on curriculum. I think we will go with SOS for history. She wants a computer based program & I want a bible based one.:) So maybe SOS will work for us both. Thanks again. Blessings!;)

My dd11 has trouble remembering multiplication facts. Currrently using A Beka but wanting to switch to MUS. She tests so that she could start in Delta but she isn't fast by no means. My question is should I start her in Gamma to back track on multiplication that she weak on or does Delta give enough review that she will strengthen this skill? Blessings!;) P.S. She doesn't have good skip counting skills either. Just HSing since Oct. 2010, previously public school. Tryign to play catch up!
