re the books & documents of the bible - you might enjoy a (fictional) book called Letter of Mary by Laurie R King. It's part of a mystery series which starts with The Beekeepers Apprentice but this one hinges on aspects of the bible. King is a biblical scholar in her other life :-) Good, intelligent mysteries.
