  1. I have done both. Moving during pregnacy is much much MUCH easier than moving with a baby!

Exactly this! We moved to NY ten days before I delivered DD in the July heat six years ago, and to PA a month ago with our then-3 week old (now two month old ;) ).

Hands down, moving pregnant was much easier!

(and best wishes and good luck and congratulations to you! :) )

  2. We just recently got an iPad, and are just starting our homeschool journey ;)

If you end up having a need for more beta testers, please add me to the list!

I agree with previously mentioned features; unfortunately, I don't have enough experience to know what else I am going to end up needing/wanting.

Best of luck to you as you launch something that there is a true need for!

  3. My DH finally decided to get an iPad. I'd love for it to be more than an expensive toy in our home... :D

I've seen a bunch of mixed reviews - what's the Hive's fave app for transfering stuff from word or excel?

Also, is there a way to transfer ( safari) bookmarks and/or notes from an iPhone?

Finally, can I get it to do laundry? Or serve breakfast in bed?

    Thank you!

    ;)

  4. Though this means I have to admit I am totally computer graphic illiterate....I'll ask anyway.

We're starting our HS'ing journey this year, and I'd love to surprise my kiddos with tshirts or note cards or something with our school logo. Only I need a way to design it first. Other than shelling out big bucks to have someone design it (which is obviously not even a consideration), how can I do this?

I have a name and some ideas. I'd really like to draw something rather than just punch in premade clip art. Any thoughts???

    Thank you!

  5. Thank you so much for all the replies! I'm so sorry that it's taken me so long to reply - things got crazy with our move and newborn...

I found what you all shared to be invaluable / from personal to professional advice - thank you!

Given the recent major life changes we've had, it's unrealistic to think we could make a commitment to Suzuki or formal instrument instruction. I'm looking at options as far as something like Kindermusik, though all seem to be rather far. I don't know the area yet, though.

Is there some sort of a resource that would guide a musically literate parent in teaching the basics in a coherent manner? My DH has had many years of instruction and experience, though music is a hobby.

    Thank you all so much!

    :)

  6. I soooo needed to see this thread today!

My three-nager had two full blown tantrums during a brief trip to the grocery store, to the point that an elderly woman looking at my kids commented "I hope they're OK..." to her friend as I was trying to remain calm and wrangle him into the carseat. And the six year old was sassy all.day. long. Even the baby had not one but three diaper blowouts right after I gave him a bath.

I was sure they were conspiring to finally make me lose my marbles and wondering if (judging from the look on that wlderly woman's face) having them removed from my care would be such a bad idea (because I clearly am not doing a good job raising them).

As I said - I really needed to see this today, thank you.

Though I'm sorry that so many others are having such a crappy day, and yes - the full moon was breathtaking last night!

  7. We've already got two houseplans picked out (one a little smaller, one a little bigger, pending space needs and/or how much money we're willing to spend) for the eventual future build (what can I say... we like planning in advance, lol). For us the big important things:

    * office space on first floor for DH

    * Large living area/ great room

    * Some type of keeping/living room directly off the kitchen to use as a dedicated school room. Customized built ins (one big wall of floor to ceiling bookcases/cupboards for storage)

    * Large laundry/utility room right off/very close to kitchen area

    * Good sized kitchen (double ovens a must) that is open enough that living room and school room can both be seen from it - so that I can potentially have littles playing/napping in the living room and olders doing school work and be able to keep an eye on both while working in the kitchen/ doing laundry etc...)

    * lots of food storage area (walk in pantry etc)

    * playroom for the kids

    * all kid rooms on the same floor

    * 5 bedrooms with 3.5-4 bathrooms

    * dining room large enough to fit a table that seats at least 10.

    * on at least 10 acres

    ETA:

Oooh... hot tub... I forgot about that. DH would really like pool as well.

This is exactly what we'd want! ( Um, would you be willing to share the houseplans you've picked out?)

    LydiaG - congratulations :D

  8. Our 3 y.o. loves music as most do at that age, but he also keeps asking to play DH's guitar, our piano, and seems to have a real knack for music.

Our older DD is nothing like this, so this is uncharted territory. It seems a bit early, but it also seems a shame not to make the most of his obvious enthusiasm and inclination...I could be wrong - I'm no musician.

Any thoughts on beginning instrument instruction or otherwise?

    Thank you!

  9. What an interesting thread - lots of food for thought! :)

I had my plans, but life didn't cooperate ;)

DH and I became a couple when I was 17 and he was 18. I wanted to start a family by 25 and have the last by 35. What actually happened was that we didn't get married until 25, and our first "refused" to come until 32... All our kiddos took a while, and joined the family when they were ready, it seems.

Our littlest was born 4wks ago, and I'm 38. As far as pregnancy/delivery, the second was the easiest...

Hard to say at this point, especially when the smallest is so new, but I'd be wary of having another after 40... I'd love to have one more if we were currently closer to 35.

It sucks when life doesn't follow our well thought out plans ;)

  10. I'd say first consider if it really has to be between just those two choices - ie how pressed for time you are, etc. Then I'd consider how easy it would be to move out of the purchased home, i.e. How easy would it be to sell/rent out. Also, do you know anything about the landlord of the rental?

My final thought - and I have been in thus situation several times (heck, the movers just left for the day! :D) - listen to your gut forgetting all the logical pros and cons. If nothing else, give that choice an extra point for pulling at your heart.

When we moved here, we chose nice house and bad commute over OK house and excellent commute. We knew we'd be here at least 5 years and wanted a true home. This time, we picked less desirable home and neighborhood in favor of a 10 min commute- we hope to find our dream home or build it, and move out ASAP- this house should be super easy to sell.

Good luck in your decision - it's not easy, and everyone's criteria is different...

  11. We did a ton of research (I agree - the choices/reviews are no less overwhelming than when looking at curricula...) and ended up getting the Chicco key fit (ETA: key fit 30). Our current car won't fit 3 seats, so we've done a lot of installing, uninstalling, reinstalling since our little guy was born (on 5/28). Easy! Also, it's fairly light (well, so is he right now). Nice padding, very super easy to adjust the belt length. Cons- it truly was stinky out of the box as reviews say; we aired it out in the sun. I have a super sensitive nose and it seems fine now. Also, the padding next to baby is very synthetic and not very breathable. It hasn't been too hot here, but I plan to put a thin layer of cotton or muslin under him in the heat. All in all we like it much better than the peg perego we had with our first two....

  12. That sounds so much like ME 6 years ago!

I had worked full time for almost 17 years in my career, going to grad school at nights, etc....

My husband decided he wanted to move away from the area I loved.

We moved from the West Coast to the East Coast, I quit my job, and we started homeschooling and had a 3rd child......all at once.

It was a HUGE adjustment! HUGE!

    Dawn

It's nice to hear others have been there! You've obviously lived to tell about it... um, since you're on these boards, I presume it was OK after the adjustment? :001_unsure:

Our first baby was born 10 days afte we moved here and started our training... nothing like doing these things all at once, I agree! :tongue_smilie: (In our case, our kiddos don't arrive the way we try to plan them... *sigh*)

  13. Well, I was going to say that I alwys thought pqr was a guy and , wow! you hid this well. I also thought, "Holy cow, next time Barry Goldwater is going to tell us he's Partricia Nixon!"

    Then I reread.

It will be fine, and nothing is forever. You have freedom to decide what you need to do for your own family.

    COngrats on the new baby.

Ah, yes. All is well - pqr is still a guy. I'm the one with the poppies in my avi ;).

And thank you for reminding that nothing is forever.

I appreciate the congratulations on the new babe and otherwise from you all! :D
