  1. The only way we solved this was by not using a cover anymore. Hard on the grill but easier than having to chase out mice and chipmunks every spring.

Would that really keep the mice out?  I figure that the grill top is still providing cover and protection so that they will still try to stay in there.  ugh.  I would hate to turn the grill on and have a mouse jump out at me.

  2. I recently found my grill cover with holes.  It's been needing to be replaced, but the actual holes are definitely from a mouse.  In fact, when I opened it up to clean, I saw two beady eyes looking back at me.  This thing wasn't too scared of me at all so now I'm wondering how to keep it out of the grill for good.  I don't want my new cover to get chewed up nor do I want to accidentally set baby mice on fire.  I definitely saw a nest in there. Any ideas except to turn it on every few days?  I don't use it at all in the winter and I don't want to have to check on this again.  ideas?

  3. I've seen towns, exactly like you described, turn into booming trendy towns and some town turn into really run down cities with high unemployment and high crime.  You need to take a really good look at what is causing the foreclosures and rumors.  Would you be okay if you bought a home and then the value plummetted?  If you see that the closure of local industry is causing the foreclosures with no relief in sight, it's pretty telling.  On the other hand, my old hometown is what you described, but it boomed in recent years.  The location was convenient so a lot of companies came in and the town has become the newest hipster place with a ton of new local shops and trendy restaurants.

  4. Ds16 is on the jv baseball team. They have a "fundraiser" that requires each team player to submit 20 email addresses of friends and family. These friends/family members are then sent an email from the school requesting donations. Coaches warn the team that any player not submitting these addresses will be responsible for the "punishment" of the entire team (running laps, etc.).

I've instructed my son to NOT send any emails to my personal friends. I find it....tacky...to say the least. He is, of course, NOT happy with me and cannot understand why it is "such a big deal".

He managed to come up with a list that didn't include family members or family friends, but I'd still like to articulate to him why this bothers me so....

    Help!

Also, is isn't a JAWM. If you feel this is a legit way to earn money, by all means, share your thoughts!

You know, I was probably the lone dissenter, but I can see my mistake now.  I guess that it is an invasion of privacy, but what are the options?  Yes, you can disagree with it and even talk to the coaches about it, but is there something that you can do to change the fundraiser?  I do believe the punitive nature of the threat is definitely over the line.  I guess if it was my son I would ask my friends and family for their permission to share the email addresses.

  5. geez.  I'm surprised that neglect is considered an "act of God."  And why do they call it that?  I didn't realize that insurance companies were so religious.  hahaha.  The tree is holding.  I just can't figure people out.  My neighbor is very nice and I like her a lot.  I know that cutting trees is crazy expensive. However, the aftermath of major tree damage is too big to ignore.  This goes beyond the damage of property.  People live in houses!  If a massive tree falls on a house, it can hurt someone!!!

  6. I can understand why it feels wrong to you, but I've seen this frequently with sports teams.  When we were growing up, we were told to ask our friends and family for donation, but by verbally asking or via snail mail.  It's pretty much the same to me.  I guess if you don't want your ds to ask friends and family for donations, you or your ds will need to fork out the money?  What other choices does the team have for raising funds?

I'm not sure if this is a privacy issue.  Companies sell my email to other companies all the time.  My inbox is clear evidence of that.

  7. On her property, then it's her responsibility.

You mean her responsibility to pay for any potential damages to my home?  sigh.  I can't imagine that this would be any good for neighborly relations.

  8. I'm sitting here inside my toasty house during this Nor'easter watching this huge pine tree swaying between my house and my neighbor's house.  Its definitely on her property and she even has mentioned that she wants to bring it down.  One day.  Sigh.  If it ever comes down involuntarily, I suspect that it will hit my house and not her's.  Who would be to blame?  Who's insurance would cover something like this?

Why do people plant trees so close to their homes?  Do they not know that some trees will not stay small, but will become huge huge trees?  I'm seriously surprised that this tree hasn't damaged her foundation.  This pine tree's trunk is literally two feet away from her living room wall.

  9. I’ve become somewhat cynical about this exact issue. I’ve come to accept that most of the people that we become friends with are situational friends. I would let my child decide if he/ she wants to stay for their friends and then deal with the potential loss of friends. I’ve been in this situation with college, church, co ops, playgroups, etc.
