  1. The series is fantastic and very representative of what actually happened in Adams' life. The content is very "real", however, and would likely be rather intense for an 11 and 13 year old (violence, nudity, etc). That's my take on it. To give you an idea, I am not particularly sensitive when it comes to watching intense content, but there are a couple scenes in that series (particularly the tar-and-feathering scene) that still give me the chills when I ponder or re-watch them.

If you're a history buff, I do recommend you watch it. It is excellently done!

I agree! I also think of the mastectomy. Yowzaa!

Still one of the best miniseries I have ever seen!

  2. I rechecked the thread hoping it had been a mistake. I'm sure it's all too real for you.

Tried to PM you, but your box is full. I know in the States, an unexpected death can be a financial strain on a family. If you have a Paypal account, I know there are many who would love to help in a small way with those expenses or any expenses related to the fire. It's a small gesture, and the donations may be small, but they would be made with love.

I know a couple who just lost their home in a fire and a friend of theirs set up an account through www.youcaring.com. Just a thought.

  3. Last night was the worst case I have ever had. Maybe it was the storms. I live in Arkansas. :( I was awake until 2:30 am and was suppose to have been awake by 4:30 for an exercise class. Needless to say, I did not make it.

  4. We are paying a high school neighbor boy, who lives across the street, $150 for 2 weeks. He does not stay at our house but comes at least once a day and sometimes twice, feeds and waters the cat and dog, and cleans the litter box. He does a great job.

  5. I had a baseline at 40, then just had another one a few weeks ago, just shy of 44. Everything was normal. And I have no history of breast cancer in my family.

My ob/gyn, who I consider a friend and really trust, recommends it yearly. Last year she had a questionable mammogram that resulted in a biopsy. Thankfully everything turned out fine but she said she will DEFINITELY have one every year.

I have terrible anxiety about having a mammogram. I put it off until the fear was worse than knowing. I'm glad I went for peace of mind.

  6. I think Australia's loveliness far outweighs the risks of a few creepy crawlies. Of course, I grew up in Oklahoma, land of poisonous snakes, spiders, scorpions, and massive, long-track tornadoes. :ack2:
    .

Yep, we deal with all those lovely things here in Arkansas. :D
  7. I just finished reading The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty, which was SO GOOD :-)
I am starting Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. So far so good.

As for a read aloud for my kiddos, we just finished The cricket in Times Square, which they totally loved, and are now reading Harry Kitten and Tucker Mouse. I suspect we will be making our way through every book our library has about these characters over the next month or so. :-)

    Loved The Husband's Secret! :D

Oh, and The Cricket in Times Square is one of our all time favorite read alouds!

I just started The Goldfinch.  I'm sure it's going to be as wonderful as the reviews indicate, but so far it hasn't quite grabbed me.  But I'm only ten percent in.

Prior to that I read The Poisonwood Bible and thought it was one of the best books I've ever read.

I was hoping I would like The Goldfinch because so many others did. Maybe it will grow on you. :)

    :iagree: about The Poisonwood Bible.

I am currently reading Bertie Plays the Blues by Alexander McCall Smith. A fun read so far.

  8. Oooh, you can do Disney countdown fun!!

Make a countdown calendar (Pinterest has lots). I have so much fun with those!!

I always have a special themed Disney dinner every Sunday night before our trip for months ahead of time. I choose a Disney movie, and then theme the food to go with it. Spaghetti and meatballs and the works for "Lady and the Tramp". Pizza Planet for "Toy Story". A French dinner for "Beauty and the Beast". All kinds of fun themes. Disboards has lots of ideas for this. Under the "family board", I think. Anyway, it's a blast, and it helped my kids refresh their memories on the movies and characters we were going to meet. Now we just do it for nostalgia's sake. And because I love it. :D

I've been looking at countdown ideas all day today and can't decide on which one. :) Hoping to make one this weekend.

I love the Sunday night idea!!

Oh and today watched all of those videos you posted on the other thread. So so cute!!!

  9. My middle dd is always good for a laugh. Yesterday she told her older sister that she thought the "f bad word" might be "fickle dairy".

She is also trying to decide on the theme for her birthday. And since she likes the Feista decor and wants to support the military, she decided she wanted a "Mexican military" birthday theme. :D

  10. A few book-related news items I stumbled across earlier today:

The Goldfinch is being made into a movie - or something.

Americanah, my current read, won an award last night. The non-fiction winner (which won the Pulitzer Prize for literature) sounds interesting. I added it to my TBR list.

Public libraries still matter to Americans.

Thanks! Americanah is in my tbr pile. I'm going to add that non-fiction book, Five Days at Memorial, as well.
