  1. Videotext sounds great! I was getting nervous about whether or not to pursue Algebra after PM6B, but I went to the website and it looks very promising? Just wondering, does videotext offer anything after Geometry? (like Trignometry or Calculus?) Thanks so much, hopefully they'll be at the local homeschool fair in May.
  2. My 10 yo is doing WT 2 right now and really enjoying it. I wish WT 3 was available for next year!! I bought ours from www.writing-tales.com. If you have any questions Amy is prompt to answer. Good Luck!
  3. Thanks!! I was hoping for some responses as well!! I am really confused as what to do, she is my oldest dc, so this is all new to me! BTW, we spread R&S 6 over 2 years (5th & 6th grade). My dd started R&S English 3 in 2nd grade, so she was always a year "ahead" in English, then when we got to 5th grade I had her do R&S English 6 for 2 years, but she didn't do the writing lessions, for those she used Wordsmith Apprentice in 5th and right now she's doing Wordsmith in 6th. A big reason why I spread R&S 6 over 2 years is I wanted her to have more time to spend on developing her writing skills. This probably won't help you as your dc is going into 6th... oh well! Good Luck - thanks for the post!
  4. Thanks for your post. I've never heard of Math Smart Junior or Kenetic Books? Do they have a website? Where did you hear about them? Also, after Sing 6B were you all along going to have your dd do Pre-Algebra? I guess I was assuming my dd (12 yo) could go into Algebra 1 after 6B with no problem, but from reading many of the previous posts, this may not be true. I guess I'm confused as to what to do for next fall (pre-algebra, or algebra).... Right now we are almost 1/2 done 6B. Any thoughs from your experience? Thanks for your insight!
  5. Thanks for your post as well. So your dc did MUS Pre-Algebra also after Singapore 6B? Or you went straight to Algebra 1? Also which curriculum did you use? Thanks for the clarification! :)
  6. Thanks for the post. So, I understand correctly, you dc used MUS Pre-Algebra for 3 months. How did he get through it so quickly? After that what Algebra 1 course did your dc use? Thanks so much for the insight on the quantity of work, I hadn't thought of that!
  7. Thank you both for the explainations! Also, just curious why is Chalkdust so expensive? Any place I can buy it cheaper? Thanks again:)
  8. that after Singapore 6B, you could go straight into Algebra 1? Is that not correct? Thanks!
  9. Hello all! My dd has used R&S english 3 - 6 and I was about to buy English 7 (she starts 7th grade in the fall), but then I heard about AG. I had the following questions- 1) Should she continue to use R&S English 7 & 8 (in 7th & 8th grades) then can she use the AG High School books, or does dd need to have used AG full program prior? 2) Or has anyone stretched R&S English 7 & English 8 across 4 years (English 7 in 7th & 8th, English 8 in 8th & 9th)? After that what's next? 3) Or not buy R&S English 7, and switch to AG for 7th and 8th, then onto using the AG HS Reinforcement books in high school. I'd really like dd to focus more on writing and literature. She's learned a lot from R&S, but I'm just confused as to the best steps to take reguarding LA and of course what best prepares her for SATs & college. Thank you all for responding! Sangita
  10. My 12yo finishes up Singapore 6B in a few months. I'll like her to start Algebra 1 next. I don't think I want her to do NEM series (since it follows a different scope and sequence). I was originally thinking of TT, but I've heard it's not rigorous enough and dd really wants to go into science/medical field, so I'd like her to continue on upto Calculus in 12th grade. Any suggestions on a good Alegebra 1 course that you've had sucess with? TIA! Sangita
  11. Heather, Thanks so much for your post. It really helps me understand how you incorporate CW with TOG. I appreciate your details. I'll research more of TOG writing and CW from their websites! Thanks again! Sangita:)
  12. Thanks so much for the posts. It was really helpful. I'll look into all the ideas!
  13. Wow! Thanks for all the information on TOG Siloam! I am considering TOG Year 1 next year for my 3 older dc (12yo,10yo,7yo). But, they'd be in three different levels D,UG,LG and I'm not quite sure how everything would flow- this is the first year I'll be folding in our 7yo into our history cycle. You said CW is your primary writing curriculum and TOG a supplement. Can I ask why you choose CW as the main one? Also, does TOG writing use the historical time period or historical literature/reading as to what the student writes about? In other words is the writing always related to the current historical time period the student is studying? On a side note, can you tell me how you like CW? Reguardless of whether we use TOG next year or not, I may use CW for my 12 yo & 10 yo. Right now the older dc is using Wordsmith and younger is going thru' Writing Tales 2. Can you tell me IYHO, how time intensive CW is on dc & mom? Also, I want to continue using R&S for English (English 7 & English 6). Would this be too much alongside CW? I'm assuming we'd use Homer? Thanks so much for your help! Sangita
  14. Hello All, Our oldest will be entering 7th grade in the fall (yikes!) and I had a few questions reguarding LA, writing and history. She's used Rod & Staff since 3rd grade (she's completed English 3,4,5, and now on the last lesson of 6). I was wondering if I should buy English 7 for next year and complete it in one year or use it for the next two years (7th & 8th grades) then onto English 8 for 9th & 10th grades? But, I'd like my dd to spend more time with writing and lit, so I was contemplating switching from R&S (wonderful as it is, it is a lot of English every day) and using Analytical Grammer in 7th & 8th? From the website, it seems pretty straighforward and less time consuming. Yet, at the same time, R&S has given her a very strong foundation in English, and I wonder if I should switch... sorry to ramble...! Any thoughts?! About writing, could anyone recommend a good writing program for 7th grade? My dd did Wordsmith Apprentice & Home2Teach classes in 5th and this year in 6th she's working through Wordsmith (and enjoying it). I've heard a lot about CW. How do you like it? Can someone tell me how time intensive it is for mom and dd? I guess we'd be using Homer? Also, my 2nd dd 10yo is using Writing Tales Level 2, next year could she use Homer alongside my older dd? About history next year we'll start with Ancients again. I'll be homeschooling my 3 older kids (dd12,dd10,dd7). I really want all three to be doing Ancients. I looked into WinterPromise, but not quite sure if we can use their Ancients program with dd7 without a lot of book searching and modification on my end. (WP recommends American History for early years) I looked at MFW, but their Creation to the Greeks is for 4th-8th, (they also recommend Adventures or ECC) Now I'm looking into Tapestry of Grace. Any opinions on this? Or does anyone have anyother ideas? I'd really need something that's planned out (time saving for me) as I have a toddler on foot as well, and dd7 goes weekly to Speech Therapy and OT therapy. Thanks so much for reading this long narrative and responding! Sangita
