  1. Would you say Discovering Geometry is rigorous? How does it compare to Jacobs or any other common home-school geometry curriculum? Thank you!
  2. Can you tell me about your experience with Derek Owens? We are in Haiti for a year and need a video course for geometry... Thanks!
  3. Can a pretty intelligent 10th grader work through Discovering Geometry by Key Curriculum Press on their own, with the teacher's guide? Anyone done this? Thanks!
  4. Julie- If you buy the syllabus did you need the teacher's manual? What does the syllabus include from MFW? I am looking at Total Health for my high schooler, but don't want to purchase the TM. Is that possible? Thanks!
  5. Does anyone know if it's necessary to purchase the teacher's manual for the Total Health curriculum for High Schoolers? Thanks!
  6. So, I have a 9th grader, am an Indiana resident, and am new to transcripts and credits. Do I need to record my dd's transcript to look like an Indiana Academic Honors' even though I can't officially award such a thing? Indiana designates a semester's worth of work as ONE credit. Do I have to make my records reflect Indiana's credits? Should I record a year's worth of work to be ONE credit or TWO credits, as Indiana requires? Thank you, thank you for any words of experience!
  7. I am trying to work with a tutor on creating a Spanish 1 class using Rosetta Stone version 2 as a basis for my 9th grade dd. What must be included for a year's worth of credit for Spanish 1? Spanish 2? Thank you so much!
  8. How much did you help them? Are you a math whiz? I did fine in high school math, but it's been so long! I'm intimidated to try to relearn all this and teach it by myself! How much time did you take to prepare your lessons? Thanks!
  9. If anyone has any input on whether their kiddos were able to complete geometry by working through Jacobs independently, I would so appreciate it!
  10. Hello- My dd grader will be taking geometry next year as a 9th grader and I need help figuring out geometry. She is a strong student but must work to achieve high math grades. She received an A this year in Algebra at a local private school. We used MUS in 5th-7th when she was home. She's coming back home and has said she likes video teaching, but I would like something a little more in-depth than MUS. I have heard good things about Jacobs geometry but I am not sure how she would be working through it independently. Any suggestions? I would prefer not to spend hefty money on Chalkdust, but if that's the best there is, I guess we could bite the bullet. My other thought is MUS honors plus LOF. Help, please!
  11. Hi! My dd12 is finishing up MUS Zeta this year and slowly working through Sing. 4b (hoping to continue Sing. as a supplement through summers). What do we need to look for in a pre-algebra text for her 7th grade year? What will she need to prepare her for algebra? Trying to decide whether to stick with MUS. She's doing just fine with it...but want to make sure she is adequately prepared for college. I'm not the mathy mom... What is the difference between Lial's BCM and MUS pre-algebra? Any other suggestions? Thanks so much!
  12. Wow, Siloam, thanks! Your input is very helpful. What about prep time - how does that compare? Do you read any books aloud? Are you happy with the writing aspect of TOG?
  13. Can anyone help me sort out the differences between these two programs? I have enjoyed Core 3+4 and 5 of SL, but am not happy with the lack of literary analysis and thought-provoking discussions/writing assignments for history. My dd is 12 and I'm bringing home ds 9 and ds 7 this fall.
  14. I'm looking for input on Bravewriter. Is the Writer's Jungle worth the expense? Any input would be valuable! Thanks!
