  1. Can it be secularized? Do they have the Classical Pronunciation also on CD? What parts are required? I wouldn't think we need more than texts and Audio CD. Where would a child be placed after completing Lively Latin 2? I don't mind some review to cement stuff, but I don't want to do a whole year of review.

    TIA !

  2. Yeah, I lock mine in and beat them daily, while eating bon bons in front of them while they starve.

You said your self those kids were well taken care of, the house was clean and they are fed. Who are you to judge how she teaches or doesn't?

Really out of here, I must go teach and take care of my kids.

Don't Quote me again please, I don't want the notifications. Over this.

  3. Before my mother passed my kids at 17, 16, and 14 took a whole year off of school. We didn't do one thing anyone would call academics. We were busy spending our last days with her. Any outsider could have called CPS and reported us for not schooling in our non reporting state. Thank goodness they didn't though. That one year with my mother, all of us surrounding her is the main reason that two of my children went into medical fields. One of them isn't employed as she has small children, but she will again one day. Life isn't so cut and dried as outsiders sometimes see it. Would any of my kids trade that year, heck no. Did they still learn, heck yeah.

    Life lessons.

  4. There is nothing to do. I live in a state with no oversight. I don't want anyone out there reporting me for my choices. I could never unschool, but I can't tell other parents to do what I want.

I do truly believe that kids will learn despite what mistakes parents might do. I have seen some apply to college to learn that they need to do a lot of work. It is sad, but again not my child. I have also seen children unschool and be leaps ahead of some other children I know that were very rigorously taught.

Your child, your business. My child my business. Simple.

  5. All five of my kids were different. I tried to put the older three in the same box. LOL I learned pretty fast that it just doesn't work like that. Now with the younger two I am starting all over, and they can soar or sink to where ever they need to be. I am good with meeting them where they are at, as long as there is progress made. I was afraid to play hooky too. I love that now we can play hooky because the sun it out, or the sun isn't out, for a movie marathon, or just anything that tickles our fancy sometimes. It prevents burn out when you take frequent mental health breaks.

And Baileys in my coffee cup gets me through the tough days. ;-)

  6. I have purchased an Amazon Prime account of years. I have always, before this year gotten my packages in just 2 business days ( not including holidays). Lately if I order on Friday, I get packages on Wednesday through Friday. Seriously?

I ordered something for my grand baby on the 12th of Sept, and it was delivered to Austin on SUNDAY the 14th!! I have never once got a package on Sunday. I don't even get them on Saturday very often.

I do live in a smaller town, just a mile or two from a larger city. Corpus Christi is not as big as Austin for sure. But for Prime guaranteed 2 day shipping to take from Friday to Wednesday or later. If I do order during the rest of the week I get my package on average in 3 days.

I am so over Prime. I will not be signing up this year. I refuse to move to a huge city to get stuff when promised.

  7. I just heard from my daughter in N.W. San Antonio, two of the grAnd babies are sick. Trey is being watched closely. She was given extra Albuterol as he usually uses Xopenex in his nebulizer. She also has steroids on hand. With instructions to stay home unless she needs to go to the ER.

I'm north of San Antonio, and there is something going around here. Don't know if that's what it is, but there are a lot of people in town complaining of cold like symptoms. some people have said theirs turned into pneumonia. Dd1 came home friday all nasally, low grade fever, sore throat, and no otc meds are doing anything. Sudafed, mucinex, allergy meds.. nothing brings any relief. Dd2 came home w/ it yesterday. Taking her to the doc tomorrow, as she actually has fever over 100 and is complaining of ear pain on top of everything else.

I'm not one to worry about this stuff- didn't worry at all during the h1n1 scare, but I'm being more watchful over this one.

  8. Thanks everyone. I like the looks of GSWL, but I'd have to choose something else again, after the program is finished. I think I'd rather pick something I could use for a longer period of time. So about the pronounciation, is this a big deal? Sorry, I literally know nothing as you may notice. I look the looks of both Memoria and LFC. I'm a bit worried about LFC though, as we've tried Song School Greek and didn't like it one bit.

GSWL has taken us a bit, the kids have gone for a while then back tracked and started again. It gets tougher and has a ton of Grammar. We did stop for grammar instruction too. For the cost, and the depth, and the ease of daily work it is a winner in my book.

We did Song School Latin, but I didn't like the looks of LFC at all.

  9. I will not be getting prime again, as 90% of my books are taking 3-4 days when they should take two. I get that I am not in one of the largest cities in the country, but I live next to a rather large one. I have had no issues for the last 6 years, but lately I am just done. So very disappointed with Amazon lately. They are getting to big to have great customer service.

I will pay the expedited shipping at Rainbow if I need something a bit faster.
