  1. We just started using a new science curriculum that was developed for the grammar stage. It is http://www.elementalscience.com/ and we are really liking it.
  2. with reading The Well Educated Mind up to the point where we are suppose to start reading books? I think the first book on the list is Don Qouixte. I am new to this..........can ya tell?:p:D
  3. I just started reading The Well Educated Mind. In it suggest having someone to dicuss the books with. I have nobody in my life to do so with so I am looking for someone or someones to take this journey with me. Anyone interested?
  4. Especially for a 6 year old?!?!? My 9 year old son just looks at me at whines that he doesn't know how to memorize things and I can't even begin to explain it to my 6 year old.
  5. Do you all keep some sort of record of what they have memorized like a folder or file for them to refer to?
  6. So I suppose I will actually read ahead if I want to prepare myself by buying or reserving the books. I am an overplanner and times like these really get me turned around. :D
  7. Perhaps I am just having a blonde moment but I checked out this book and I can not find a list of the books we are suppose to read. I wanted to go ahead and either purchase or reserve some of the books but I can't find a list of the books in this book.
  8. When ds was in 1st grade which was the first year we started homeschooling, I didn't use anything. We just focused on putting our thoughts into words and sentences and didn't really get into it. If we were writing something I would point out that we end sentences with periods or questions marks or that some names needed to be capitalized. It wasn't really a "planned" thing. When he started 2nd grade we started Rod and Staff English 2. This year he is in 3rd grade and we are doing Rod and Staff English 3. We love Rod and Staff because is so simple. Dd is age 6 and in K. I am using Explode the Code with her right now, but plan to start Writing Strands with her and ds soon. When she is in 2nd I will start her on the Rod Staff as I did with ds.
  9. Dd age 6 just offcially joined in on homeschooling last springs. Since then whatever Ds(age 9) is doing, she does right along with him, although she doesn't get near as far into it as he does. I just don't think I could keep from pulling out my hair it I had to do two different sciences at once. The only thing I don't like about having them do the same topic is it seems that all of ds's public school friends have already covered so many topics already and we are only in life sciences right now. We have not even covered Earth science, chemistry, physics and such. Well I take that back we did a tiny bit on space last year and the kids loved it, my dd loves the planets.
  10. Have you looked at The Mystery of History curriculum. http://www.themysteryofhistory.com/ It is classical, chronilogical and Bible based.
  11. Just moved here a few months ago from Abilene area. Where did all the trees go!?!?!?
  12. We are pretty new to the whole Classical homeschooling approach. Basically I read the book one day out of the blue and everything started clicking in my head that this was the way to go. We are currently using the recommended for the other subjects but I am very stuck on Science. My children are in K and 3rd grade. I know my 3rd grader should be past the life science and such but he really hasn't had much of that yet. Would it be ok to to start him and my K on the same science and just go from there. It would be soooooo much easier on me if I didn't have to do two science curriculums at once and I worry that he has missed so much of the other anyway. I have no idea what direction to go with science or even what to use. To fill in the void since I don't know what we are going to do, they both have been working their way through The Body Book. Any thoughts, advice, suggestions?
