UGGHH!! I wish I could just look at both of these programs! They are both so expensive I hate to buy without seeing. PLEASE anyone tell me what you HATE about either of them. -
Have you used this & what did you think of it?

??? Tell me about Institute for Excellence in Writing
Denise Allen replied to Denise Allen's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thank you so much for you reply. I will certainly look into Susan's mp3 lessons. So hard to find what you would like when you can't see and handle it! Thanks again! -
My daughter is 8th grade (son 7th). I am thinking of IEW. Wondering if it would work well for my daughter. She is already a very good intuitive writer. It comes naturally. I am interested in the more formal aspects of the program (outlines, research papers, etc.) Do you like the program? Do you think we should start with level B or C? Thanks so much in advance. Such a big purchase, just want to choose wisely.

My 13 yr. old daughter just started a blog, and I know she would be really excited to have followers (especially that homeschool). Please feel free to stop by her blog. All Saddled Up... and no place to go. http://www.allsaddledup.blogspot.com/ Thanks!:)

Lial's Basic College Math
Denise Allen replied to Hot Lava Mama's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I should tell you where I got mine! I ordered through Alibri and the books came from a company called Better World Books. Both texts were listed as fair but were new looking. Not a pencil mark, no rips. Looked brand new. I have no idea why the BCM was so cheap. -
Lial's Basic College Math
Denise Allen replied to Hot Lava Mama's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I just got a copy of this text for $.99!! Honestly, I couldn't believe it~ and it was in almost perfect condition! I was able to get the Algebra text for $7.00. -
okay, so I will just try to find the '94 solutions manual (which is the text I have) or, if I can't find one, purchase the newest one. Thanks! I am so thankful for this site and all you who are willing to help. I am new here, but there are soooo many math threads. I am sure some of you are sick of hearing/talking about it! :)

Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!! :D You were all very helpful!! I feel so much more confident about my choices now. What would you suggest I need (besides the text) for Foerster Algebra I? I don't want to purchase a Teacher's text unless it is extremely helpful. I am wondering if I should purchase a solutions manual. Thanks again!

My 13 yr. old daughter (well, 13 in August) would like to write/email with a penpal from another country. If you have a daughter who would be interested please let me know. She likes: reading!!, horses, sports (baseball), music (sings, plays violin) She has 3 younger brothers and has been homeschooled from the beginning. Denise

I have narrowed down my Algebra I choice to either Foerster or Jacobs. I would then do: Jacobs Geometry Probably Feorster Algebra II etc. Question: Did you use Foerster/Jacobs and did your child go on to college to pursue a career in math? If so~ were they prepared or not after these courses?? I am extremely grateful for any help! :D

I know everyone is probably sick of math questions~ sorry! I have read every thread I could find over the past few weeks on Dolciani, Foerster, Lials, and Jacobs. I now have a copy (at least one) of each author. Honestly, every single one looks great! I have sat every evening reading through Algebra I books for the past two weeks! The only "Pre-Algebra" book I ordered was Lials BCM. I wish I would have ordered Dolciani Pre-Algebra. My question: My oldest (8th grader) will be doing Algebra I (not sure which!) My 7th grader will do Pre-Algebra. If my son did Lials BCM (since that is the one I have already) would he most likely be able to transition to any of the above mentioned Algebra I texts? (Dolciani, Jacobs, Foerster) I appreciate ANY advice. I want my kids to understand math, and have a rigorous program. THanks so much for being patient through another math question!
