Will I need to supplement? I have the kingfisher encyclopedia but wondered if I will need more history? Does BF have suggestions for crafts or anything to go along with the history or is it just history?

Since we are just starting classical I am going to start with ancient and then go in rotation. This will get my oldest 2 rotations. Anyone tried the ancients?

I am thinking of using this next year for my 5th grader. We will be new to classical method and this is our second year homeschooling. What can you tell me about beautiful feet? Do you like it? Pros and cons? User tips?

In our state when a child becomes 14 they can take classes at the community college for high school and college credit but their parents have to sit in with them. At the age of 16 they can take them alone. These classes are free since they are high school and a child could go to university and start as a junior if they get the associate's degree. You might check with your local community college to see if they offer this program in your state. If they do you would want him even if he is taking a higher math to be in the grade for his age so it would match up right for that opportunity.

I plan to go by the WTM curriculum next year my son is going to be in 5th grade but he is advanced in science so I would like to supplement with some great experiments. Where do you shop for your experiment ideas or kits that would be on a probably 8th or 9th grade level? It can be secular.

It makes sense. My son is part of a local homeschool group and does fieldtrips with them. He plays soccer and football. I have thought of starting a book club so he will have someone to talk to about the books he reads. He is going to start guitar lessons. My hubby taught a physics quest to some local homeschoolers and he was very involved with that.

I think every child is different on what age it needs to be told. If you are asked then definitely you have to answer. I do think the trickle of info is good too. My son is 9 almost 10 and the dr did his one year check up and then he told me that my son had not yet even began puberty and is not likely to begin for a while. So we leave and then my son says what is puberty so I told him it is a time when your body is changing rapidly and you will becoming a man it takes a span of several years. So he is like ok is that when my male part gets bigger.. so we did have a talk about that. I had a baby and he was 8 and of course he says to me wow that is really going to hurt your butt.. so we had that talk too. I think life presents itself or otherwise God will lead you. Pray about it and you will do fine.

Here is something to check out: Heart of the Matter Unit Study on The Human Body. It is loaded with LOTS of helpful information. ~Tina
That is an extra cool unit study. I saved it too.

Chicken Fettucine Alfredo
Cook chicken and pull off bones. Boil noodles put store bought alfredo sauce on noodles and chicken. You can add steamed broccoli for veggies but be warned that it might give you gas (sorry TMI but since you are pregnant thought I would mention it).

I use this website to make my own and have it binded at staples. It is cheaper.

Personally I would not consider that rigorous either. It does sound for those subjects she is average for a 8th or 9th grader. I was college prep in high school and not in advanced classes and I took algebra in 8th and physical science in 8th too. That was over a decade ago. That being said I am not sure I would say anything if it were my friend. I would tell her if she says she is worried her child will graduate early maybe suggest that she could always take more math and science before graduating.

I have the early version. Can anyone tell me the recommendations for 5th grade for the newer version? Thanks.

Are there different versions? How do they differ? Do the recommendations for books change?

This may not help but spiral nor mastery work with my ds. We use Singapore and I found that it didnt' work for Saxon by doing it and he cried he was so miserable. He also didn't like doing the same work over and over again in the mastery books. So I would say by trial and error.

I won't begin to interpret God's will especially since you are at peace. I will pray for his griefing and your son's and that God's will be done all your lives.

That is soo scary. I am glad everyone is safe. I think people are being a little harsh I am sure you were in shock. I am not sure I would have had my wits enough to call police but I would have wanted to get her out of there too. I do hope if the situation presents itself again you will call police when you see someone that bad off. I have addicted family members and that is the best thing you can do for them. You could be their saving grace. But I understand how you felt coming home and just wanting her gone and away from your kids so she couldn't do any harm. Hugs.

Here is a link where you can buy kits for science. I think that would be great for 4th grade.

Would you want to add good literature in what you already do? If your program is working for everything but literature then I would suggest the reading list from amblesideonline.org. It is very good. We use Abeka for language and then use the reading list from ambleside. For writing I am using writing strands.

The Usborne books you mentioned would be more of a reference or WTM suggests books like that as an outline. The SOTW is more of a story so I would think they work well together and would be ok apart depending on what you would like to have for your classroom. I am an Usborne rep if you do decide to buy one, you should check out the Usborne book of history which includes ancient history, medieval, prehistoric, and modern times. It is a better buy than buying them seperately. HTH.
Now I'm wanting to see 5th & 8th grade plans...and opinions on mine
