:iagree:I really like knitplcks. They have metal points but I prefer the wooden ones-- maybe they are bamboo. The cables don't twist when I knit.
I have never tried the other brand.
I would try both then get more. This is a purchase that you can use for year!
I love Knitpicks (or Knitpros as they are called around here). I even got the squares ones. I like these because I got some carpal tunnel syndrome and with these I find I don't have to hold the needles so 'hard'. However they do make your stitches smaller so you have to go one size higher to get the same gauge -figuring this out is a bit of a hassle, the only drawback to the square needles. I want to try knitpicks niquel next :D

I was wondering the same thing.
My dh and I wear rings. He had to replace his as he lost one in the snow once. It is the only piece of jewerly he'll wear.
p.s. Spammers are all over this board. Yesterday I got an unauthorised private message from someone who had wedding gown website in her/his siggy. The moderators were quick to delete it and alert me about it -very gratefulabout that too. :D

I just think that it is too short a time. It takes awhile to hit your stride, to decompress from public school and to find the right curriculum. I voted that it could be ok in some cases.

What kind of test is a food intolerance test and where do you take such a thing?
Dawn
I had it done by this company: yorktest.com. It uses a blood sample to test whether you are sensitive to certain foods. I came back intolerant to wheat, corn, yeast, and a bunch of other things. I had the test done because of IBS.
Is brown rice, or wild rice completely out of order though? Just asking because rice is one of the few things I'm not allergic too. Also because wild rice is something our ancestors used to collect on their nomadic trips...

I'll get on the bandwagon with you :D My food intolerance test came back and I should avoid like a 1,000 things. However, I'm not intolerant to sugar or grains, but I do need to lose 20lbs (roughly 10kg) so I'm willing to switch to a healthier lifestyle. Count me in!
p.s. I will have to start tomorrow because it is 3.30pm for me and I've had breakfast and lunch already. :glare:

I'm a leftie. I write with the page turned almost 90 degrees anti-clokwise. my mum is a rightie and she says she gets a headache every time she watches me do crafts or do things in general. However I had no problems at schools (well, maybe with trigonometry). I would say don't worry about how your daughter does things as long as she does things safely and is ok with academics.
p.s. I'm typing with one hand because I had an accident yesterday and got stitches in my right hand. Sorry about the Tarzan-speak typing:tongue_smilie:.

I wouldlove to say we are "classical homeschoolers" but the fact is that at this point we are just doing the next thing. DS is 5yo. We are doing the 3 R's and lots of other stuff too but I can't say we are defined yet.

Thanks everybody for the help. Because ds has speech issues we've had to concentrate on English but of curse the Spanish is even more on the back burner. We'll see if we can go to Spain this summer so ds can see for himself mummy is not the only one who speaks a "weird" language (sigh).

I would go to the best bookshop in the world and spend the day choosing books to take home! :D

Terrific post. I recognized myself in this paragraph:
"I read and read and read until I could tell you the ins-and-outs of every educational method under the sun, but I couldn't tell you what worked for my kids. Which is ridiculous, really, because I'm not teaching every child under the sun. And yet I knew more about how Reggio education came to be or how*Charlotte Mason thought grammar should be taught than about what worked best for my own children. My nose was always stuck in a book; my face always turned toward a screen. I was so wrapped up in the how of teaching these children, that I wasn't really meeting the needs of*my actual children."
Fantastic post! Thank you for posting the link.

Audrey's "lick a witch" cracks me up every time I read it.

I've had both pedigree and rescue dogs. The advantage with a purebred dog is that unless there is something terribly wrong with the animal, you can tell what temperament, size, and training requirements the dog will possess.
If the things I listed above are important to you then pay the money. I've had wonderful rescue dogs, but I've also had a couple of not-so-pleasant surprises.

Can someone please download this and send it me to me pretty please? I'm outside the US so Google book ignores me? Kindly please?

Can someone in the US download it and please send it to me? I've tried the link but it is not available to me (I'm in the Gulf). Pretty please???

Wow!!!

I tried to reinvent the wheel. No good. I have no idea what the local schools are using and I don't have access to the books because you get them from their school bookshop. But I am all for this approach. I'm just not geared up to making lessons plans from scratch.
-
I'm outside the US and I cancelled my gmail account over the whole Google privacy thing. Does this mean I can't download the book???
-
:lol: :iagree: I've been told German is harder than Latin.
Anyway, I had to try. I don't even know why the book is not being printed anymore. My school's library had it...but that was decades ago. Bummer...

I am looking for a copy or ebook download of Michael Ende's "Jim Button and Luke the Engive Driver". I know it is out of print in English. I don't mind paying a decent price for it but I certainly cannot afford $500 for a "collector's copy" from Amazon.
Does anybody have a link to this book? I read it as a young girl and loved it. I would like to share it with ds, but now I can't find it.

I do everything except for the panic button because my husband thinks I am paranoid and won't get a key chain with a whistle, or panic buttons or anything. I grew up in a large city when people when mugged right in front of your eyes and nobody bats an eyelid, so...yes, I guess I am paranoid.
I also DON'T roll my window down when someone on foot or from another car asks me for directions.

We've got one, medium sized (we are a small family). My husband bought it before we got married, and 9+ years later it is still woking fine. It is so loved we actually put it in our suitcase when we moved here!

For my guys, we are moving over to Math Mammoth in about a week. We were combining Horizons and Singapore, which has been working fine, but I love that MM has that Singaporish (can that be a word?) style to it, but has the independent element and, most importantly, eliminates my need for 5 different books to teach it:)
:iagree: We are moving to MM after finishing SM Essential Math. Also, being overseas MM has the advantage I can download it and don't have to deal with books being lost in the mail. Also I like Maria's videos on youtube.

I give up! grrrr grrrr
phonics_reading/Building-a-New-Nation.htm
I give up. How do you insert a link to something in the web so the whole address doesn't show just a word? I see people saying things like "I like this" and the word this is a link. How??????
