  1. Being there for her with e-mails, short calls and short visits would mean a lot.

If there is any food she particularly craves, you could make it for her. I loved mashed potatoes during chemo.

I had a friend do internet research for me on my particular type of cancer. That was so helpful, as figuring out the options after the diagnosis can be overwhelming.

Another friend picked blueberries that we could put in our freezer. That was usually part of our summer routine, but during the chemo summer I wasn't feeling up to it.

  2. :svengo: I *never* mix bathroom & kitchen towels OR washcloths. The ones in one room are a *completely* different color & texture from the ones in the other room. Mixing is not possible, funny, or allowed!

    (Why, though, I'm not sure.)

I totally agree......we have separate hot loads here.

For dishes we use a brush from IKEA, and then put them in the dishwasher. For other items we use a brush, dobie, stainless steel scrubber or sos type pad - whatever works. They don't get sanitized or tossed as often as they should be.

  3. I started making this lately and the family enjoys it. The recipe is quite flexible. I put water in a large soup pot and add a heaping serving spoon of miso. The water/miso combination is put on the stove to boil and I add sliced mushrooms(6 more or less), scallions(3 at least), and a half tub of med or firm tofu drained and cut into cubes. I also mince up a couple large cloves of garlic and about an inch of ginger. After everything is simmering, I add a bunch of organic kale torn into little pieces(stems composted), and then a half bag of chinese noodles. For us this works as a vegan version of chicken soup. It's nourishing and helps when we aren't feeling well.

  4. There are times in my life that reading this posted on my wall has helped.

    ATTITUDE

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudesâ€

  5. We use a biscuit for our strawberry shortcake......it is a highlight of the summer. We pick the strawberries. As soon as possible we have our traditional warm homemade biscuit cut in half with butter, then put slightly mashed berries heaped on each side with a generous dollop of real whipped cream.

Oh my, I could really go for one now.
