  1. No......absolutely no. We were on our way to an event in the next town on a February evening when a truck pulled out in front of us. My dh put on the brakes, but due to the icy roads we ended up losing control of the car, went off the side of the road and the car flipped. The baby was in the carseat upside down, totally fine. That was enough to make me adamant about carseat use.
  2. I hate to be behind drivers that leave their turn signals on for miles. Just turn it off! Another driving annoyance is when a car pulls out in front of me and then goes slow. This is particularly irksome when there are no other vehicles to be seen. They could have pulled out behind me if they wanted to go below the speed limit.
  3. I'm not a techie, so would need something fairly simple. I'm looking into the mystuff app and also will check more into a photo book or ancestry tree. Thanks much for your ideas and replies.
  4. I have a small sink with a disposal on the left and a large deep sink on the right. I like this much better than the single sink that I had previously.
  5. I don't share with my husband if someone asks me to keep something confidential. I expected that of others, as my immediate family operates that way. Unfortunately,I wasn't aware of how the wider world worked. A couple different CC "friends" that I shared different confidential information with decided to pass it on to their husbands. In one instance, the husband continued to pass the information along to others. It got messy, and there are still repercussions. As a result, I only share with other friends what can be passed along to their husbands. If the situation needs to be talked about confidentially, I'll go to a counselor.
  6. My parents have many family heirlooms that are only valuable for the sentiment and stories that go with them. Is there an app or some other way to take a photo and then add several sentences of information about each item? Apps that I've looked at seem to be more appropriate for valuable works of art or furniture. The items that I'd want to inventory would be things like a doily that cousin Jane made when she was 7 or a tea cup that was given when grandpa was baptized. I would like to sort the inventory by objects - all china or all crocheted items and also sort the inventory by person - all Great Grandma Ida's items. If I could put in a photo of great grandma or cousin Jane and then their things could appear under their photo, that would be great. A location sort would also be helpful. Thank you for your suggestions.
  7. Thanks so much for all the wonderful posts about what to do with black currants. I wish I had more available to try out several of the options that were mentioned. I ended up using a steamer and got a quart of juice. Now that I've learned how healthy they are, I'm considering planting some in my backyard.
  8. A friend is out of town and invited me to help myself to her black currants. There were 2 quarts. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. One thought is to freeze them to add to smoothies later on. Jelly may be a possibility, but I think I'd need to get cheese cloth for the process. Do these get added to muffins or put into pancake batter like blueberries? Thanks for any suggestions.
  9. We have sheers with a rod at the top and bottom. From the outside looking in, you can't see much. My dd has a sidelight at her house. We found some pretty paper at an art store that lets some light in, and still gives some privacy. This was very inexpensive and looks lovely.
  10. Coconut macaroons dipped in dark chocolate from Wegmans. They are crispy and chewy and the dark chocolate takes it up several more notches. Not at all needed, but they're amazing.
  11. A couple weddings that I've helped at could have used a day of wedding coordinator. One mom did the food herself, and missed seeing part of the event. I heard another mom that did the decorating and food say that she was wishing that someone knew everything that she knew. That way she could pass responsibilities on and just enjoy the wedding. The average cost for a wedding around my rural area is 16K. When I was recently looking at venues I was surprised at how quickly things add up. One venue included a planner. If I was to select a venue that didn't, I would be looking for a day of wedding coordinator.
  12. The Blue Star does not have a touchpad or computer, only knobs. It is a very basic stove. From looking at reviews, it seems like the only thing that would be going wrong is needing to replace the igniters. They are about $25 each. After needing to replace the touchpad 2x and the electrical parts when burners weren't working, plus replace the glass top, I was ready for something simple. Fortunately, I found a store that was getting out of the appliance business, so the Blue Star was at a significant discount.
  13. I also had a Maytag Gemini. Unfortunately, I was steam cleaning and damaged the control panel. It was going to be around $300 to get it fixed. The stove was 14 years old, so the repair wasn't worth it. I'd been wanting to switch to gas, so this was the time. We ended up with a 30 inch wide, Blue Star gas range with a gas convection oven We've had it for about a month and it is a pleasure to cook on. Our gas range is on an inner wall. We have no vent yet, but plan to vent going straight back to the laundry room and then doing a 90 degree turn to vent outside. I've also heard of running vent ducting through the cupboards. My dd is renting an apt that has a gas stove with no vent at all. I'm surprised that there aren't codes that would mandate at least a recirculating fan.
  14. I made my dad a batch of strawberry jam. He isn't interested in more stuff, but homemade jam is a hit.
  15. I love the gas fireplace. It was wonderful this past winter.
  16. My front door opens to a view of the island and kitchen sink. Not a good situation if there is a kitchen mess. I'd love to have a master bedroom downstairs, a mudroom, a pantry and a regular door on the front or side of the garage.
  17. Make sure the gift cards are for restaurants that have take-out, as your friend might not feel like going out. If you are going with soaps or lotions you might want to consider no fragrance, or just a slight fragrance. She might be interested in a scarf that is soft, such as a soft cotton. A CD, such as Chris Rice, Peace Like a River - the Hymns Project would be soothing if your friend likes that sort of thing.
  18. My daughters did not know Swedish before. There is formal language study twice a day and the campers are grouped according to ability. The counselors only speak the village language, unless there is an emergency. The students must speak the village language at meals and in classrooms. The campers sometimes speak English in the cabins, but it is encouraged to speak the language as much as possible. Some villages have scholarship money available.
  19. My dds attended the Swedish camp at Concordia Language Villages and had a great time. They enjoyed the cultural immersion style of learning the language and made friends there. We live several states away, so they flew to MN. I'd recommend it.
  20. I've tried Birks, Tevas, Clarks and Danskos. This winter I got a pair of Merrell Encore Ice Shoes. They are so cozy and my favorite for comfort. The shoe has a sheepskin lining, so soon I'll have to switch to one of the other options.
  21. Years ago I was sometimes told that I looked like Karen Carpenter.
  22. We got married in an art gallery at a museum. We were members and had volunteered and taken classes together there, so it was a meaningful location.
  23. I highly recommend Travelpro luggage (we have the rollaboard). They have held up through years of travel and still look great.
  24. I taught my kids their address by using the tune to Frère Jacques. My address is, my address is, 8-14, Snow Flake Lane, Portland Arizona, Portland Arizona, 12345, 12345
