  1. Unintentionally, we bought a new car when you could still negotiate a price lower than the mrsp. Within a couple of weeks, there were bidding wars.

The cat litter we use is no longer available at our local stores (in fact, there are many gaps in the pet aisle at the grocery store). We can’t run out of that item! We need to stock up on that item!

In general, we are stocking up as best we can as it looks like, in addition to inflation, we may be in for a tough COVID fall and winter.

  2. Our kid will be a freshman in music and theater. I’m not sure yet what his fall semester will look like. His high school year they did a musical (Something’s Rotten) and filmed the scenes over a period of time. Then the whole musical was available for streaming  over a period of 3 days ($18 per device).

We were able to get the Farmers to Families box this time, yay! I made sure I went earlier this time.

    • package of five face masks
    • 1 gallon milk
    • 3 lb bag of onions
    • 5 lb bag of potatoes
    • 3 lb bag of apples
    • 1 lb bologna
    • 1 lb smoky cheddar cheese
    • 16 ounces of sour cream
    • 4 lb bag of chicken patties
    •  2- 24 ounce cartons of vanilla yogurt

I saw that this great program ends on May 31st. Are there food pantries that give out boxes in your area? I know there are two places that do that in our small town.

  4. Our kid has been accepted at Brevard College (Brevard, NC). The college is small and is connected with the summer program at Brevard Music Center (somewhat comparable to Interlochen in Michigan). He'll be a Music Major (in both jazz drumming and voice) and a Theatre Minor. We're waiting now for the financial proposals.

Having our csa box helped me branch out from always needing to use recipes.

I also just remembered that storing the veg was a learning curve for me.  My first week I just put it all in the fridge as is and it got limp.  Our first carrots with greens I didn't know that I needed to cut the tops off right away etc.

Now I'm good with storage but it is something to consider.

Did you know you can use the green carrot tops to make pesto?

    Carrot Top Pesto

There are other recipes for carrot top pesto if you google.

  6. We've been in several CSAs during the last 25 years. We finally realized that we wasted too much of the CSA and were better off going to our local farmer at their farm stand or their stand at our local farmers' market on a weekly basis. That way we could still support our farmer.
