  1. MFW CtG ends with Alexander the Great. In MOH that's lesson 87. I think that would cover most of the OT history that I really want my children to hear woven in with regular ancient history.:D This is very doable for us, I hope, between now and the first of the year. MOH is a very easy read for us and I mainly wanted it to backtrack and cover ancients from a biblical standpoint.

  2. The reason it's hard to figure out where to stop in MOH is that Rome is mentioned in several places. sigh I've tried to look at both MFW and MOH's Table of Contents to line them up, but I haven't been very successful. A dear friend mentioned perhaps around lesson 91? But I think Rome is also mentioned around lesson 43?

Prayer and guesstamation is what I'll have to go on. lol Yes, I don't think guesstamation is a word!

  3. I dont' have an answer, but I was wondering why you are considering the switch? I'm doing HOD now, and considering moving to MOH for next year.

Well, *I* feel that we need more than MOH is giving us. It's a great program and I love the biblical weaving in of Bible with our history.

I am considering the move also because MFW has more years as my children get older and I can stay with one program if I choose to.

Which HOD program are you using? I have/am also considering it.

  4. At the moment though I am using MOH vol 1. My dc like this well enough & we are recovering some material this year. Why? Because last year we used SL core 6 and we all did well with it. However, I felt convicted over the lack of Biblical emphasis in our history and so we have kind of started again.:glare:

I wish that I had known about HOD's programs when my dc were young. (They are just over a year apart.) The entire program speaks to me. :) My main concern is that we haven't done not one single hands on project with MOH, will this affect us greatly if we used HOD? Do we have to do the hands on projects?

My only other concern with HOD is the science. I love the notebooking aspect, but what if I don't want to cover the books that she has for that particular year? I'd love to do HOD's RtR and CtC's science. :D

But since we are already in our year and all is going well...can someone please tell me how to "beef up" MOH? Should I search my library for the book list in the back? I didn't have much luck with that early on. My library had like 2 books that were recommended.:001_huh: We are really enjoying the Bible portion of MOH. It makes history all come together and I love that it is chronological.

It may just be that coming from SL any history we use may seem light?

I'll be happy to share what we are using this year in our school and perhaps some of you can shed some light.

    Thanks & blessings!

  5. This helps me a great deal.

It is my understanding the SL covers all view points from evolution to creation. Do they specifically have a view-point or do they leave that up to the teacher?

And another friend mentioned something about the "origin of man." ????

Any other thoughts for me? I am really leaning toward SL & if I purchase a core from them I'll be able to go their forum & ask away. :D

    Thanks!

  6. I am so torn right now. I like SL core 6/7, but it can be expensive and I'm not very good at tweaking. I would like to add more literature via living history to our study. I've also looked at BF Medieval, but it doesn't use SOTW either. Would it be confusing to use SOTW vol 2 along with BF? Should I start a different thread?

I am new here to the forum...

    Thanks!:001_smile:

  7. Hi all,

I'm new here, but have been homeschooling for a while now.

I started out our year with SL core 6, but it was little much for us and to be honest we didn't like all the readers that were chosen. Both of my children both still like to be read aloud to & I've kind of let that slide.

What my children enjoyed was actually SOTW! I had purchased a used SL core from someone and there were extras in the package one of which was the AG for SOTW vol 1. So instead of using SL's geography we started using the AG and coloring pages making a notebook.

Here's my dilemma, my kids are in the 5th/6th grade and I am wondering if they are missing out on anything by our not doing hands-on activities and adding in the suggested reading in the AG? My guys are not hands-on and do not enjoy it at all. Both of my children seem to retain what we've read and love to do history. I think they would let me read until my voice gave out! :tongue_smilie:

I'd also love to hear how you plan out your chapters/weeks with guys this age.

    Thanks!
