They've done the same to me and I didn't like it either!

MFW CtG ends with Alexander the Great. In MOH that's lesson 87. I think that would cover most of the OT history that I really want my children to hear woven in with regular ancient history.:D This is very doable for us, I hope, between now and the first of the year. MOH is a very easy read for us and I mainly wanted it to backtrack and cover ancients from a biblical standpoint.

The reason it's hard to figure out where to stop in MOH is that Rome is mentioned in several places. sigh I've tried to look at both MFW and MOH's Table of Contents to line them up, but I haven't been very successful. A dear friend mentioned perhaps around lesson 91? But I think Rome is also mentioned around lesson 43?
Prayer and guesstamation is what I'll have to go on. lol Yes, I don't think guesstamation is a word!

We're planning the same switch for the same reasons. Hope you get an answer!
Are you guys switching to MFW as well?
-
I dont' have an answer, but I was wondering why you are considering the switch? I'm doing HOD now, and considering moving to MOH for next year.
Well, *I* feel that we need more than MOH is giving us. It's a great program and I love the biblical weaving in of Bible with our history.
I am considering the move also because MFW has more years as my children get older and I can stay with one program if I choose to.
Which HOD program are you using? I have/am also considering it.

I am really debating either HOD or MFW RtR. Currently, I am using MOH vol 1. If I decide to go with MFW RtR where should I stop our MOH? I am having a hard time figuring it out. Anyone else done this?
Thanks!
-
Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. My dc are middle school age. I will look into what each of you suggested.
-
At the moment though I am using MOH vol 1. My dc like this well enough & we are recovering some material this year. Why? Because last year we used SL core 6 and we all did well with it. However, I felt convicted over the lack of Biblical emphasis in our history and so we have kind of started again.:glare:
I wish that I had known about HOD's programs when my dc were young. (They are just over a year apart.) The entire program speaks to me. :) My main concern is that we haven't done not one single hands on project with MOH, will this affect us greatly if we used HOD? Do we have to do the hands on projects?
My only other concern with HOD is the science. I love the notebooking aspect, but what if I don't want to cover the books that she has for that particular year? I'd love to do HOD's RtR and CtC's science. :D
But since we are already in our year and all is going well...can someone please tell me how to "beef up" MOH? Should I search my library for the book list in the back? I didn't have much luck with that early on. My library had like 2 books that were recommended.:001_huh: We are really enjoying the Bible portion of MOH. It makes history all come together and I love that it is chronological.
It may just be that coming from SL any history we use may seem light?
I'll be happy to share what we are using this year in our school and perhaps some of you can shed some light.
Thanks & blessings!

Thanks! I'll check it out.

I have done searches and haven't come up with a chart. Is there one available somewhere? I'd really love to combine SOTW this year with MOH. :001_unsure:
Please help!

It is so helpful to see what exactly is in SL. I love that we can have discussions and teach our children.
Again, thank you!
-
This helps me a great deal.
It is my understanding the SL covers all view points from evolution to creation. Do they specifically have a view-point or do they leave that up to the teacher?
And another friend mentioned something about the "origin of man." ????
Any other thoughts for me? I am really leaning toward SL & if I purchase a core from them I'll be able to go their forum & ask away. :D
Thanks!

I am seriously considering SL 6 for science next year. There seems to be mixed reviews of SL Science.
Tell me about it - the good - the bad - & - the ugly.

Are these easy to use? I've never even heard of Mosaic? I can't get the updates feature to work for Biblioplan. Are the samples of lit and resource list a complete listing of books needed? Tell me more!

I am so torn right now. I like SL core 6/7, but it can be expensive and I'm not very good at tweaking. I would like to add more literature via living history to our study. I've also looked at BF Medieval, but it doesn't use SOTW either. Would it be confusing to use SOTW vol 2 along with BF? Should I start a different thread?
I am new here to the forum...
Thanks!:001_smile:

HIstory Odyssey level 1 uses SOTW as a spine. THere is also a free program (Mosaic?) that uses it.
I thought that History Odyssey level 1 was only for up to 4th grade?
-
I guess I should add that my children are 5th/6th grade levels. Will SL core 2 books be enough?
-
We are happily using SOTW 2. However, I kind of feel like my guys needs more than just the coloring pages and mapping. They aren't hands on and we don't do the activities. What history curriculum's use SOTW? I know SL does, but it kind of overwhelms me...
:001_huh:

What does KHE stand for? And can you all give me an idea of what your child's outline looks like?
:001_smile:
-
Thank you both.
What timeline do you use? We've tried making one, but I think I would do better purchasing a book and then adding our figures.

Hi all,
I'm new here, but have been homeschooling for a while now.
I started out our year with SL core 6, but it was little much for us and to be honest we didn't like all the readers that were chosen. Both of my children both still like to be read aloud to & I've kind of let that slide.
What my children enjoyed was actually SOTW! I had purchased a used SL core from someone and there were extras in the package one of which was the AG for SOTW vol 1. So instead of using SL's geography we started using the AG and coloring pages making a notebook.
Here's my dilemma, my kids are in the 5th/6th grade and I am wondering if they are missing out on anything by our not doing hands-on activities and adding in the suggested reading in the AG? My guys are not hands-on and do not enjoy it at all. Both of my children seem to retain what we've read and love to do history. I think they would let me read until my voice gave out! :tongue_smilie:
I'd also love to hear how you plan out your chapters/weeks with guys this age.
Thanks!
Help deciding where to stop MOH 1 and start MFW RtR.

So, you are going to wait and start MFW in the fall? I am excited to get back to MFW. I need more history than what we are getting right now.
I see that you are in NC as well. :D
