  1. Write up a bunch of pirate nametags and each child gets one as the party begins. ie:For a boy named Billy - Blackbeard Billy. Birthday boy is Captain "child's name".

Everyone must talk like a pirate, including parents. Even better if parents are cabin boys for the day, doing the Captain's bidding :)

Treasure hunt for sure... all together or in teams. X marks the final spot but have the map lead to a few places where extra clues are found before finding the X. Sandboxes are fun for hiding treasure.

Peg-leg relay race. Really just hopping to a certain point and back again. With a parrot on their shoulder? Even better!

Depending on how messy you want to get... two sailing ships cut out of cardboard, one for each team to hide behind. Water balloon "Cannon ball" fight.

  2. I didn't know about having the info removed. I only knew about the site because my dh showed it to me. His info is totally screwy. No wonder we get weird promotional junk mail. Currently his info lists him under his mother's name (female version of his name but clearly a female name), and wrong ethnicity.

Oh, and Dh's brother's house 1/4 mile away also comes up under MiL's name. She's a strong marketing draw apparently!

  3. The odds are well in your favour.

I've had a kidney infection misdiagnosed as viral infection and ended up in hospital for almost a week. Weird thing was I did not have any back pain at all, just extremely high fever, chills, couldn't keep even a sip of water down for days. That's the main reason I ended up in hospital, the dehydration. You're drinking a lot of water and already on meds so you'll be fine!

    Hope you feel better soon.

  4. Fed the dog and cats their evening meal by preparing the wet food as usual and carrying it all to the back porch where the animals were waiting. Set down the dog's food, gave him the signal to eat, filled his water bowl, filled the cats' water bowl, filled their dry food dish, stepped over to the dryer to check the timer, then walked back into the kitchen... with the cats' wet food bowl still in my hand. No wonder the poor cats had been extra frantic in their meowing tonight. :tongue_smilie:

  5. Not read the previous posts so I may be repeating someone else here. ETA: Okay, now that I have read through the previous posts I see I am in the minority. :tongue_smilie:

I have the KP metal options set and I love them. I also have some of the KP metal DPN's and smaller sized fixed cable circulars. I have one Addi smaller size fixed circular and though I like it, I much prefer the sharper point on the KP needles.

  6. I did some about a year ago using a couple of recipes from this site. http://forum.sausagemaking.org/

I forget exactly which ones I used, (I took notes and promptly lost them).... a hot italian (good), a rosemary one (too salty), and an English (bit bland). I learned the reason English sausages are so different from American sausage is because it's ground so much finer, almost to a paste. That was a huge deal for me because I just can't afford the mail-order English sausages at $8 per lb, plus $50 shipping!

I haven't tried using rusk or any skins yet.

I recently bought more pork to have another go once I find my scribbled notes from the first time.

  7. We took swimming lessons at school. Our little infant and junior school had it's own old bus which was a very special thing at the time. We'd bus the mile or so to the comprehensive school's swimming pool to take our weekly lessons. There would be so many weeks of lessons and then awards were given in the form of a small coloured patch of fabric. I forget the exact colouring but each colour symbolized the distance swum. (Is swum a word?) ie: Red for one width of the small pool, yellow for one length, etc. The fabric patches were usually sewn directly onto the bathing suit and we were all very proud of them :)

  8. I never knew that about Siamese cats. I wonder what the cause is for that.

Aside from the fact that she's noisy, (and aren't siamese cats generally noisy?) I don't think Aoife has any siamese. She's a short hair tabby we adopted along with her fluffier sister from a rescue home. She's talkative, full of personality and always holds her tail straight in the air... so perhaps she's more exotic than I thought!

Our dog has a kink in his tail. It's was and healed crooked before we adopted him aged 4mnths. He still shows signs that it bothers him as well, hence my concern about Aoife's tail injury.

Aoife's kink is barely noticeable today. A bit of fur pulled out and a very small bump is all I can feel, if she actually lets me touch her tail at all.

We're thinking now that her tail was not caught properly in the door jamb, but just the hair... and she leapt away, pulling the hair out. Ouch!

She's very snuggly today though so I'm taking full advantage of that! :001_smile:

  9. Update: The cat has been chasing a fly around the house so I know she's mostly okay. She's also wiggling the end of her tail as usual.

Anything I should keep a look out for, just in case?

  10. Hi Soph,

I wasn't sure if you still check this board...

My son just shut the cat's tail in the door. I've had a quick check and there's a small patch of fur missing, no blood. I can feel a kink in the tail about 3 inches from the tip end. Is there anything I can do?
