  1. Mostly I change the string of lights I leave on the mantle. Christmas is clear/white with stockings. January is snowmen, snow flakes and blue lights. I switch through the year and it is pretty much our only decoration so it's just a few things and not clutterish. You could do snowy things through March and then do flowery/greenery things through September then back to fall.

  2. I have a cousin who had her kitchen walls painted a very light, clear green color--darker than pastel but not dark.

She has a stainless steel stove and white other appliances, and wooden cabinets, so the green does not really dominate in the kitchen area of the room, but more in the breakfast nook area where it's more visible.

It's an amazingly good choice for mild seasonality.

She puts out *a* Christmas dishtowel and two Christmas potholders and the room is Christmasy instantly.

The green is perfect for Easter and is light enough that red heart linens would not look Christmasy with it.

It has a lot of lighter natural browns and whites in the cabinetry, appliances, and trim, so harvest colors look fine with it, and tip the green into a late summer type hue.

It's really quite remarkable. I've always had a light blue kitchen but I'm seriously considering switching to her regime.

And the name of that paint color is?

  3. How to care for my brother's blue tongue lizards, who have just taken up residence at my place.

Read the first line and wondered why your brother's tongue was blue. I wish my brain didn't jump in and fill things in so quickly :) .

I'm reading "Sleep and Why We Need It". I also read all kinds of depression and anxiety research and brain stufies. I'm endlessly researching the gut biome and I'm interested in light and color.

  4. My jobs today are few.

    * generally pick up from festivities

    * take the dog on mini walks because it's too cold for a couple long ones

    * deliver kids' friends back to their homes

    * spend some time with dh

    * cook pork and cabbage for good luck

    * fit in some yoga

  5. The 19 yo has a cold so let's hope she keeps it to herself. I hope you both feel better.

    Today:

    Sunday School and church

    Frying chicken

Pick up 14 uo's friend who lives 20 miles away -sigh

Go to party with our local theater friends (10 yo and I )

All kids have plans and dh will stay home as he prefers

  6. I read it. I read a lot of stuff.

I also live with two extremes. I was in my son's room ealier and found the box of breakfast bars I put in there 10 days ago. He has eaten 2 bars.

    Our actions affect our outcomes.

True but why we make those choices are the difference. I've come to believe really we are just a bag of chemicals mostly doing what the chemicals tell us.

  7. I'm being perfectly honest. I'm a rebellious person so being told I can't do something pretty much guarantees I will. I do know this and have found friendly wagers where I'm trying to win and show someone "I can too do that" help me. Read Gretchen Rubin's habits book to see what might be useful. Keep what seems relevant and pitch the rest. Good luck.

  8. We have people over extremely infrequently. Maybe some family 1-2x a year. Maybe kids 3x a year. I love people and am extroverted but my husband is beyond introverted. Anyone here upsets and unnerve him. Yes that's not normal but it is the situation. I often meet friends for coffee or wine or somewhere else.

  9. Your kids don’t have kids yet. Ask any person who doesn’t have kids how to raise them and they’re full of “good ideas.†I don’t think saying to a crying 9 year old, “Just wait until you have to scrub the toilet†is good parenting.

Just throwing it out there. If it's not for you scroll on.

  10. I'm just going to add that removing the ability to use doesn't remove the addiction. I realize you know this but until he sees a problem this is a band aid. You have all my sympathy. I would do this too. I just felt that needed to be said.

  11. My dd, a 25 yo teacher, has no Internet or TV. She uses her phone for "emergencies" and does her work at school or where there is free wi-fi, which us nearly everywhere, so it can be done. Not she is busy and out of her apartment 12-15 hours/day. If you are at hone a great deal it would be more inconvenient.

  12. So, because I never do anything on a normal schedule I'm jumping in on a day that is neither a z Monday or the New Year. My health habits have fallen apart over the last holiday, event laden six weeks. I need to sleep, water, exercise, get sun and up the F&V. Now to remember those things. Real life is so stinking real ;)
