I am using this..... http://simplycharlottemason.com/planning/scmguide/literature/ This site suggests reading a chapter a day. The list of books for the early years is good too.
-
My DD is a rising first grader (she did K in ps) She can't even read those much less spell them.
-
I am using this to help me schedule, but it is just broken down by chapters so you still have to figure out how to squeeze it into 36 weeks.
-
I haven't used it yet, but I am going to using the free notebooking journal on the apologia site.

I just got this yesterday and after looking at it, it looks pretty simple. It doesn't really look like a 1st grade program it looks more like Kindergarten. DH doesn't want me to switch now that we have it but I am just not sure it'll be enough. I like the look of Soaring with spelling and vocabulary, but my dd isn't reading fluently yet (close but not quite there). Could she do this program before she is reading fluently?
Should I just go with SWO A or try the other?

Were homeschooling instead of sending them back to PS. :D

Very neat, I think this will work better than my poster and cards idea. The girls love it but this is much smaller and easier to put away when company is over.
-
Can you link me to them? or is it in store only?

Our's never charges, it is for outreach, to bring more families into the church. They do a penny drive to raise money for a certain family or missionary. Church covers all costs for the actual event with volunteers and donations.

I fall into the category of letting them learn at their own desire. ie....... My DD who is almost 4 is begging to learn to read so I will start OPGTTR next month. I plan on doing it at her pace though so if she doesn't want to do it that day or begins to get frustrated then we can skip that day or do one lesson for X number of days in a row.
On the same token, if she wasn't ready for academics until the age of 6 then that would be okay too. If at 6 she was still pretty wiggly and having trouble sitting through lessons then we would do a gentle approach and slowly introduce her to having a school time.
I really think we need to get over what everyone says and just do what our child is ready for. It isn't about early or late it is about readiness.

I am on hold with Amazon CS trying to find out if and when my cart will be restored. He said they are trying to get everyone's carts restored completely and I should be receiving an email about it soon. He put me on hold to check for updates. Here's hoping!!!:001_unsure::toetap05:

I am using http://www.mardel.com/double-mobile-organizing-tower.aspx Anything that won't fit in the drawer will get a note on where to find it. The drawers will get numbers and they will get a chart to put their numbers on.

Great Ideas!!!!!

I was in the same boat as you, I couldn't decided between Saxon or Horizons. I actually used Saxon when I was in middle school and High school and I loved it. So I thought it was what we would use all through schooling my kids, until I saw the lower levels and compared them with horizons. I really think for my girls that Horizons is the way to go through these younger years. It is more colorful and seems to have the right combination of review and new topics throughout. I "plan" on using Horizons through 6 and the moving over Saxon. Of course after finishing Horizons I will do the placement test in Saxon to decided exactly where to place them.
