  1. DS now has all the applications in and is turning toward writing honors college applications after the holiday tomorrow. He's pretty burned out at this point. Online applications make it so easy for schools to add more and more compared to ye olde paper applications. Every time it seems one is getting close to the end, there's another box, another signature, another residential college sorting, another PDF....

  2. Just an update to say he's in.

I'll be following up with the office about the problems with this form. In the meantime, I wanted to add what I did in case someone comes looking in the future, like I did.

DS had DE courses and the CC he attends sends transcripts via Parchment. While I can't send my transcripts via Parchment, it turns out Parchment allows you to attach a file when you send a transcript. I combined the somewhat unreadable PDF form, my transcript, and my counselor letter into one document and attached it that way. I was planning to also send the school profile and the course descriptions, but it turns out Parchment's max file size and page limit of 5 pages (2 of which were the UAH form) limited me. I also didn't print out to sign the form and re-scan it, I just typed my name in the signature area and figured if they needed the signature I would send it after this.

First acceptance! So happy! And relieved I didn’t do anything totally idiotic. 🙂

YES! Congratulations and let the waves of relief wash over you. Just knowing your kid has a place to go they're happy with takes off so much pressure.

ETA: DS removed some of the schools whose essays he hadn't finished yet once his first acceptance was in. He took out the ones he was less interested in than the accepted one and kept the rest. It cut his workload down by about a quarter.

DD received an affirmative response from her top choice, cr**shoot admissions school yesterday. 🎉🎉🎉 (I like using  @Roadrunner's label of "highly rejective"!)

I have a question for you all, though. She applied early decision, so now does she have to actively withdraw herself from consideration at other schools or can we just let those applications come to their natural conclusion?

    Major congrats!!!

Yes, you have to actively withdraw from all others. If there's no way to do it in a portal, send an email. Don't do it verbally over the phone; have a record.

  6. DS has all portals except UCSD.

Speaking of UCSD, I have a tab open that I wanted to share here. Please forgive me if this is the thread I originally got it from; I've been doing a lot of reading! So it turns out you can change your UCSD college rankings until 1/31 and there's this chart if anyone is interested in requirements and which colleges take AP credit to clear them

  7. Thank you.

Right now I have a transcript, course descriptions, a school profile, and a counselor's letter. Too much to send along with the template?

I will weight DS's APs and DE courses.

I did send a general email to the admissions department a few days ago but haven't hear back. I'll call the regional rep. Can you PM me the email address of the Director of Enrollment Management, if you feel comfortable?

NVM: I found it on the web site. Not sure why I thought it wouldn't be there.

  8. I hope I'm allowed to bump this thread a year later, as I'm running into the same problem for DS and this PDF. It feels unfair to me that the scale they're asking me to use has no weighting, unless I explicitly ignore the instructions and add weighting, which the cells in the PDF do let me do, ie they're not locked against it. If a regular school submits a transcript, apparently they just take the weighted GPA off of it.  Did anyone get away with not filling our this form and just having their transcripts accepted?

  9. DS got his first acceptance yesterday! The deadline is Jan 15, but notifications are rolling and the "accepted by" deadline for the honors invitation is Dec 1, so he at least made that. We'll see if an honors invite is forthcoming over the next few weeks. It's a safety for him, and it's on the other side of the country, but we're relieved. Very relieved.

His Common App essay continues to be the bane of my existence. He's a good academic writer, but writing about himself has been really hard. And when he does, it's an explanation of how things he does work, or how he found out about them, etc. Basically descriptive, but not with feelings or impact. He's trying again, right now, after we discussed a concept that's woven through a few areas of his life. He's going to try and write about the concept now.

Not required until acceptance offer. All the UCs that DS17 applied to last year took the AP scores at face value.  He was considered as a homeschool applicant.

CSU is the one that required the AP score report to be submitted at application.

Whew, that's good to hear. Let's hope he gets in so the fees we just paid won't be for nothing!

  11. Now I am panicking...

DS submitted the UC app a couple of weeks ago and didn't send AP scores because he thought they were just for placement if you are accepted and decide to go. I thought they had to be submitted by Nov 30 if they are being used to cover a-g requirements. He sent them today but we're super stressed about it now. I can't find the answer anywhere either. Googling just brings up the placement info.
