  1. Take a look at math u see to see what you think. The fact that she is using her fingers makes me wonder if a program with manipulatives built in wouldn't help her gain understanding and increase fluency. Keep in mind that it takes some kids longer than others to memorize their tables - it's ok as long as you keep plugging at it. I've heard a lot of people say that math u see helped their kids really understand math and that they don't use the manipulatives forever, I don't think there's a risk of becoming dependent on the manipulatives.

    :iagree:

  2. I personally do not like Saxon, I do love spiral approach curricula though. I would recommend both Horizons and Singapore. (I actully do them together) Singapore is great for teaching concrete, and excellent for mental math. Horizons is a GREAT spiral curriculum (but you NEED the teachers manuals)

Other great math programs for you to check out would be Math U See, Mammoth Math, Key To series, Life Of Fred (I will be starting Life of Fred with my oldest daughter this summer, fractions, and decimals & percents)

  3. I do SOTW for elementary (1-4) then MOH for middle (5-8) I love them both!!!!!

They both have the same amount of book hunting (do as much or as little as you choose) I find the G. Foster books are great as a supplement (doesnt have EVERYTHING but when you get the compatible time frames)

Timelines work well with both also!

  4. The teachers guide is not needed at that level if you are comfortable. I use BJU math with my oldest and I just got my first teachers edition this year (6th grade) I would recommend the workbooks, both the spring into action and the stretch your mind. The stretch your mind says its for advanced students, my daughter is good in math, though I certainly would not call her advanced and I found it to be very beneficial for her to do those! You do not need tests. I use the chapter reviews at the end of each chapter. It also has a 10 question cumulative review. I just figure that if she didnt know something and needed review that would show me. The tests are very similar.

If you have anyother questions please let me know! For my oldest I have found nothing better than BJU math!!!! :)

  5. What are the signs and syptoms of this? I have read everything I can find on the subject, but I want first hand from parents with ADHD kids.

Does this run in families? My husband had this as a child (an still does:glare:)

I am wondering about 1 of my kids in particular

  6. Slow is your friend. Fun is also your friend. Early does not equal better...keep telling yourself. My last son received the benefit of his brother's tears. I SO should have waited with the first one and didn't and you know what I got....tears and little love for reading. I made the struggle about things it wasn't -- he simply needed a bit more time and I blew it! For The Ax Man, I waited and he LOVES books, even though he wasn't reading fluidly until 7 and some change. He has grown so much in the second half of second grade I can hardly recognize the same little boy who had to work so hard can only work a little now and offers to read aloud. It comes...you really have to give them the tools in fun and when their ready, they'll apply them. You'll see......totally different from my 2 girls, btw....TOTALLY!

Thanks! That is great advice! Thank you !!!

  7. Get the book a Chickens guide to talking turkey with your kids about sex. ITs by Kathy Flores Bell.

It teaches parents how to have "kitchen table" talks with your kids in a non intimidation/gross them out sort of way.

My daughter will be 12 April 1 and THANK YOU LORD she hasnt started yet. I have memorized that book! Its awesome!

Im going to PM you now.... sorry lol
