  1. Lady in Florida,

I think you are trying to say:

    Be weather and property aware.

    Be Prepared

Try not to panic, as anxiety doesn't do all that much good.

    Right?

Sounds about right to me.   These same principles apply to tornado areas.  Except we only have a few minutes to hours to prepare, so everything is just crunched down much more tightly.  Sometimes having days and days to worry about something is super nerve-wracking.

That being said, I hope all people that needed to evacuate are safe.  We are wishing all Floridians the best.

  2. I don't understand you people. My iron is used everyday. You need a hard surface, and make the iron hotter. Polyester will melt though, lower the heat. I have a black and decker classic that looks retro. It's simple and the best iron I've ever used. I would link, but the ones I see have more features than mine. It never leaks!!!

    Everyday?  What do you iron?

  3. Yes! That is quite the mix!

If these are all biological family members I'm thinking the parents' genotypes must be AO+- and BO+-. You could get every possible phenotype from those.

    Yes!

    All Biological!

    Pretty cool, eh?

It definitely types us as parents as AO+- and BO+- since we have it all.

  4. Nebulizer worked wonders here. Rescue inhalers are hard for children to use properly sometimes.

Also, we were given steroids also when we had an emergency, but once when my son was not better, I called the pediatrician. She felt that the ER doctor did not prescribe the right amount for his weight, and decided to increase the dose. (This worked wonders)

So, definitely a call or visit to the pediatrician's office.

  5. Our DD backed into put car. She managed to hit 3 different pieces of our car with the paint damaged on all three. Cost was $2200.

So, I think it matters how many "parts" of the car were damaged. And, also, if the paint was damaged.

Hopefully, it was just one part and the paint is fine. I mean how much damage can those little battery powered cars do? Hopefully, not too much, right?

  6. Around here, D.C. is a daily commute,

I find Air & Space unbearable from May-August. The worst was when a boy scout jamboree was in DC. I'm scarred for life over that one. I try to stack our DC trips for the year towards the beginning of the school year before anyone can get organized enough to plan a trip.

I'm jealous!  I would love to zip over to DC at my leisure during an un-busy time. We have to enjoy the museums only very occasionally, and during busy times.  LOL

  7. I guess our school district is different.  They do four days of outdoor week for the eighth graders.  Different places each day.  They go to a lake, museums, outdoor games and tie dye t-shirts....etc....

    It's free.

I haven't heard of anybody ever complaining about not taking an expensive trip to DC or other place.  My kids have been happy with this.

  8. Happi,

I am decidedly UN - anxious person, and I was filled with anxiety last night.

We had all discussed safety and not looking at the sun.  But, we hadn't discussed about clouds.  Honestly, we weren't expecting the amount of clouds there were, it was supposed to be mostly sunny.  And then, we had mostly cloudy with tiny windows of opportunity to see the eclipse.  We had not discussed what to do in this situation.

People were looking up at the clouds without eclipse glasses, because well, you know, you could see absolutely nothing with the glasses on. And, you couldn't really even have an idea of where the sun was.  Then, the sun would peek out, and people would hurriedly put the glasses on to see.  At one point, cloud cover was somewhat covering the sun, but not completely, and I looked over and saw my 14 year old without glasses on.

Then, later I was reading an article in the car on the way home that was so terrifying.  I felt ill, and oh so awful, and filled with dread that something awful had happened. I am NOT an anxious person. I was filled with dread because I knew we hadn't talked about what to do and I wasn't certain that looking up at the clouds for prolonged periods might hurt us. I felt like if something bad actually had happened people would judge me or say how stupid we all might be.

I printed out the Amsler grid and checked everyone last night and again this morning when people woke up.  Everything seems fine so far, which makes me feel a bit better.  But, I am still going to test them every day this week.  Just to make make sure they are okay.

But, Happi, I know how you feel.  Hugs for both of us.  I know that logically, most likely, everything should be okay, but I won't be completely satisfied until a few days from now.

  9. I agree with others. I've had two mousers. They will either eat the mouse or leave it as a present.

We used to have a problem with mice outside, but no more.

I also have had cats that would watch the mice. Never made a move to catch them.

I'm not certain how to tell which cats would be good mousers though. It's just luck of the draw for me.
