Inexplicably, there is a model train running above the dairy section and a rooster that occasionally crows. I don’t know why or if it’s every store.

At my store the rooster crows every hour on the hour.   We also have the model train running above the dairy section.  I don't know why it's there but it is fun and I have noticed little kids absolutely thrilled with it when they spot it.

  2. Wegmans is awesome!   As Knitgirl said, they treat their staff very well.   The "to-go" and prepared foods are super expensive.  However, the rest of the store is very well priced.   For a splurge, get their chocolate chip cookies (15.00 for 15 cookies and worth every penny), they are the best cookies I have ever had.   Their store brand items are as good, if not better, than name brand items.    Their produce is fresh and typically in good shape.  They have a wide variety as well.   Wegmans has spoiled me for other stores and I do most of my weekly shopping there now.   Congratulations on getting one near you!

  3. Stomach sleeper.  Several pillows under my head and one on each side of me.  TV MUST be on and on shows that I like.  TV stays on all night long.  If, for some reason, it stops or a show comes on that I don't like, I will immediately wake up.   My dog sleeps with me, and he needs the TV on too now!

I am so sorry you and your family are going through this. Yes, it is much better to err on the side of too soon than too late. From what you've described, it is time. Again, I am so incredibly sorry! This is such a hard thing to do but it will be the last best act of love you can do for her.

I just read this after I posted.  I agree with you fully on all points.

  5. Many many hugs.  I am very sorry.    Our sweet furry family members simply do not live long enough.   I have had to make the choice to let 2 of ours go and I always say that it is the last loving and kind thing I can do for them.  It hurt like hell, but I have never regretted my decisions (made, of course, with the guidance of our vet).

Just wanted to say, for anyone else who is dealing with complicated family issues or failing marriages or other things that make holidays hard—I see you today and hold you in my thoughts.

I am missing the life and family holidays I thought I would have as well.

Thank you for these kind words and affirmation that holidays can be hard and even harder when they are not at all like we hoped/dreamed/thought they would be.  I dread holidays now, just bloody dread them.    Please know that I see you and am also holding you in my thoughts as well.

It's bad enough that last year's chocolate bunnies are still in the fridge, lol.

Same for a few of my family members, ahem.

It is a huge sacrifice, but you both may feel free to send me your left over chocolate bunnies.😄    Such a thing as "left over chocolate" does not exist in my house!

I am afraid the sigh means she’s taking time to reload. I guess she couldn’t think of anything fast enough so threw out there your aunt is dying, bye and hung up the phone. 🙄

First, you did a great job and I am really proud you.    Second,  yeah, I agree, she is reloading and will be developing a new plan.  I think that is exactly why she threw that out about your aunt (i was thinking that as I was reading it and am glad you picked up on it too).

I've seen houses described as "tiny houses" that are bigger than my house.  We live in 750 square feet, an old summer bungalow from when my area with a ton of lakes used to be the summer homes for people from the cities.    It works mostly.   We've had 5 of us here when older dd was home, now we have 4.  Each of the teenagers has their own bedrooms - 9 x 9 1/2 and 9 x 12, while our bedroom is about 6 x 8 (literally just fits our bed with a small space to walk to the door).   Biggest issue is no storage since our garage is not chipmunk tight and we have to basement and only two small closets.   But we are in a quiet community, on a river, yet still very close to jobs.   Rare to find around here.   It's worked for 20 years and the kids are happy.  We have no plans to change anything since it's perfect to age in place.  Probably biggest problem is only one bathroom, but we're all on fairly different schedules so it tends to not be an issue too often.

Gosh, I think this sounds really nice.   I do not like big homes and very much prefer old small homes with character and history.  Being in a quiet community, on a river, and close to jobs on top of that would be heaven.  You are very lucky.

Listen to Rosie. She is very wise.

Go on with your plan. She doesn't get to dictate to you which is what she wants. Continue on. If she doesn't accept your phone calls because it isn't in her plan, that is on her. I would actually make a point of NOT calling on Sunday evenings. She doesn't get to steam roll you.

I like all of this answer and think this is the way to go.   I also agree that Rosie is very wise.   I always learn something from her.

This made me cry.  While I am not the OP, I want you to know that I desperately needed to hear this and didn't realize it until I read it.   Thank you so very much for sharing it.

I didn't have a car until I was almost 30. I just took the bus/subway/public transport and walked or rode my bike. DH had one though.

I don't *need* a car where we currently live, lots of people get around by bike (all year, even here in Maine). We are actively trying to decide when to go down to one car, probably when we go electric. Right now both cars are relatively new and paid off so we're not sure it makes sense.

I did not think Maine could get any better, but here we are.   Oh for a miracle to happen so I could move there.

  14. What a smart idea.    I hope you have a lovely break and meaningful Lenten season.   I would love to hear your thoughts on the digital break after you return.

    Edit: apparently, I can't spell
